Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

Kazuki Tomokawa 友川かずき | Live in the WFMU Studio | Engineered by Ernie Indradat | Kazuki Tomokawa's radical music took its roots from Bob Dylan and the heyday of Japan's 1970's folk and theater movements; he began performing solo with acoustic guitar in 1985 and immediately staked his own sonic terrain with a fiery and passionate vocal delivery that has been depicted as "an exorcism." Through the years, his international profile has been raised thanks to the legendary PSF record label which has issued scores of releases, as well as a prominent appearance playing songs in director Takeshi Miike's film Izo. He continues to create music, poetry, paintings, and is a foremost commentator on bicycle races for Japanese television. His short (but completely intense) set in the WFMU studios was recorded during the week of his first ever performance in New York City at Greene Naftali in Chelsea, put on by Blank Forms. Thank you to Lawrence Kumpf, Ernie, Naohito Koike, and Tomokawa. Songs: A Don-Pan Bushi Carousa / The God is Crying in the Well / Say with Conviction, I am Alive. Website. | 1:00:52 (Pop-up)

The Rebel | Live in the WFMU Studio | Engineered by Glenn Luttman | Inhabiting the strange zone somewhere in between William Burroughs, The Fall, George Jones and The Residents, The Rebel AKA Ben Wallers has existed as the solo (and more prolific) extension of London's beloved-slash-undernourished Country Teasers. Through countless recordings, Wallers' songs of whimsy and dripping societal observations and indictments have made for a solid catalogue of true English outsider greatness; in fact his 2008 visit to Brian's show with band in tow resulted in the great live LP "Northern Rocks Bear Weird Vegetable" on the Sacred Bones label. Wallers visits the program solo on the heels of a European tour with Austin pals Spray Paint, and his latest LP release "Poems With Water Triology" is out on Texan imprint Monofonus Press. | 1:40:14 (Pop-up)
