neil, you could also try asking billy jam if he wants to hear it, him being one of the biggest hip hop heads at fmu. as for recs, i was once a total newcomer to hip hop like yourself (still am more or less but getting more knowledgeable) and a tribe called quest's low end theory and nwa's straight outta compton helped me get more into it

Dälek is weird as hell. Shabazz Palaces. Flying Lotus productions. Flatbush Zombies. Styles of Beyond used to rap about aliens a bunch. Ab-Soul's song "Nibiru" is an explicit examination of paranoia but also uses the idea of existential fear of mass death as a metaphor for his own prowess. I love, love that song.
