Postwar atmospherica. High bop modernism and Afro-Latin sounds, twilight exotica and soundtrack moods, soul stompers and weepers, hypnotic R&B and blues, mystical '60s pop, lonely country, lonelier rock 'n' roll, instrumental weirdness, electronic creaking. Bringing worlds beyond into the worlds at hand.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm coelacanth∅:

salut Danny et bleuets
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07pm coelacanth∅:

...dropouts? are you sure it's not my computer?
Avatar 10:08pm still b/p:

Man, the list of people Caiola did studio work with is amazing.

The Funny Little Dropouts never got the breaks the Four Freshmen did.
Avatar 10:08pm northguineahills:

What you, think I'm funny!!! (I graduated HS thank you very much!) ;)
Avatar 10:10pm Little Danny:

I think I'm back! Said funny little dropouts were like these millisecond-long silences due to eternal turntable cable issues
Avatar 10:11pm Little Danny:

And hello, hello, hello and hello!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11pm coelacanth∅:

stillb/p you know that shit was fixed!
Avatar 10:13pm Flash Strap:

sounding good over here LD
Avatar 10:13pm Little Danny:

Okay, good! Thanks!
Avatar 10:14pm Little Danny:

@still b/p re:Caiola. He must done thousands of sessions in addition to his dozens of records as a leader
Avatar 10:19pm Flash Strap:

this is good Mendes
Avatar 10:31pm still b/p:

So I've heard Caiola's work many thousands of times without knowing it. And on many familiar songs I still hear on stations that play period-popular, American songbook and MOR tunes. Looking at the list, "Oh, I know that, I love that, I know those and these..."

Yessir, Alex! Thanks so much for donating! Nice to match a name to an avatar, also

How dud I miss that Portishead, it sounded like the Silver Apples, and wait, what's this, you clever man you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50pm coelacanth∅:

heh, when the portishead song started i thought it was silver apples.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51pm coelacanth∅:

hahaha! funny little dropouts

Avatar 10:55pm Little Danny:

Haha, I love y'all! Felt like the Portishead-Silver Apples segue was a bit obvious, glad it was appreciated

great (obviously - it's the staple singers) "this train".
-reminds me of peter paul & mary, who i recently was making a playlist of, because i love some of their music so much but always have to skip some songs. i don't know how i never knew this before, but in this process i discovered what absolute assholes they were - in regard to claiming songwriting credit for songs they did not pen. they easily rival led zeppelin in the unscrupulous department.
Avatar 11:21pm Little Danny:

Thank you, Geez!

Avatar 11:22pm Little Danny:

Interesting re: PP&M. I believe it. Did they do a version of "This Train"? It got covered by a number of gospel artists
  11:26pm zonk ludlow:

Hiya Danny, enjoying the show in the land of Oz. Great to hear something from Portishead's much under rated third studio album. Haven't played it for years, but will be later on. Now Chet & Bill have just added to my afternoon, followed by something I've never heard,
(hooked on that intro!).
Avatar 11:28pm Little Danny:

Greetings Zonk, and thanks! Totally agreed that Third is underrated. I love it so much

Avatar 11:38pm Little Danny:

Yes it is, Jason!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43pm coelacanth∅:

Danny yes PP&M did a nice "this train", though i'm sure i wouldn't like it as much if that group's 1st & 3rd albums weren't what weened me off shitty children's records that always bored me. also, our family used to sit in the living room and all sing along to those records, beginning to end. (along with a few others)
nostalgia's a powerful thing.
(though becoming aware of this thievery is also a powerful influence, for me.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47pm coelacanth∅:

(haha! i just looked and sure enough "this train" was written by the peter & the paul of said group...if one were ignorant enough to believe the album credits)
Avatar 11:49pm geezerette:

Coel, which train song was Elizabeth Cotton's?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm coelacanth∅:

that's another gem, g! fortunately pp&m did credit her on their album for that one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm coelacanth∅:

oh, sorry! ..."freight train".
Avatar 11:54pm geezerette:

Thanks coel! Couldn't remember, & it's a great one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56pm JtotheK:
