Well, I’m from Seattle, and am now living in the distant burbs, and if you can’t live with rain in Seattle, especially in winter/spring, you get out. It’s been almost constantly rain, light rain mostly (being Seattle), but still rain, for six weeks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22am pacific standard simon:

Well crap, I missed the Sam Andrew portion of tonight's program! I'm a Sam Andrew fan.
  3:24am markr:

This is why we have the archives, Simon. Scraps, I hope you find tonight's music complements suburban Seattle light rain the way I find it compliments the light rain of Jersey City
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27am pacific standard simon:

I live 8 miles from downtown Seattle. Love the rain. It's gone for the next few days. I actually have the opposite side of seasonal affect disorder -- I get depressed when it's sunny out. Hide in bed with the shades drawn, if possible.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32am pacific standard simon:

Zakir Hussain and Daniel Ponce are credited with percussion -- I'd bet on Hussain on tablas.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34am pacific standard simon:

Oh, wait, Aïyb Dieng gots a percussion credit, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39am pacific standard simon:

You know who else lived, or lives, on my island? Bill Frisell. The library here used to get all sorts of CDs from his crowd of artistes.
  3:43am markr:

Saw Bill Frisell a couple years ago at the Blue Note. He was amazing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45am pacific standard simon:

I'm in fear and love with Amy Rigby. Saw her and Eric in San Francisco. Was more comfortable with Eric. Glad there's a new album, without the drum machines.
Avatar 3:47am Scraps:

Sounds like Amy Rigby is well back. Awesome.
  3:50am markr:

According to her website, it looks like she's playing a lot of East Coast Shows this month and into March, then going to the UK for a couple weeks. Her new album's release date is February 23rd.
Avatar 3:53am mauri:

hey mark. hows the monday going all?
  3:54am markr:

So far, so good, how's it going for you? Where are you calling from, if I may ask? (I'm always curious.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55am pacific standard simon:

Co-incidence. I have only three autographed CDs: Amy & Eric, Robyn, and Shonen Knife.
  4:01am BEAVO:

That’s what I said about BB King he toured so often seemed like he be around forever
  4:01am BEAVO:

Is Pete Buck playing with RH?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03am pacific standard simon:

I bet there's a story behind that Rigby album title.
  4:04am BEAVO:

The film of them playing this at Woodstock incredible
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08am pacific standard simon:

I'd love to be a fly on the wall in the room where the Golliwogs changed into CCR. It must have been like being bit by a radioactive spider.
  4:09am markr:

Having a few issues updating the playlist at the moment, folks. Bear with me. I'll try to straighten it out.
Avatar 4:12am Scraps:

I always see Eszter Balint now when I hear the original Screamin Jay Hawkins. He’s a wild man, so bug off.
  4:13am BEAVO:

This became an underground “hit’ After Stranger than Paradise by Jarmush

Good morning, Mark, and hello, Circlulars.
  4:17am BEAVO:

She’s also in that Downtown 81 documentary, her father was a big art icon can’t remember his name.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17am Vincent Nifigance:

Morning all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18am pacific standard simon:

I have to say, I loved Billy Cobham's work with Mahavishnu, and hated his solo albums. How does that even happen?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20am pacific standard simon:

Lord Buckley!

Wow, Claude Debussy AND Joyce Cary references in the same stand-up bit! Comedy has come down since then.

come over. I can show you a tree and a lake.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37am pacific standard simon:

Jay claimed that he was so drunk when he recorded the original version of "I Put a Spell On You", that he couldn't even remember doing it. That's almost exactly the same as the story that John Phillips told about "Me And My Uncle".
  4:37am BEAVO:

Screamin’ Jay had that white paper mustache
  4:40am BEAVO:

I’ve never herd Papa Johns version of MAMU
  4:41am debt collector:

Good morning and love from Burlington Vt
There’s No better way to launch my Monday
  4:42am BEAVO:

Takin a hard left turn here
  4:44am markr:

Welcome to all the recent joiners. Beavo, sometimes a hard left is the only way to head off into a new direction.
  4:44am BEAVO:

I am up way too late tonight and I don’t know if I can handle the The Pidge This morning
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45am pacific standard simon:

Well, not exactly. Buffy St. Marie did it on an album after hearing him sing it at a party, and he was much surprised to get a royalty check many months later. Didn't remember at all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52am Ken From Hyde Park:

"Mr. Lucky" is DJ Frank O'Toole's bed music. Is that the same Mr. Lucky referenced earlier?
  4:53am markr:

Yeah my mistake, Ken.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54am pacific standard simon:

Urgh. Now I can't back up the story I heard. Please disregard until I can fin confirmation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58am pacific standard simon:

Ah. It was Judy Collins, not Buffy St. Marie. What a senile old man I am.
  5:03am ?:

Norah Jones
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03am pacific standard simon:

If I had any romance left in me at all, I would go see Nellie McKay if she was appearing near me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:06am pacific standard simon:

Cassette spit take!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07am pacific standard simon:

Nate burned the marathon DJ premium t-shirt down.
  5:12am markr:

Of course it was Norah Jones. Hello! Thank you, Mystery Listener. You know, the Riddler used to wear a get-up with a big question mark on it, so I don't know if you're affiliated with him in any way...just a hunch.
Avatar 5:13am Scraps:

This Antibalas song is on one of my probably-permanent mp3 players (so far three, probably more)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19am pacific standard simon:

I have to say, I think that the people who encouraged Janis Joplin to leave Big Brother are the people who helped kill her. I think that that band was wonderful, and should have kept improving with her media muscle behind them. She had her faults too. Could have been an awesome symbiosis.
  5:22am markr:

They could be very unprofessional--showing up too drunk or stoned to play. "Cheap Thrills" took six months to record when it should have taken six weeks. BUT when they were on, they came to play, and they delivered EVERYTHING they had. I think the main thing that Janis lost when she left Big Brother was a bunch of friends. She died of loneliness more than anything.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25am pacific standard simon:

I'm with you there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34am pacific standard simon:

I keep on watching old Ed Sullivan re-runs on the Decades cable TV channel, looking for pop groups performing live. It's pretty random. The Animals appear quite frequently, so they appear to be promiscuous with their copyrights.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41am pacific standard simon:

Cheap Thrills, tho, was one of the most fantastic albums ever. One of the first I ever owned. If you don't like even a little bit of it, you are dead to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44am pacific standard simon:

Jazz-rock fusion lived and died very quickly. My opinion.
  5:45am Doc Rock:

Thank God The DJ Finally Shut Up!!
More CHEAP THRILLS Less Fusion!!

LOVE every minute of "Cheap Thrills," also, Simon. Doc, you snooze, you lose. "Cheap Thrills" was the first thing I played.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52am pacific standard simon:

Always liked Bob Weir's singing better than Jerry's. Go figure.
  5:54am ?:

Thanks, Mark!

Hah hah!
Avatar 5:55am mauri:

Thanks, Mark R. Have a good break. Thanks for picking Julie to fill in. She's great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56am pacific standard simon:

I want to do this karaoke.
  5:59am markr:

Thanks for tuning in, friends and fiends. See you in two weeks. I agree, Ken, Julie's great, everybody enjoy her!
Avatar 5:59am Scraps:

Really? Simon, I don’t like Cheap Thrills, and I really don’t like Joplin. I kept my mouth shut, but. Because I don’t like some of what you like, I’m dead to you?
Avatar 6:00am Scraps:

I’m sad about Barlow.
