I'm up for a caravan!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm
Sem:

Just a traveler in a caravan, that's me. Hello, David, Dr. J.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm
David D:

Hey Doc and Sem! Lots of caravaning to come...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm
Stanley:

Hi David. How's the weather over your way? We're heading to -5C and 15cm of snow tonight here in Edinburgh. It's going to be bloody freezing in this old caravan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm
David D:

Yes, the winter is striking back here too, Stanley. Hope everyone is keeping warm on this end of the caravan.
Avatar 4:09pm
northguineahills:

Once upon a time, a while back, someone did a set nothing but Caravan versions. It's going to kill me until I realize who it was. (Or maybe Doug just did a set's worth, ack!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm
David D:

NGH: What a good idea!
Avatar 4:10pm
northguineahills:

It's a sunny cool 75F/24C here in Gainesville (the coolest it's been in two weeks.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm
David D:

Well the winter has generally been mild here so far so we shouldn't complain - too much.

Steinski did a "Caravan" show in 2012: https://wfmu.org/playlists/shows/47178
  4:15pm
Dean:

Original broadcast in "Mid-90s."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm
David D:

Hey you're all getting way ahead of me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm
doctorjazz:

Nice in Jersey and NY, 55 degrees F (13C).
End of the weather report!

Read a review this morning of a new recording of Rachmaninov's All-Night Vigil, performed at Paul-Gerhardt-Kirche in Leipzig. Glowing review.

Contender for best cover of *the* "Caravan": Claw Hammer on their '96 'Scuse the Excursion EP, the cover of which is a parody of the cover of The Stranglers' Black and White, go figure.
Avatar 4:30pm
northguineahills:

"Mississippi Goddamn".... Fuck yeah!
Avatar 4:31pm
northguineahills:

Dean, that might have been it. I knew it was on this stream. Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm
David D:

Thanks, Dean. My wife sings in that church's choir in fact.
  4:32pm
Dean:

Just as Uncle Michael now opens his program with a tune, "My Hometown," with lyrics altered to recognize a different hometown each week, this tune might be fun to "version": West Covina Goddam, Fort Lauderdale Goddam, Green Bay Goddam, Albuquerque Goddam...
Avatar 4:33pm
still b/p:

Not sure I ever....don't know why..heard this until in the Nina documentary. Now heard it a couple of times on FMU in just the couple weeks since I watched it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm
Parq:

Turns out she was right.
  4:33pm
Dean:

Hardly an issue of Fanfare misses at least one reference to Leipzig, usually due to the composers who spent time there. The church looks gorgeous.
Avatar 4:36pm
northguineahills:

I once djed at a certain club in the East Village, Phil Och's "here's to the state of Mississippi", and the barkeep and barback got pissed and made me change the record (they were from MS). they were cool people otherwise.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm
David D:

The church has an interesting wooden ceiling in fact, rather unique. Not really a place tourists go, however.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm
Parq:

NGH, preferable to what happened to ol' Neil Young.
Avatar 4:40pm
northguineahills:

I mentioned earlier, I just realized I have an autographed copy of Majory Stoneman Douglass', "The Everglades, River of Grass" (pub: 1947) in my home library. It took a way too long to make the connection between her and the school named after her.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm
Sem:

Many thanks for the Nina Simone set, David. A great treat just now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm
David D:

Glad you're enjoying it Sem. And greetings Parq and still b/p!

Ok, never had heard a Finnish version.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm
Webhamster Henry:

Trouble did a Nina set last week too. Never enough Nina!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm
Parq:

Wait, the Nina version of "Misunderstood" was first? In all these years, I never knew that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05pm
David D:

Yes, she beat them by a year in fact.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:06pm
David D:

Henry - I agree entirely. I'll have to look for hers as well...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm
Stanley:

The unmistakable golden voice of Sam Mangwana.
Nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08pm

Give me these jangly African guitars any time!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm
doctorjazz:

(had to step out, missed the Nina Simone set, darn!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm
Parq:

The thing is, I always thought it was really shrewd of Nina to cover the Animals. Don't think the Animals get the same props for covering Nina -- who wouldn't?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22pm
doctorjazz:

Just stringin' us along!

last song was a nice soundtrack for my current (failing) mission: to find concise german translations for FABRIC (keeping metaphoric connotations alive) and RIPPLES (as in sand, dunes). gesundheit, everyone!

I put way too much habanero in this salsa verde,,,,, see y'all when I recover!

Hey Kuba - sounds like quite a challenge, yikes!

Not familiar with David Young, nice track.

Several years ago a buddy gave me a batch of fresh Habaneros his father had grown. I promptly ate a fresh one. It was yummy. Two weeks later I returned to the batch and consumed a dried one. It was caustic.

This Adler Trio was recorded live at LA's Harbor College, nine years after Richard Grossman's trio recorded there two tracks appearing on "Where the Sky Ended."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49pm

Another name I'm not familiar, nice track (losing my jazz cred, OMG!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm

Looks lie the end of the ride for me. Thank you, DD, hope to see you and all riders next time. G'night,
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm

Me, too. Same station as Sem.
Keep rolling along everyone.

Glad you could stick around, Parq. Happy you're there, antip. And welcome, βrian!

"Caravan" has always had vaguely exotic connotations to me. But I understand it has a more pedestrian meaning in the UK: "Trailer." Hmm.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35pm
Parq:

Grace Jones on that take? Okay, that explains it.

It's 12C on the isthmus right now. That's crazy! I'm breaking out the rosé and lawn chairs even though it's getting dark.

Hitting -12C here tonight!

None of this music calls to mind an Airstream, thankfully.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47pm

Hope the weather stays warm over there for a while.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47pm
Parq:

βrian, I drink rosé all year 'round, nuff said.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:49pm
Parq:

Can you get the Spanish rosé in the UK? The wine that's so dark it looks like red wine? Man, I love that stuff, but I've seen it in NYC only once, years ago.
Avatar 🚂 6:51pm
βrian:

@Parq: I confess I do, too. Though never for breakfast.

I tend to favor the Rosés of Provence, but that may be due to time spent there as a wild-eyed youngster.
Avatar 🚂 6:53pm
βrian:

[But this βrian, fwiw, is in Wisconsin.]
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:54pm

A rosé by any other name...
Avatar 🚂 6:55pm

I'd love to receive the gift of a bouquet of rosés.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:56pm

Super show, David. I do some volunteering during 'thon. I hope to get to meet you.
Avatar 🚂 6:57pm

Oh no. The Subway is about to go underground again.

Well, thanks, David D.

Hmm. That's bar time in WI.
