Hi all!
Love this dB's (and most of their stuff).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28am Uncle Michael:

Ask him about "Love Me Do."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28am melinda:

@UM I'm going to clarify butter today too!
  11:29am Marc15:

Delbert McClinton is considered “Roots Rock” — whatever that means
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am Uncle Michael:

Melinda, I keep it really simple. When the water's done boiling off, I just pour it through cheesecloth. How do you do it?
  11:31am phat:

lol, bowling shirts
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am melinda:

The term Roots Rock always throws me off because I picture tree roots and hippies.
Avatar 11:32am Michael Shelley:

what are you guys doing with all that butter?

Pardon my late arrival, but good morning everyone!

Laura Cantrell <3
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am doctorjazz:

I'd just call Delbert McClinton Texas music
One of my favorite Laura Cantrell songs-I'd think about tonight in Montclair, my wife has a bad cold, think I have to be nurse...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am doctorjazz:

(last saw her at FMU)
  11:33am scott:

How would you classify Doug Sahm?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am doctorjazz:

Texas Music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am Uncle Michael:

I mainly use it for making Dutch Babies...but sometimes I'll use some to fry a ham steak (for example). It will cook as hot as oil without burning like unclarified butter.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34am melinda:

I simmer the butter until the solids sink to the bottom and do the cheesecloth thing. The first method I used involved gradually skimming the solids off the top and was stupidly tedious. That's what i get for following the first youtube how-to video I found. I don't do a whole pound at a time but I use it in place of whole butter.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35am Frank Above:

More Fiveash is not a bad thing at all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am Uncle Michael:

I'll have to watch to see if all the water's boiled out by the time the solids drop. If you overcook it till the solids caramelize, it's ghee.
  11:36am George in WO:

Your Christmas show last year was fantastic, Michael!
  11:37am john wesley coleman:

laura contrell awsome. good setlist man!
ola from austin texas
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38am melinda:

I didn't know there was a distinction between clarified butter and ghee, but ghee is what I've been calling my end product.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39am Uncle Michael:

That's the distinction.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am melinda:

I might also make borscht.

lot of my collecting buddies hate all the mis-information people enter and it gets taken for gospel
  11:59am bonneville73:

great for rare and obscure records being sold cheaply but I wonder who in the hell is buying albums I consider dollar records for $40 or more.
  12:00pm bonneville73:

I gotta break for lunch and go pick up my food, no one go anywhere.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00pm Uncle Michael:

I use Discogs for hours each week, as a research tool. I also use 34cat.com, jazz-on-line.com and other sites.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm Uncle Michael:

45cat.com, not 34cat.com
Avatar 12:01pm Michael Shelley:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03pm Uncle Michael:

Have I ever perpetuated misinformation by using research, rather than artifact? Probably. A good faith effort is the standard to which I hold myself.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03pm Frank Above:

I know what you're saying bonnevill, but the good things about Discogs vastly outweighs the bad for me.
  12:04pm Paddy MeBoy:

Its called brining

Swag For Life Member 12:06pm tadpoles:

Hope it's not re-used fracking chemicals!
  12:06pm Tyler:

The fluid being sprayed on the roads is mostly brine. So the salt is mixed with water first and spreads much more easily than rock salt and can be applied BEFORE the precipitation hits.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm Uncle Michael:

It's a preventive measure, Michael. It's a pre-treatment.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm joe:

It's a brine solution to try and keep the road conditions in check. blog.udot.utah.gov...
  12:08pm pedro in Arlington Va:

hi Mike,
Brining is effective and often made from sort of safe things like beets. It can go down days before and sit there dried. It's pretty effective with the right conditions. I do work for county public works.

You can pre-treat your turkey with it as well. ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Uncle Michael:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm Ken From Hyde Park:

The brine sauce is all well and good for the cars, but probably no so good for the fish when the stuff washes into the local streams & rivers, though.

@Andy: It’s the other way around. Helen’s ample Britishisms should be the tipoff.
  12:36pm DG:

When I was the quasi-music writer for a kids' magazine in '87, I first heard the Elvis/Memphis album when RCA did all those reissues (for the 10th anniversary of his death). It's too bad that later material of his, like this, isn't better known. As for "Midnight Shift," this is a nice counter to Holly's wholesome image. How'd this get released?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm Frank Above:

Did you bring enough for everyone Clarke?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm Frank Above:

  12:57pm Peter K.:

"Zippo Marks" is a new one -- wrong first AND last names. Also, the whistling at the very end is by Harpo. This song was performed in "Horse Feathers" by all four of the Marx Brothers, individually. (Harpo also played it on the harp.) Groucho's very cynical rendition is my favorite.
