Yes! I love this track! I was once stuck in lincoln tunnel traffic for more than an hour after a 10+ hour drive. It lifted me then so nicely, and this is the first time I've heard it since! These ears are smilin'!

Elliott Simon:

anyone seen I called him Morgan
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09pm
Irene Trudel:

Yes, Elliott! Really amazing documentary and so sad. Tonight's snowstorm approaching NYC put me in mind of this track. Sorry for the skips. Glad you like it, DC. I have to wonder how Lee would've developed had he lived a bit longer.

Elliott Simon:

that's cool...I dreally liked chasing trane
will have to ck it out...this cut reminds of Trane

This is lovely, Irene! And nice running into you during the marathon.

Tommy in Neversink:

This is my kind of jazz
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18pm
Irene Trudel:

Thanks to you all, Undead, Jake and Tommy! Yes, Jake, nice to see you during the Marathon too. That's when I catch up with a lot of good folks like yourself that I don't get to see often.

Listener Robert:

One of the first two pieces (didn't get to the playlist in time to tell which) reminded me of Carl Reiner on "Dick van Dyke" as a western bad guy, saying, "Pianist, give me a little of that `luduluduludul...'."

fleep:

Maybe we're just starved for content, but post-Marathon shows are great, it's like a big breath of fresh air.

katharsis:

Enjoying the set. Thank you!

I am the Upsetter:

You played two of my favorite jams to open the show. Thank you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38pm
DC:

@Tommy indeed, that was a fine vibe of jazz (thanks Irene!)
@Robert laughing at the dick van dyke reference
@Fleep, totally!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39pm
Irene Trudel:

Thanks Robert, fleep, katharsis and Upsetter. I'm definitely catching my breath, playing lots of long pieces tonight to compensate for all the on-air banter during the 'thon.

ES-175:

The new Bill Frisell album has quickly become one of my favorites for this year. SO good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52pm
DC:

Nice, David Garland is another great selection to hear from, and he is certainly another radio legend

JakeGould:

Postive thoughts to anyone who knows anybody in Austin because another bomb went off tonight. This time at a Goodwill which I think most WFMU listeners would happily crate dig at.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01pm
Irene Trudel:

Damn, Jake! I hope they put a stop to it soon. I've only been to Austin once, but it's a great music town (and not only during SXSW).
  10:03pm
JakeGould:

Well, I debated posting that… But good thoughts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm
Irene Trudel:

Sending positive thoughts to Austin via the music.

Peter K.:

I am loving this David Garland music! It has me spinning on air!!
  10:08pm
herb.nyc:

Will be tuning in soon. Leaving musical "miss you like hell", which I loved and think will have long run. Involves deportation, related to Austin bombs. ie, reality. (Meow; I feel like petting my cat)

DC:

Don't want to overcomment or be off topic here, but our country has to start having a conversation about mental illness and what it is that makes people want to harm others. We can add weapons and take weapons away until the cows come home, but the fact is we need to talk to each about "why do we want to hurt each other?" Talking more directly about our own nature of positive and negative potential might help avoid these nightmares. That should be taught in schools (in my opinion)

Nice to Spinning on Air!

Don't let Clay Pigeon get a hold of that gong.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20pm
Irene Trudel:

Ha! Peter! David's music does have a whirling quality about it. DC, I'm with you. Talk helps, as we're all essentially the same insecure characters inside. Hi melinds, TDK60 and Michiel.

I don’t blame you Irene for the long sets tonight., after the marathon

TDK60:

Mono! Some mid-to-late '60s albums sound better mono. Some of the early stereo was too separated. Some folks prefer the mono "Pet Sounds," etc. I'd rather hear "Beatles 65" in mono.
  11:10pm
Pickle Rick:

@ DC re your comment @ 10:09 - Quite correct, mental illness should be the primary focus as you don't even need weapons to commit great harm to others. I just saw an horrific case of elder abuse (from GA, I believe) that broke my heart. And then there's that shining example of humanity Mitt Romney who has more money than god yet his Bain Capital is one of the main reason for the demise of Toys R Us and the pending unemployment of thousands of US citizens.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17pm
Irene Trudel:

Thanks Will and wavy and KP and Pickle Rick. Happy that I'm hitting things just right tonight. TDK60, Brian Wilson did often say the Beach Boys were better in mono. And some Beatles too, yes.
