Ulysses Crockett is a great name.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23pm
Sam Segal:

Mighty fine point, @Melinda! I ought to keep Ulysses Crockett in my back pocket for the next time I need an assumed name.
Avatar 9:28pm
northguineahills:

Harder to name a catchy tune named Ulysses Crockett, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29pm
melinda:

Big Noise from Winnetka is a funny song title.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31pm
Sam Segal:

For some reason, that tune is about the Chicago suburb of Winnetka.
Hiya, @NGH!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35pm
melinda:

@Sam that's why it's funny! Like Huge Sound from Downers Grove.

olá Sam e pessoas de cavalo

Peace and blessings, @Coel. Please, come in.

That was like a most standardest 80est toolboxiest specimen, but it was much enjoyingest.

Do I have to put my pants back on?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58pm
coelacanth∅:

only if you're going to court and you don't have a skirt.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03pm
Sam Segal:

Hahaha glad you dug it, @sbp! I do most of my crate digging in toolboxes.
Avatar 11:07pm
northguineahills:

No, UM, pantless is allowed. (still has pants on).
Avatar 11:10pm

Ack, doing night gardening and you played David Last!!!!. He's an old friend of mine! Amazing ragga-techno and experimental-minimal detroit/berlin techno artist. A special person to the universe. Picking up that record from Spinoza (who runs Bunker).
Avatar 11:11pm
northguineahills:

I was there when Brian picked the name "Bunker", and criticized him for picked the name as generic. Glad he didn't listen to my advice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15pm
Sam Segal:

Woah, that's a pretty fucking incredible, @NGH. Do you know if there was any specific meaning to the name "Bunker"? I had no idea you were in with that scene!
Avatar 11:24pm
northguineahills:

The Bunker started as an experimental techno party in the basement of Tonic in 2004. (Zorn's old club, that others started curate w/ who's who of downtown before it closed in april 12, 2007). Bryan (I spelled it wrong above) used the name Bunker as a way to respond to the gentrification that was sweeping NYC, the closing of all good art galleries and music venues. He then moved it to Williamsburg, ditched his job at Vice Music Recs and Agriculture Recsand sort of went mainstream, w/ some Euro EDM acts to pay the bills. But, he would still have good sounding techno/house, noisey techno, experimental electronic/ambient in the beginning ending of parties. That said, anything on his label is solid!

I have all Environments Vols 1-11 (all thrift store finds).
Avatar 11:27pm
northguineahills:

we'd all dig...
Avatar 11:30pm
northguineahills:

(Actually, I got 5 vols of Environments from my grandparents after my grandmother died. It was a revelation that my grandparents were into such environmental sounds (and their 78 jazz and ethno-music collection) that I would never had known of. All of my parents, aunts, uncles, and parents barely had any care for music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31pm
Sam Segal:

Man, I had no idea the Bunker started at Tonic. Incredible.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm
Sam Segal:

I've been to a few Bunker parties and none of them have had an EDMish vibe. I think they still keep it fairly real, from what I can tell.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33pm
Sam Segal:

Although, they are definitely not in spaces with as much underground cred anymore...
  11:33pm
Jeff g. via app:

This is pretty good late night dog walking music.
  11:33pm
Dean:

The first bunker was, of course, the archi-bunker.
Avatar 11:34pm
northguineahills:

I'm jumping soon for a going away party. (I'm too old to stay out this late). If I don't get back to the comments, thanks Sam!

I have many recordings of live recordings/turntabilist sessions at Bunker and other parties.

the second time I saw my wife, I dj'ed a Bunker party at the Williamsburg Music Hall (they moved next door to Output shortyly after).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35pm
Sam Segal:

Jeff G, you're just in time to hear some of that jazz music you're so fond of!
Avatar 11:36pm
northguineahills:

I'm very critical of techno music, and have given Bryan shit for it in the past (good techno is one of love, but, damn, I hate generic techno).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37pm
Sam Segal:

Thanks for the history lesson, @NGH. There's certainly no shortage of generic techno, that's for damn sure.
Avatar 11:37pm

one of my loves (can't grammar)
  11:37pm

Yay. I dig!
  11:39pm

Been meaning to spend time with this J-Jazz comp....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40pm
Sam Segal:

It's hit or miss for me, but I love a few of the tunes on it.
  11:43pm
Jeff g. via app:

I just bought volume two of this Ra solo stuff... forgetting that I already had it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44pm
Sam Segal:

Did you buy it physically or digitally?
  11:46pm
Dean:

I do that once a month, it seems. Part of the problem is memory and age, but also the tendency of reissues to use different covers (thank you very much, hat art).
  11:48pm
Jeff g. via app:

Dig. Different cover, and slightly different title.
  11:50pm
Dean:

Not one bit a Lanois fan, but this is terrific.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm
Sam Segal:

Pretty bizarre collab for Lanois
  11:56pm
Dean:

Was once upon a time not one bit a Gillian Welch fan, and now I buy it all. Haven't yet heard the latest David Rawlings thing, but love those, too. We change, despite age and irrational commitments.
  12:01am
Dean:

Allison Krause doing "Missing You" with John Waite ain't half bad, but nothing Americana about it. Then take in Jimmy LaFave's "Missing You," and it all comes into focus.
