Favoriting Brian Turner: Playlist from December 19, 2017 Favoriting

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

That Wei Zhongle track just dropped the horn riff from OutKast SpottieOttieDopaliscious. Where did that riff originate?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@TDK60: ...after 'MyGeneration' & 'AreYouExperienced?' - but *before* the Stooges or Sabbath...in fact it stands as unique...

TDK60:

Yes, RRN63: Also sludgy psych (with blues) and from the same area, was Big Brother & the Holding Company's 2nd album, Cheap Thrills. Janis Joplin on voc. (Their first LP was more garagey-mod-psych.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm
Passaic River Blues:

@Canada & Karlward: the internet suggests the riff may have been lifted and retooled from Genesis' "Dancing with the Moonlit Knight".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@TDK60: Yes - the Cheer was SanFranciscan - if considered the rude stepchild there, so to speak
...& I think DickiePeterson's bears some comparison to Janis...& Roky...high praise...JulianCope always a Cheer champion...

FMU used to play this album when it was first released and I used to dig it back then. 50 years later, Scott Fagan came to my studio where we remastered this album from my brand new vinyl to CD. Five years later, it finally saw its official release which I hope you're playing now. When I was 14 and listened to this song in '67, I never knew Charlotte Amalie was the capitol of the U.S. Virgin Islands where I eventually moved. Small, small world. Scott Fagan stayed with me for almost a week while we did the transfer and remaster. It was a blast!

@Brian: Yes indeed I see you played the Saint Cecilia Knows re-issue. They did an absolutely fantastic remastering job using the ORIGINAL RECORDING TAPE! Scott was literally glowing when it came out. He's still living where he was born on St. Thomas. For 10 years I lived practically next door to him on St. Croix. Yeah, that reissue is amazing. Thanks for playing it, Brian. Haven't heard it in a while.
