Well, I’m from Seattle, and am now living in the distant burbs, and if you can’t live with rain in Seattle, especially in winter/spring, you get out. It’s been almost constantly rain, light rain mostly (being Seattle), but still rain, for six weeks.

Well crap, I missed the Sam Andrew portion of tonight's program! I'm a Sam Andrew fan.
  3:24am

This is why we have the archives, Simon. Scraps, I hope you find tonight's music complements suburban Seattle light rain the way I find it compliments the light rain of Jersey City

I live 8 miles from downtown Seattle. Love the rain. It's gone for the next few days. I actually have the opposite side of seasonal affect disorder -- I get depressed when it's sunny out. Hide in bed with the shades drawn, if possible.

Zakir Hussain and Daniel Ponce are credited with percussion -- I'd bet on Hussain on tablas.

Oh, wait, Aïyb Dieng gots a percussion credit, too.

You know who else lived, or lives, on my island? Bill Frisell. The library here used to get all sorts of CDs from his crowd of artistes.

Saw Bill Frisell a couple years ago at the Blue Note. He was amazing.

I'm in fear and love with Amy Rigby. Saw her and Eric in San Francisco. Was more comfortable with Eric. Glad there's a new album, without the drum machines.

According to her website, it looks like she's playing a lot of East Coast Shows this month and into March, then going to the UK for a couple weeks. Her new album's release date is February 23rd.

Jay claimed that he was so drunk when he recorded the original version of "I Put a Spell On You", that he couldn't even remember doing it. That's almost exactly the same as the story that John Phillips told about "Me And My Uncle".

I have to say, I think that the people who encouraged Janis Joplin to leave Big Brother are the people who helped kill her. I think that that band was wonderful, and should have kept improving with her media muscle behind them. She had her faults too. Could have been an awesome symbiosis.
  5:22am
markr:

They could be very unprofessional--showing up too drunk or stoned to play. "Cheap Thrills" took six months to record when it should have taken six weeks. BUT when they were on, they came to play, and they delivered EVERYTHING they had. I think the main thing that Janis lost when she left Big Brother was a bunch of friends. She died of loneliness more than anything.

I keep on watching old Ed Sullivan re-runs on the Decades cable TV channel, looking for pop groups performing live. It's pretty random. The Animals appear quite frequently, so they appear to be promiscuous with their copyrights.
