Decades ago I saw on TV someone going into the etymology of "can" in that last sense (like canned mushrooms). Seems that sense went back to an Indo-European root that made it also relate to canal, channel, cane, and several others I've forgotten.

Meanwhile "canny" goes back to ken, a different Indo-European root for things related to knowledge. I've no idea if either of these relate to cant, as in singing, or canter as in the pace.

@Paul I went to Shannon & The Clams in October at Monty Hall, which was my first time at the venue. They didn't have a bar, but were selling beers out of coolers. There's a few bars that are close by that aren't too bad price wise. There's a really good diner a few blocks away --City Diner that has good eats and drinks. We checked out the Iron Monkey Bar which was okayy.. service kinda sucked

@Paul, yeah, it's whatever, nothing special about the place. I went on a Sunday, so maybe that could be the reason. We'll either hit up a bar or bring some beers with us to have before the show if the venue isn't having them. I'd recommend City Diner if u wanna grab food and drinks.

Here's a little FYI trivia: there is a connection between that song and Sloatsburg, NY via the Johnathan Demme cult classic flick Something Wild. The intro to that song is played during the sequence where Jeff Daniels follows Melanie Griffith and Ray Liotta into Virginia.
