Phase 2 was a Coxsone Dodd label, no? Rub A Dub? It is in my memory I bought Phase 2 labels at his shop near JFK.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58am
Meghan:

Roy Francis was the guy.....

Not Cocksone Dodd. Only Studio One in his shop> General Smiley & Papa Michigan is what I was thinking of, but finding it on Studio One.

Avatar 11:36am
glenn:

howdy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am
coelacanth∅:

80s reggae was painfully synth heavy (like most reggae since) but most of it i'd barely call reggae...more like cheesy 80s synth pop that happens to have been made by jamaicans.
...but "red" opened my door all the way. before that i only knew Marley, Tosh & Johnny Nash.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am
Meghan:

howdy glenn!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am
coelacanth∅:

(if i remember correctly)
Avatar 11:38am
glenn:

well, in all fairness, everything in the 80's was synth heavy.
Avatar 11:41am
glenn:

which makes sense, really. who's not going to wanna have fun with all the new technology?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41am
common:

Meghan, all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41am
coelacanth∅:

yeah, mostly. not my favorite decade for music...but both ends of the 80s were pretty rich.
Avatar 11:42am
Davis:

78-83 is my favourite reggae
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42am
Meghan:

Very true glenn..... and even prog rock had to try out the new sound to keep with the times....
Avatar 11:42am
Davis:

if you discard the 80s you miss Eek a Mouse and Yellowman for a start
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42am
Meghan:

Hey there Common!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43am
coelacanth∅:

for me it's around '67-79 (?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43am
Meghan:

very true Davis.... and that would be a shame....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45am
Michael 98145:

- gonna enjoy this in the archive! -
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46am
coelacanth∅:

and some synth-heavy wailing souls and steel pulse is good.
but all in all i'd do without all that sooner than do without the rootsy stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46am
Michael 98145:

( Yellowman was fun to see live back in the day )
Avatar 11:47am
glenn:

was gina x 70s or 80s? i LOVE that nasty shit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48am
Sem:

Didn't have to surface once for air, Ms. M., breathing a heavenly pure t'ing down here in the theme park. Thanks for the spins and talk. Bye!
Avatar 11:48am
glenn:

oh, and a lot of the grace jones stuff is pretty synth heavy.
Avatar 11:52am
mb:

I'm going to finish out the show Underwater. Thanks for a quality show, Meghan and Gregg!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53am
coelacanth∅:

i love Grace Jones. i don't think of her as reggae. ("reggae-ish"?)
...but anyway i know there are exceptions. just the majority of 80s reggae i was referring to.
(sorry i didn't say that)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54am
coelacanth∅:

the thing is, people call anything out of ja "reggae" and it's simply not the case.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am
adampsyche:

ah i was confused earlier even after reading this earlier "I and I (also spelled I&I, InI, or Ihi yahnh Ihi)"

en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58am
coelacanth∅:

great song! unfortunately this version not in the jukebox at the pub, where all versions of this song get played with regularity.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00pm
coelacanth∅:

Thanks Meghan and Gregg, and Jeff of course!
