Favoriting Brian Turner: Playlist from January 16, 2018 Favoriting

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

Attention WFMU shoppers!

On this playlist you'll now see a link to the 128 AAC stream we've had up quietly for a number of months, but which is now advertised prominently on KDB-generated playlist pages thanks to our friend Kenzo.

If your streamy player supports AAC, I recommend using this 128k AAC stream instead of the 128k MP3 one. Same bandwidth use, but I think the AAC stream is somewhere between a little and a lot better sounding depending on the music.

MP3 particularly sucks when hit with record surface noise, and you may have noticed that WFMU DJs sometimes play vinyl.

Enjoy!

Jeff Moore:

@disantlor et al: I believe the pop-up is using the 128k MP3 stream.

(not such a n00b question, because I had to look to see if my memory seemed right)

...but a dedicated standalone audio player like VLC or whathaveyou will always be a less fragile way to listen than a browser pop-up anyway.

@Jeff how can I tell what player I am using if I'm streaming with a older apple TV?
Avatar 5:05pm
Jeff Moore:

@Upsetter: That is an excellent question.

Chances are it would be using the MP3 stream.

Where did the Apple TV get the streaming source? Was it from a directory Apple maintains, or did you enter it in some configuration?

Note that the direct URL for the AAC stream (suitable for inserting in a directory listing or playing directly in, say, a Chromebook or mobile Safari browser) is:

You can find the direct links at the top of this page:

I left new york in 86 and knew no one here in California except the radio on the public end of the dial. WFMU was now in my past. Within two weeks I found" in the dark" and made one of my first friends. Besides this radio version of Rod Serling, through this program I became acquainted with Philip Glass, "My life in the Bush of Ghosts" and many other leads which would form my new life here. Then 5 years later I got my first computer and found that wfmu was online!
