I just this weekend got around to watching the Travolting movie Battlefield Earth. I swore I would never actually spend money seeing it, and it popped up recently on Netflix, so in a way, I didn't break my oath.

It was really bad, but bad in a way that I find most mainstream movies nowadays. I think history will be kind to it in the future.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:07pm
pinholga:

@Rich my beloved bride got me the Terl action figure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:08pm
Rich in Washington:

But yes. Bad, and aggressively so. Made even worse in that it has somewhat good production values for the time. Without that kind of Ed Wood horribleness, there's no room to laugh, just pain. Endless pain.

I don't know what John Travolta was thinking with his characterization, if I can be so accommodating in describing his performance.

Kat in Chicago:

"Viola Mist". Oh boy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:15pm
pinholga:

No, Terl is John Travolta's character. It is 12" tall, has a button you can press that says various catch phrases, such as "You wouldn't last one day at the academy!" and "RATBRAIN!!!". It comes with fun accessories like a ray gun and a pile of gold bricks. It somehow manages to be stupider than the movie, but in solid form.
Avatar 6:16pm
Linda Lee:

"the magic of viola mist' sounds just like copy for a feminine hygiene spray commercial ~ sadly!
Avatar 6:16pm
Carmichael:

Speaking of Travolta, isn't Scientology considered to be a cult? Is there any of their music that could be played here?
Avatar 6:17pm
annie:

the work of Perelandra is based on the findings of what findhorn has done. keniesiology is one of the practices, used to determine what to plant where and when..and i think they utilize crystals

wish they'd stopped vacuuming behind 'empowered' .. might've sounded better.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:19pm

I believe that Scientology music has been played on previous episodes. And Battlefield Earth is very much a Scientology movie (the book had a soundtrack as well. I believe it is called "Space Jazz").

↳ Song: "unknown" by "unknown"
This track is just titled "Dona Nobis Pacem" A canon I sang a lot in the eighties when joining the three day group hikes of the Dutch christian peace movement Pax Christi. Singing this with two thousand people in the Cathedral of Saint John at the end of the three days in Den Bosch was very enchanting.
