Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02am pacific standard simon:

Ha, this was the stuff that Muddy hated, right?
Avatar 3:03am Scraps h’m (h’m):

mm mm mmmmm mm
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08am pacific standard simon:

Scraps, you gots the Drummer Stream, and I gots Mark R! Cool!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10am pacific standard simon:

The Breeders still got "it".
Avatar 3:11am Mattedpelt:

Yeah, they do!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16am pacific standard simon:

To make my stupid opinion clear about the Electric Mud, I really don't like the psychedelic guitar slathered over the whole thing. I think he would have been better served by a more tasteful band backing him. I don't know... Butterfield? Miller?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21am pacific standard simon:

Although it might have been interesting to hear Muddy Waters backed by The Stooges.. heh
  3:22am markr:

Muddy did an album like that later called "Fathers and Sons."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28am pacific standard simon:

I think I need that record.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33am Fuzzy:

Graveyard worker representing from Bedford, MA! Sa-LUTE!
Avatar 3:33am Satis-factory records:

Good morning from Manchester!
  3:34am Powers:

I'm listening in Tokyo, translating a Japanese unicycle manual into English as I listen and digging every moment of the show! Thanks for the great tunes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35am pacific standard simon:

Since you asked, I am on Bainbridge Island, Washington. I moved here from San Francisco, where I lived for 30 years. Before that, I lived in all sorts of places.
  3:36am markr:

A jolly hello to all of you! Welcome to our little asylum.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39am pacific standard simon:

@Powers - That sounds like a magical existence, although I admit that you may not agree.
  3:42am Powers:

It's not too shabby- at least with Pharoah Sanders on and you great folk!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45am pacific standard simon:

Second show in a row to go with the Pharoah! WFMU! Any Archie Shepp?
  3:49am markr:

Is that right? I didn't check Jeff's playlist, and I only heard the last half-hour or so of his show. Also thought it was a nice bit of cosmic coincidence that he closed his show with those great old blues songs---Lightnin' Hopkins, etc., and then I come on and destroy everything with that psychedelic Muddy. Like most people, I hated that album at first, but over the years, it's grown on me, and now I actually think it's kind of great, in small doses. It's not in my daily rotation or anything. And it's certainly not the album I'd start with if a youngster wanted to learn about Muddy Waters. I'd still play 'em "The Best of Muddy Waters," for a good, solid foundation. And no, no Archie Sheep tonight, although I know I've played him on previous shows. He's a favorite of mine, and he may well make an appearance in the near future.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52am Vincent Nifigance:

This is amazing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54am pacific standard simon:

Yep, Jeff played "The Creator Has A Master Plan". That's the great thing about the station: It's all over the place, but sometimes it lines up like the stars and planets.
  3:54am markr:

I haven't listened to this in a very long time, Vincent. In fact, it's possible I somehow missed it among all the fantastic late 60s/early 70s albums Pharaoh cranked out. I previewed it this afternoon--wasn't really planning on playing anything this long at this point in the show, but a few minutes' listening convinced me I had to make room for it. Glad you're enjoying it too!
Avatar 3:55am Scraps h’m (h’m):

H’lo PacificST! Awesome adoption!

Bainbridge Island, that’s a good place to be. Assuming you have a car, and knowing what to do with it. Or a boat. Both would be nice!
  3:55am markr:

Wow, love "The Creator Has a Master Plan," too. Very cool.
  3:56am markr:

What about a car with a boat on it, you guys? Then you just pull up to the dock, drop the ramp, and drive right off into the sunset.
Avatar 3:58am Scraps h’m (h’m):

Or shoes which double as little waterbikes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00am pacific standard simon:

BTW, I have a huge problem with surfing the interface of my atheism and the overt religious content of some very affecting music. I can't even sing along with "God Only Knows" anymore. Yeesh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06am pacific standard simon:

Scraps, I live 7/10s 0f a mile from my job, so walking to work is no problem. The ferry isn't much further. So no car or boat.
  4:06am markr:

And where the hell are the flying cars? It's 2018 for god sakes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08am pacific standard simon:

Damn, my old CD of Daydream Nation is FUCKING OBSOLETE.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14am pacific standard simon:

I just realized that the Pharoah Sanders album was named after the chord changes from The Who's Tommy -- DDB -- Deaf Dumb and Blind.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26am pacific standard simon:

"Marquee Moon" is one of my most favorite things of all time. It's like "A Love Supreme".
Avatar 4:29am spacecowboy:

the grateful dead jam of late seventies new wave
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30am Guido from Cologne:

Good morning Mark!
Njoying! :-)
Avatar 4:33am Scraps h’m (h’m):

Now play “Torn Curtain”!
  4:35am markr:

Morning Guido and all my silent friends out there!
  4:36am debt collector:

Good morning and love from Burlington VT
  4:37am markr:

Love from Jersey City to Burlington!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38am pacific standard simon:

Spring is definitely here. We don't expect warmer temps, we just know that flowers and trees are going to bloom, and we aren't going to get no mo snow, even if we want it,
  4:38am markr:

Supposed to be a lovely sunny early Spring day here, hope you have some of the same. Still a chill in the air (especially this early in the a.m.) but when the sun comes out, there's hope.
  4:39am markr:

It's too early for me to say with confidence that we're through with snow in New Jersey. March has been a rough one--it's like we had the whole Winter in one month. A lot of heavy, wet snow, a lot of downed trees. Fingers crossed that we're through with all that nonsense. It's almost baseball season, after all.
Avatar 4:40am Scraps h’m (h’m):

please no snow....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44am pacific standard simon:

We only get snow maybe twice a winter in NW Washington. Sometimes not at all. That's why I hope for it.
Avatar 4:44am Scraps h’m (h’m):

hafta lie down & listen to the last hour & a quarter. cheers everybody
  4:45am markr:

Cheers, Scraps. May this Beethoven piano sonata lead to pleasant dreams.
Avatar 4:49am Scraps h’m (h’m):

I know, that’s why everybody wants snow in the PNW. But I’m selfish; I can’t go out in the snow. Makes me miserable, knowing very clearly how I’m disabled. Grrr, and sigh both
Avatar 4:50am Scraps h’m (h’m):

I fucking love Beethoven sonatas
  4:50am markr:

Fuck yes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51am pacific standard simon:

The name Mitsuko is generally written with the kanji characters 光 and 子 which, when translated into English can mean "light, child" or "shining, child".[2] However Mitsuko can have different meanings depending on which kanji characters are used to write the name. Some possible variations of the name Mitsuko are:

光子, "light, child"
充子, "provide, child"
満子, "satisfy/full, child"
睦子, "harmonious/intimate/friendly, child"
三子, "third child"
密子, "carefulness/secrecy, child"
蜜子, "honey/nectar/molasses, child"

I agree with all of that.
Avatar 4:52am Scraps h’m (h’m):

(Schroeder pounds piano)
  4:53am john the g:

this good stuff
  4:56am markr:

She's one of my favorites. I saw an ad from Lincoln Center touting all the great pianists that are coming, and I saw her name and got really excited and then saw it was for April 2019. We might all be dead by then!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59am pacific standard simon:

Them's the chances you takes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02am pacific standard simon:

She is surely as good as they come.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03am Vincent Nifigance:

A pregnant pause.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:06am pacific standard simon:

Well, Newman is probably the Beethoven of pop songwriting. Or maybe the Gershwin, which would be nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08am pacific standard simon:

I could have used another 40 years of Gershwin.
  5:10am markr:

I've got a little treat coming up for you at the end of this set, Simon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13am pacific standard simon:

This whole set is a treat.
  5:18am markr:

Glad you're enjoying it. Just, speaking of Gershwin...stay tuned.
Avatar 5:21am Sem:

Good morning, Mark, those of a circular persuasion.
  5:22am markr:

Morning, Sem. I've still got a few good tunes up my sleeve...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26am pacific standard simon:

Like this one!
  5:30am markr:

Actually, listening on the headphones, it's not THAT pristine. Still sounds pretty good, though.
Avatar 5:30am Sem:

Voluminous sleeves. The Divine Sarah, how nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31am pacific standard simon:

I could have used a lot more Sarah Vaughan in my life, too, but who the heck is playing piano on this track?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:37am pacific standard simon:

Jumpin Jack Flash, it's a gas gas gas.
  5:38am markr:

The piano player was someone named Jimmy Jones, who I've never heard of. But Roy Haynes played the drums. 1954 recording.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41am pacific standard simon:

I'm trying to think of her name... the skier killer?
Avatar 5:42am Sem:

Claudine Longet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46am pacific standard simon:

Claudine Longet. That's who I was thinking of. Not her. Oh well.
  5:47am markr:

Clay and I were having the exact same conversation here.
Avatar 5:50am Scraps h’m (h’m):

Red Norvo is a gas.

And Norvo-Mingus-Farlow is a...... triple gas.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50am pacific standard simon:

This is Red Norvo? I'm very glad that my whatchamacallit channel on my pad doesn't play it
  5:51am markr:

It was a contemporary remix, Simon. Not Red's original recording, but Red's recording that's been f'd with...
Avatar 5:51am Scraps h’m (h’m):

Norvo plays mallets.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53am pacific standard simon:

There's a lot of amazing Red Norvo out there, but that was NOT one of them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56am pacific standard simon:

I have a Benny Goodman Sextet channel on Pandora, which regularly feeds me excellent Red Norvo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58am pacific standard simon:

....And then you give me this. Aaah... Yes.
  6:00am Zetti:

Thanks Mark
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:00am Vincent Nifigance:

Killer ending.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:00am pacific standard simon:

I love Clay.
  6:01am MiniTeeny:

  6:01am jess:

who doesn't love Clay?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:02am Vincent Nifigance:

Talk away Mark, Clay talks over the beginning of everyone's show!
  6:03am slappy white:

Good morning, glisteners. Slappy in Hoboken
  6:04am Peter from Dover NJ:

Nice segue, Clay. Waking and baking, hello Glisteners!
  6:04am Readie Righteous:

Barely awake, good morning all, hello Clay Pigeon!
