Favoriting Brian Turner: Playlist from January 2, 2018 Favoriting

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

Aw, I missed the Truckin'!
Shameless self-promotion: I made a cheesy Youtube video for one of the Pop-O-Pie Truckin' versions that I linked to on my audio/video tab in my WFMU profile. Mr. Pye even emailed to tell me he liked it!

Loved Prog/experimental /Heard Ramones/Devo/Sex Pistols etc..became a punk rocker-Punks =Hippies!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Think a lot about how Prog/ArtRawk & PunkRawk are related.
The narrative is often that overlong RickWakeman solos drove people to Punk
- but I think also of the Eno-Iggy interface...obvious to you lot of course...
...Like - if simple elements can't make Art - then toss out Matisse...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...another musing: RawkMovements are all echoes of European Modern Movements
+ Black American R&B...like Psych is Surrealism + R&B, Punk is dADa + R&B, Mod is Futurism + R&B...
Avatar 5:33pm
Chris from DC:

Digging the show, a bunch of records to follow up on here.
  Swag For Life Member 5:37pm
disantlor:

Rabbit, I'd maybe suggest shyly that the common thread is a song's ability to evoke and sustain a clear feeling and that more elements added to a song require more skill/care/attention to avoid disturbing that feeling (Eno being a master). Overlong solos/prog maybe blur the message with the medium
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@disantlor: That's very good. Any Genre has it's typical pitfalls...

@disantlor: (Great Musicians & Great Songwriters are certainly not always the same people - in fact - used to presume maybe seldom so? - & so w/ Arranging &tc. ...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Speaking of Surrealism - RobynHitchcock's rap between tunes alone is worth a ticket...

good point RRN, its also interesting how much higher the bar is for performance once there are vocals (seems to me at least)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@disantlor: Like bands whose records have harmonies - & they don't even try Live! Slam TheBeatles all you like - I can guarantee they sang their own damn parts...Eno has remarked on the Problem of Words...
Thank YOO BT.
