Hi everybody! That radio I took a snap of at a community radio station in Sonoma, CA that I visited last week. Thanks for all the pledge love tonight. Keep 'em coming at 800-989-9368 or wfmu.org.

I love David lynch and twin peaks was revolutionary, but I really want to know others opinions on the musical performances in the new show! So watered down and icky. What do you think?

Dark Matter? Related to math(and philosophy?)'s Continuum Hypothesis? I'm reading about the latter in a for-the-masses book. It makes my brain hurt. Anyway, let's all promptly pledge to wfmu now...

That last bit of banter was exactly what I needed to hear ... I work in a warehouse and I get the “ what are we listening to ?!” At least 3x a week .. I love WFMU

TDK 60, I actually don't know the year of that radio. It was in the lobby of KSVY, Sonoma, CA, a community radio station I visited and was interviewed on last Thursday morning. (My husband Peter was on as well.)

I honestly don't know how a person can listen to a typical classic oldies station for more than an hour. The same handful of songs from the same albums from the same bands day in & day out. It's more fun here with material I've never heard before and marbles in blenders and whatnot.
Avatar 9:43pm
TDK60:

And Ken, sometimes *even* a "classic" here! like today Clay played "Every Little Thing" by the Fab 4, a wonderful track.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46pm
pantz:

Every Tuesday at 11 am I hear there is a classic played on WFMU, without fail.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47pm

Yeah, a few like that here and there break things up a little.

re record labels cutting costs, here's what Grizzly Bear says: "...But now, when you cut out record sales and we haven’t had a car commercial in ages, we literally lose money. So yeah the evolution of the music industry is in my opinion destroying bands that play music that are mid tier or lower. Nobody cherishes or puts any value into the craft that goes into songwriting, or studying music! Yes pop stars write hits. Yay! They also get the branding deals, and corp gigs…"

When I listen to my dad's satellite oldies station in the car, it's a little different: lots of deep cuts. I can stand it. On the other hand, they constantly advertise the godawful Rock n Rock Hall of Fame. Still, it's a lot better than terrestrial radio.

Before cell phones we had actually remember people’s telephone numbers, something Millennials cannot do

Payphones? In this 60s movie, Benjamin asks his landlord for a dime so he can use a payphone. Landlord is mad at him and wants him to move out. Ben says "here's a $20 bill, I need a dime. This is the best deal you'll make in yr life.". -know the movie?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58pm

I remember my psych teacher in high school saying that 7 digits is the limit on tertiary memory, that;s why phone #'s were 7 digits. Probably bullshit,in hindsight.

@herb is it The Graduate?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02pm
Irene Trudel:

Yes, half the time I only know the phone number if I look it up in my contacts. Sad to say, I used to remember phone numbers easily, as I was a telephone operator right out of high school. Wasn't ready to start college. They taught me that people could remember 7 numbers without trouble, which is one of the reasons US phone numbers used to be that long, minus the area code. But I do remember my childhood telephone number-- FL33112.

I try to explain to nephews, nieces of the current Younger age, that a radio station, especially a non-commercial one, is a different thing from a song shuffle on a gizmo. It's an arts institution in an actual place. A home for crazies, musical fanatics and therapists.

Regarding Ms. Trudel's remark about an hour ago of having learned sound engineering via WFMU, Ken has said that WFMU's not a place to come to learn the audio crafts and art -- but he never said it couldn't happen as a happy unintended byproduct.

Yes, BEAVO, Nona didn't change the gender in any of the songs, which maybe was just a choice to stick with the original lyrics

That's right, Ms. Trudel, you have gentle, soothing music on about which it's no insult to say it puts listeners to sleep. That's how it's going to be in this time zone as long as you're in this time slot. When you were on in the afternoon following Ms. Berg's Mon. morning show, that was good too because after she revved us up to start the work week, your program would then mellow us out. A lot depends on the setting.
