Great topic for tonight, know a lot about this from thebparanthe realm. It's no joke and even the off shoots of it that are used for nasty things are bad.

Just like lots of our episodes, you might just be surprised.

I've known people who were very particular about the disposal of hair and finger/toenails out fear of roots getting worked on them (I don't know it here was a specific threat anticipated)

where was this house? i came in late

Listener Robert:

See, this is why I'd be no good at doing interviews: I'd've gone for the cheap joke, and when the interviewee said she thought "voodoo" was a racist distortion, I'd've said to her, "Oh, vous do?"
Avatar 7:23pm
kimzilla:

@ Listener Robert- If only I would have thought of that!

Wow what a great approach to education.

Kate:

The idea that you won't really understand things the first time through. I like that.
Avatar 7:30pm
kimzilla:

@ Kate, I know, its so impressive to grow up with this type of "informal" education.
  7:31pm
Emily:

@Kate right?? So smart. Like, if you read these things and they’re already in your head, even if you don’t « get » them, when you go out in the world and see things that resonate with what you read, you will start to understand...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:34pm

...or it was a natural reaction to IHOP food.
  7:35pm
Kate:

This is so similar to what I'm reading by Deepak Chopra right now.
  7:35pm
Listener Robert:

Kimzilla, whether you'd've thought of it or not, the thing I admire about great radio interviewers is their self restraint.
  7:35pm
Kate:

@ultradamno, that too
  7:35pm
Emily:

@ultradamno truth.
  7:39pm
JakeGould:

In Western society we live in the Judeo-Christian tradition even if you don’t believe you do. Exposing yourself to ANYTHING outside of that is valuable. Because man… Anyway!

I submitted my adoption request about a week and a half ago, but it says you're still unclaimed. Should I resend it? How long does it take for the adoption papers to come through?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:53pm
ultradamno:

I have to assume TBN has done some alarmist piece about her talking to Girl Scouts at some point
  7:53pm
Listener Robert:

You're being modest about your self-restraint. You know that there are certain things you could blurt out that would put the interviewee off. You can't edit that out. But you, like other good radio interviewers, know the interview's not supposed to be about you. Audience members sometimes complain that an interviewer let an interviewee off too easy; David Brudnoy used to get that complaint. But he knew that that's how you get the most out of the person being interviewed.

Unless you're a buffo interviewer like Narduar, The Human Serviette, or Stuttering John when Stern put him to it.

That thing about long-term repetitive study of a text which you don't initially completely understand but which later experience in the world informs and vice versa?

I did that with Tom Lehrer songs.

@ Robert, aww thank you. And that made me miss Nardwar!

AFAIK, Nardwar's still producing online from Canada.
