a nice cover... not heard this one
Avatar 6:09pm

This is one of the most pop filled shows in recent times
Avatar 6:09pm

I found this single by the Torques in Milwaukee
Avatar 6:10pm
cometothesunshine:

This song got a lot of covers!
Avatar 6:10pm
mce1965:

it sure did

Javier from Arge tina:

I love this song, but The Zombies version can't be beaten!
Avatar 6:12pm

The Zombies is certainly the best!

Once again discovering exciting new (old) music here thanks to Mr. Sandoval!
Avatar 6:19pm
cometothesunshine:

I am so glad! My dig through the 45 boxes this week was especially fruitful.
  6:20pm
Javier from Argentina:

Today I was having lunch at a friend's house and told him about the show. He said he didn't know who you were. I took the Kinks Kontroversy 2 CD set from his shelf and said "Read the credits!" lol
Avatar 6:21pm
cometothesunshine:

quite a compliment - thank you!
Avatar 6:21pm
cometothesunshine:

That is, of course, one of my favorite albums - a life changer for sure
  6:22pm
Javier from Argentina:

Great song, though I prefer Johnny Burnette's and Herman's Hermits doing it. Gants are too "garage" for me.
Avatar 6:22pm
cometothesunshine:

I like those versions too - this is a fairly garagey set
Avatar 6:22pm
cometothesunshine:

But, there are some particularly soft sounds on the way
  6:23pm
Javier from Argentina:

Of course! But I consider "Something Else" and "Village green" life changers as well.
Avatar 6:23pm
cometothesunshine:

Hard to believe these are the nascent Hudson Bros.
  6:23pm
Dave Amels:

Hi Andrew!
  6:24pm
Javier from Argentina:

Hudson as in "Mark Hudson" Ringo's producer?
Avatar 6:24pm
cometothesunshine:

Hey Dave!
Avatar 6:24pm
mce1965:

Yup indeed re: Huds
Avatar 6:24pm
cometothesunshine:

Yes, that Mark Hudson - before his multicolored beard
Avatar 6:25pm
mce1965:

Pre-beard paint
Avatar 6:25pm
cometothesunshine:

This - The Lovin' - is a great Larry page production
  6:25pm
Javier from Argentina:

Wow! Never heard it before and like it!
Avatar 6:27pm
cometothesunshine:

A very tough sounding British record, in places
Avatar 6:27pm
mce1965:

A proper kind of tough
Avatar 6:30pm
cometothesunshine:

I misread the release date of the New Yorkers - actually august 1967 - my apologies - time takes time
  6:30pm
Javier from Argentina:

Is this on CD? The Playground. Lovely sunshine pop
Avatar 6:31pm
cometothesunshine:

It has never officially been on CD - it has been bootlegged on some comps - this is direct from the original 45 - as are all the things in part one of the show.
  6:32pm
Javier from Argentina:

I'll have to lookup the Bootleg then! What are labels like RPM or Cherry red doing? They have to release it! BTW: Great job on digitizing the singles!
Avatar 6:33pm
cometothesunshine:

This track from the Happy Medium features one of the most ubiquitous LA session guitarists on the late 1960's - still trying to figure out who it is - but I hear him on so many records.
Avatar 6:34pm
cometothesunshine:

I spend a lot of time cleaning records!
Avatar 6:36pm
cometothesunshine:

Don't Fear The Reverb!
Avatar 6:37pm
cometothesunshine:

Would like to track down the Elli LP on Dig The Fuzz
Avatar 6:37pm
mce1965:

Great tune from Elli
Avatar 6:38pm
cometothesunshine:

yes, I want more!
Avatar 6:40pm
cometothesunshine:

I really like this one by the Higher Elevation
Avatar 6:40pm
cometothesunshine:

almost didn't get a play this week, because of inner groove distortion
Avatar 6:41pm
mce1965:

The cleaning magic worked
Avatar 6:42pm
cometothesunshine:

just enough
Avatar 6:43pm
cometothesunshine:

My apologies for the stereo! The late '60s brought with them many complications.
Avatar 6:43pm
mce1965:

You anticipated me
Avatar 6:44pm
mce1965:

The GWP label was a early proponent of stereo 45s I guess
Avatar 6:44pm
cometothesunshine:

I guess it was
Avatar 6:45pm
mce1965:

Was this found in STL or KC?
Avatar 6:45pm
cometothesunshine:

At the record meet we went to
Avatar 6:46pm
cometothesunshine:

This single by The Game was found in Kansas City a few months back.
Avatar 6:46pm
mce1965:

So it's a Missouri mood with this set. Nice track!
Avatar 6:47pm
cometothesunshine:

very soft - i feel like this whole set was dipped in Snuggle and put in the dryer
Avatar 6:47pm
mce1965:

Apt for my multitasking
  6:50pm
Javier from Argentina:

Wow this is good! Is there more by Chris Wilson?
Avatar 6:50pm
mce1965:

Did you ever find Chris's other 45?
Avatar 6:51pm
cometothesunshine:

I did!
Avatar 6:51pm
cometothesunshine:

I have it here in the record room - coming soon, perhaps.
Avatar 6:52pm
mce1965:

Ah good
  6:54pm
Javier from Argentina:

Question unrelated to the show: Why are the bonus discs on the first 3 Bee Gees so short? Record company limitation or not enough rare material to include? Sorry for the off topic question. But these CDs I collect bring me a lot of questions about their making!
Avatar 6:56pm
cometothesunshine:

Javier - In the US, companies pay per song on CD, so part of it is paying for the publishing. The other part is the material that Barry & Robin would approve. However, they did approve the majority of what I presented them.
  6:58pm
Javier from Argentina:

Thank you for your response, Andrew! These bonus discs always leave me wanting more.
Avatar 6:59pm
cometothesunshine:

sometimes there isn't much more!
Avatar 7:02pm
mce1965:

Chris... a very unfairly overlooked artist
Avatar 7:02pm
mce1965:

Great stuff
  7:02pm
Javier from Argentina:

I love your Monkees reissues cause they're filled to the brim with stuff! It only pisses me off that the bonus tracks from previous reissues sometimes are not included so I have to keep both lol
Avatar 7:02pm
cometothesunshine:

strange that he abandoned rock on A&M, but I believe he signed to the label to do his thing and Herb took him in a new direction.
  7:03pm
Javier from Argentina:

Is this the same Chris Montez from "Let's dance"? wow, didn't know he went this route
Avatar 7:03pm
mce1965:

Yeah, I think Call Me pretty much determined the rest of his career on A&M
Avatar 7:04pm
mce1965:

But that's fine with me
Avatar 7:04pm
cometothesunshine:

Yes, this is the "Let's Dance" Chris
Avatar 7:04pm
mce1965:

Plus they added this Johnny Rivers/Trini Lopez "live" thing
Avatar 7:05pm
cometothesunshine:

Sometimes there are legal reasons why certain bonus cuts don't move forward to new reissues
Avatar 7:05pm
cometothesunshine:

Yes, very Trini/Johnny/Stars On 45
Avatar 7:07pm
cometothesunshine:

I would like to say that these were simpler times, but being that we are honoring MLK day, they really were not.
Avatar 7:09pm
cometothesunshine:

Still, Chris was a Latino rocker who made good and sold a lot of albums. He never made any especially hip ones, but the next set will display his early rocking sides.
  7:10pm
Javier from Argentina:

I'm really liking Chris Montez poppier side!
Avatar 7:10pm
mce1965:

It don't have to be hip to be cool
Avatar 7:12pm
cometothesunshine:

So this is from a pre-"Call Me" A&M session produced by Marshall Leib - I wonder if they did more like this?
Avatar 7:13pm
mce1965:

I'd bet they were shelved when the new direction succeeded
Avatar 7:14pm
mce1965:

This is a great track though
Avatar 7:15pm
cometothesunshine:

Yes, one other track surfaced later - "Elena" - but I imagine the rest burned up in the Universal fire.
Avatar 7:16pm
cometothesunshine:

I love these very Searchers sounding tracks.
Avatar 7:17pm
cometothesunshine:

He yells "Go Head On" during this one!
Avatar 7:18pm
mce1965:

An early clue
Avatar 7:19pm
cometothesunshine:

yes!
Avatar 7:19pm
mce1965:

Nice use of the Raunchy lick
Avatar 7:19pm
cometothesunshine:

and this is post-Beatles
Avatar 7:19pm
mce1965:

exactly!
Avatar 7:20pm
cometothesunshine:

I love Derek Taylor's liner notes where he mentions he thought the DJ said "Miss Montez" when he first heard "Call Me."
Avatar 7:21pm
cometothesunshine:

I regret not speaking to Larry Marks about producing Chris Montez when I had the chance.
Avatar 7:26pm
cometothesunshine:

I am surprised A&M didn't keep him on, selling easy listening LP's
Avatar 7:27pm
cometothesunshine:

Maximum Softness
Avatar 7:28pm
cometothesunshine:

Total "Balloons in The Park" rock
  7:29pm
Javier from Argentina:

Nice cover!
Avatar 7:30pm
cometothesunshine:

yes, one of the better "Sunny"'s out there
  7:30pm
Javier from Argentina:

I've first heard this song by Del Shannon
Avatar 7:30pm
cometothesunshine:

a good one too
Avatar 7:33pm
cometothesunshine:

Sounds like Wes Montgomery on guitar
Avatar 7:42pm
mce1965:

I'm certain it is
Avatar 7:43pm
mce1965:

And the rest of the A&M orchestra on handclaps
Avatar 7:44pm
cometothesunshine:

You get the impression it was a nice label to be on.
Avatar 7:44pm
mce1965:

As artist-friendly as it gets
Avatar 7:45pm
cometothesunshine:

Started in a garage - perfection
Avatar 7:45pm
mce1965:

Yep
Avatar 7:47pm
mce1965:

Another gorgeous show Andrew... I am off for some dinner but will keep the sunshine on in the background
Avatar 7:47pm
cometothesunshine:

enjoy - thanks for listening and your help!
Avatar 7:48pm
mce1965:

Always!
  7:50pm
Javier from Argentina:

What comp would you recommend on CD to get the Montez post rnr stuff? Great show!
Avatar 7:52pm
cometothesunshine:

There are lots of CDs - in Japan all 4 of his A&M albums came out and are fairly easy to find. Steve Hoffman did a CD - all stereo with some remixes.
  7:53pm
Javier from Argentina:

I'll lookup the Hoffman one. I spend quite some time at his forum lol.
Thank you for the music Andrew!
Avatar 7:55pm

Thanks for listening!
