Sun. Dec 22nd, 3pm - 5pm:
The Unsolicited Return of the Winter Soul-stice (fill-in for Paul Bruno)
(More info...)
You can't stop the seasons from turning, and you evidently also can't stop an old dog from performing his one old trick. Answering the teeming clamor of one New York Times food columnist
, Gaylord Fields is returning to WFMU's airwaves for a one-off Winter Soul-stice program. In his time away he's learned nothing, so the format will remain the same: two hours of original 1960s soul 45s, and the abuse of an expensive reverb machine for the sake of corny vocal effects.
@northguineahills: So many good ones to choose from, but this one is among the pack leaders. Besides, it has my second-favorite opening line of any song. (My No. 1 is the first line of Otis Clay's "That's How It Is": "Please somebody take their hand / And slap some sense in me"!)
@Ricky: That song, along with Manhattan Public Access Channel J/Channel 35, taught me about what birds and bees get up to when they meet at the avian+apian equivalent of Plato's Retreat.
@coelacanth∅: War was also the band with six black guys and one white guy, and the white guy had the biggest Afro.

I broke with my partner and just today moved into a new apartment by myself. Sitting in the kitchen and just listening. Nothing but listening. This show is just making the whole experience so much better.
Ken, it might affect it; but it's basically a matter of what deals are struck between the jukebox owner and the piggie, unethical publishing companies. (<is that phrase redundant?)
i just websearched and the first thing that came up is Pee Wee on Letterman...and i believe i saw that show. (which is coincidental, because i've probably seen letterman only 1-2 dozen times.)
