Good morning all. Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

How to Read Nancy is the best book on comics ever. Looking forward to hearing the broadcast! And of course, Lloyd Price is such a great storyteller, musician - and a great cook, too. Thanks for hosting him on your program.

Never heard a tighter or better song than this Dr. Feelgood.
  11:50am
Stevel:

M. Shelley: That's a pretty astute audio assessment. Create a sound that others can't screw up. It's like they played the pubs, or something!
  11:52am
Finer Whiner:

Man, put this Jerry Reed song on a mix tape about 35 years ago...haven't really heard it since.
Avatar 11:52am
Listener Baby:

Baby.. Pick against strings cause a lot more high freq, and overtones than a fingernail brushing against the strings. What you just said about low mids, is no accident. Think Linday B's tone as another example. Same animal. Just physics.
Avatar 11:55am
Michael Shelley:

but also the way the snare & cymbals sound - I think it's adding low mids to the whole mix
Avatar 11:56am
Listener Baby:

I would agree. Whatever those crazy dudes did that day, sounds amazing. PS. More DFG> xoxo

Finer Whiner:

DAMN another of my decades-old mix-tape staples!
Avatar 11:58am

ha, i remember this Crack song by Carmaig. yay.
Avatar 12:04pm
Michael Shelley:

BABY - you must have had this experience - you walk into a club, put a 57 on a snare and it sounds super LOW MIX - and you look over and the eq in the mains has a huge boost down there
Avatar 12:10pm
Listener Baby:

I will just say this about that. For what I'm doing these days, as unimportant as it is, A 57 on the snare is verboten! They work, but that's about it. Everything they accentuate, is something I don't want.
Avatar 12:11pm
Mailman Tom:

Glad to hear both Mark and Paul on your show today. I was happy and surprised to see that I received a small credit in the book. Thanks, guys!

Baby. Let's face fact that you a sucker for 1/8 note piano bling songs. Michael Buble, etc. It's good stuff any way that it's packaged.
  12:37pm
?:

This is nuts. A theory: Being besieged by his girlfriend for a marital commitment inspired Robert Lamm's "Questions 67 & 68," so maybe his desire to go far away was related to that sort of conundrum.
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Hellraiser 2024 Swag For Life Member 12:38pm

I take responsibility for the above comment.
Avatar 12:47pm

good ernie chaffin cover.
  12:48pm
stevief:

Just wondering what The Above does right that many others do not? And what is the bagel and slice of pizza of the rock canon? Another fantastic set, by the way
Avatar 12:50pm
Listener Baby:

Feeling Low is one of those impossible songs with about 6 lyrics in it, and still says everything it needs to say. I wish I could do that.
Avatar 12:51pm
Michael Shelley:

Many other bands are influenced by the same stuff the Above are - and copy the sound (and clothes) in a superficial way - AND (most importantly) they dont have THE SONGS - the Above have THE SONGS!
Avatar 12:52pm
Listener Baby:

And.. The Above has ZERO "precious" stuff going. I love their 'Tude"
Avatar 12:53pm
Listener Baby:

Shit!! You just reminded me !! The tickets!! CRAP!!
Avatar 12:54pm
Michael Shelley:

Many places make something that LOOKS a lot like a bagel & a slice of pizza - they think: it looks so simple, few ingredients - but what they make sucks.

Sometimes the simple things are the hardest to do - because the subtlety is what its all about
Avatar 12:54pm
Listener Baby:

Whew.. Still have an hour for Marty tix. Almost lost my lunch.
