It has less to do with the sales of mostly dispersed fan bases and more to do with our new dark world of the the digital payout. I think the first to do it was Def Leppard who re-recorded their entire first album for increased royalties.

His cult is inexplicable and further proof of the deterioration of Western Civilization.
