There really needed to be more news coverage of Fats Domino's passing in the national news (USA Today, NY Times, etc) - at least on their websites. There were a few blurbs that reported his (unconfirmed) passing, but no tribute or feature articles that I noticed. Maybe they were just there for one day or so, and I missed them. But still...should have been headline news.

PW: I've been championing Dave for decades. He's been hosting a show here for 30 years and doesn't get paid. All donations go towards the station's operating expenses. Dave's radio antics would be unappreciated anywhere else on the dial. At WFMU, he's free-range. I point to him as an example of the BEST that WFMU has to offer.

Al Kooper's Blood, Sweat & Tears covered "Just One Smile," and Al claimed he came to the song via Pitney's version. Al witnessed Pitney's first audition as a songwriter for Aaron Schroeder, and he urged Schroeder to sign Pitney to sing demos. (Kooper: "I said he’s a fucking STAR.") Schroeder launched Musicor Records to issue Pitney's early recordings. Pitney became a fucking STAR.

He always had Fats Domino records playing when we visited as Kids. Fats was his favorite and this is good to hear.
