the Canterbury wood-elf:

National Health were the only one of the so-called Canterbury bands not to feature any members with geographical links to the city, so they were most likely to dispute the tag. I can't find a Pete Frame tree that goes as far as NH (there's a 'Soft Machinery' one that's widely circulated), but there's a basic one here: www.geocities.co.jp...

Avatar 4:38pm

and what about the background singers? once they've done their ooh oohs and la las, and their little shimmy shake, now they can smack a cowbell.
Avatar 4:38pm
glenn:

or perhaps one bangs a cowbell.
Avatar 4:39pm
Carmichael:

I believe it's "bang a gong, smack a cowbell". At least that's what I learned at percussion school.
Avatar 4:40pm
glenn:

and "smack a cowbell, get it on" just doesn't work.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm
Uncle Michael:

"Key": a favorite track by one of my very favorite bands.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm
dale:

great guess who!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm
Irwin:

This is a shorter version, Michael. The drum solo had to go.
Avatar 4:43pm
Fredericks:

This Guess Who sounds like they're trying to become the Grateful Dead.
Avatar 4:43pm
Carmichael:

I saw these guys in '74, along with Montrose, Elvin Bishop and Redwing. In a race track stadium.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm
coelacanth:

is this canned heat, from the album "the guess hoo"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm
Fuzzy:

Nice -- never heard this before. I like the longer album version of "No Time" too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm
Irwin:

COWBELL.
Avatar 4:44pm
Carmichael:

I believe that's Randy Bachman on guitar, no?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm
Uncle Michael:

I understand, Irwin...the other version is loooooong.

I set aside a ten minute Guess Who track for an upcoming show, not half an hour ago.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 4:44pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

This cowbell talk reminds me of watching downhill ski racing on TV. Some fans wave cowbells around.
Avatar 4:44pm
glenn:

garry peterson's a great drummer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm
Passaic River Blues:

Beats!
  4:45pm
berbo:

Every time you hear a cowbell, it means a lesser demon got his pitchfork.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm
Irwin:

He is indeed a great drummer, but the solo on this track is irrelevant, distracting, and unnecessary. SEZ ME.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm
coelacanth:

i cannot imagine that the guess who would want to sound like the grateful dead. (or anybody besides the guess who, for that matter)
Avatar 4:46pm
glenn:

yeah, but irwin, that applies to EVERY drum solo.
  4:47pm
Warwick joe:

That electric guest song was friggin great. Gonna see if my wife will dance to it. That’s always the quality gauge.
Avatar 4:47pm

they tried to sound like the doors on at least a couple of songs.
Avatar 4:47pm
Fredericks:

Maybe it was musical osmosis Coelacanth.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm
coelacanth:

@4:45 for the same reason i like the single edit better of "i'd love to change the world".
  4:48pm
Brainiac:

@berbo Yeah, I'm stealing that one. When I tell it I'll preface it with, "Teacher says..."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm
Irwin:

Glad I could find a second Electric Guest song to love besides "Dear to Me," which continues in heavy rotation in my headspace.
Avatar 4:48pm

  5:16pm

But Death Cab crept into my ears today earlier
Avatar 5:17pm

I like when large ensembles leave room for adventure. Too often the arrangements stiffen the delivery. I like my jazz loose-limbed. This Hollenbeck is just right
