Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:00pm rrg:

Duane did do a station ID.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:01pm BronwynB:

hello irwin and everyone. twice the legal ID is twice as nice!
  3:02pm misterpickles69:

Wow it worked!!!
Avatar 3:02pm Jeff Moore:

Yaay! It worked!
Avatar 3:02pm AnAnonymousParty:

Yeah, we know, you have to wind the machine up first.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm The Oscar:

Whoa-- welcome back Emergency Alert System!
  3:02pm Brendan:

Those EAS dulcet tones...
  3:03pm misterpickles69:

I now feel much safer listening to WFMU.
Avatar 3:03pm Irwin:

Wasn't taking any chances on the ID. Now I can apply that duplicate to the 4pm break.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm listener Rey:

I heard it this time! I ducked under my desk anyway
  3:03pm Brendan:

That remind us that we’re all going to die. Sometime.
Avatar 3:05pm Irwin:

How would you rate my EAS presentation. Convincing? Irreverent? Laden with gravitas?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm rrg:

All of the above.
Avatar 3:07pm Hoboken Jack:

Hello Irwin, Ron, Bronwyn, Ronwin, whoever!
Avatar 3:07pm Jeff Moore:

Is "gravitas" a synonym for "snark"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm rrg:

Howdy Mr. Jack and Ms. Bronwyn and Mr. Irwin, and, gosh, just everybody!
Avatar 3:11pm Snortley:

Long-time counterculture DJ Bob Fass having troubles, again:

Avatar 3:12pm Snortley:

If anyone would like to help:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm Parq:

Wasn't Bob Fass on FMU at some point? I remember that, when I started listening in 1979, there was a BAI staffer who had an FMU show, possibly on Sunday afternoon.
Avatar 3:19pm Irwin:

Yep, that was Fass.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm BronwynB:

hey jack :)
Avatar 3:20pm Wild Neil||Peace All:

C'mon, that's not REALLY the Beatles, is it??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm melinda:

hi Irwin and all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm rrg:

@Wild Neil: en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar 3:23pm Irwin:

Yes, all four Beatles were on that recording.
Avatar 3:23pm Irwin:

Even the dead ones.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm Parq:

That is a very cool idea.
Avatar 3:24pm Wild Neil||Peace All:

The Beatles never broke up!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm Parq:

Irwin, that would mean Fass was either just before or just after Kelly. *That* must have been something to see.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm listener Rey:

but was the 5th Beatle Bernard Purdie on that track?
Avatar 3:27pm Irwin:

That was something to inhale.
Avatar 3:28pm Irwin:

Fass was the stonedest WFMU DJ I've ever witnessed. And that's a very ... er, high bar.
Avatar 3:30pm Irwin:

Rey: Pretty claimed he played drums on the entire Chemistry album. Hung a big sign in the studio: PURDIE AT WORK.
Avatar 3:31pm Wild Neil||Peace All:

Bushman's Revenge is EPIC.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm listener Rey:

Purdie was also the deejay, the turntable and every doggone thing!
Avatar 3:31pm AnAnonymousParty:

More like this please, thanks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm analogmuff:

Good Evening from Vienna to all! Thanks for the great show and btw I am wondering if austrian radio emergency signals even exist and if so, will they sound so bad ass as yours?
  3:34pm flashbazbo:

Purdue was the first Beatle Everybody else is tied for fifth
  3:34pm large panties:

Wow , Courtney sounds awake on this tune , which is rare .
  3:35pm flashbazbo:

  3:37pm exile-on-hicks-st:

I liked that a lot - it was like Stereolab went on a Kinks/Faces bender.
Avatar 3:47pm Wild Neil||Peace All:

@Analogmuff-do you have big old basements designated with Civil Defense structures (in case of nuclear war) like we do here? I think the YMCA in Lockport is designated one near me, in Lockport NY. en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar 3:50pm Itzall Ablurr:

Courtney Barnett release date- May 18th.
Avatar 3:52pm leylou:

third time in two days, tuning in to wfmu saves my sanity from a hellish outside world, with one (beautiful) tune. Thank you!
Avatar 3:52pm Wild Neil||Peace All:

A Neil Young comedy album? What's next, Jerry Seinfeld plays bluegrass??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm Parq:

Ya made me look. Actually, it looks like I missed a pretty good show. Gonna have to check the archive.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm analogmuff:

@wildneil not a single one I know of. There is a similar program I think, it is called the Zivilschutz, but they merely just send alarm signals to the public in case of a nuclear fall out, like in 1987 with chernobyl. Here in Vienna we have three old Nazi Bunkers spread over the City, called the Flaktürme de.wikipedia.org... the only reason they exist till today is that absolutely nobody has a clue how to destory these things. But for 2 mio people it will be pretty crammed inside.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm listener Rey:

Thanks Irwin for hipping me to The Clientele. One of the few contemporary bands I listen to consistently
  4:04pm Laura L:

How many other songs do you think there are with "creosote" in the lyrics?
Avatar 4:07pm Irwin:

Not too many with turpentine or kerosene either.
  4:11pm prudy:

Irwin, what do you think of Wilson's recent release?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm Parq:

"Plane Wreck at Los Gatos", popularly known as "Deportee", mentions creosote.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm rrg:

Several more that mention creosote:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm rrg:

I love living here in the future where we can answer questions like that with ease.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm rrg:

turpentine: www.lyrics.com...
kerosene: www.lyrics.com...
  4:27pm Dan:

Is this Hope Sandoval backed by Chris Isaak's band?
  4:30pm Laura L:

And of course there's Courtney B. with her pseudoephedrine--any other songs featuring that?
Avatar 4:30pm Irwin:

prudy: haven't heard it. recommended?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm rrg:

LL: There's a Lorde song (Writer in the Dark) that mentions pseudoephedrine: www.lyrics.com...
  4:35pm Laura L:

Thanks--fun facts to know & tell!
  4:37pm berbo:

What about "Me and Bobby McGee":
"windshields filled with turpentine"
  4:37pm brainiac:

Right, this isn't not incorrect. Technically speaking.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm Little Danny:

Is Jerry Soyka using a mellotron?
  4:39pm flashbazbo:

berbo: "and we sang all the elements of the periodoc table that driver knew"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm tom from Glasgow:

bearded longhair, sandals, 12 "lost years" in the wilderness, hung out with a bunch of burn-outs and weirdos. Jesus was too a hippy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm Passaic River Blues:

Interesting Jerry's sole quibble with labeling Jesus as a hippie is the implication that Christ wasn't a snappy dresser. That's it. Lovely and insane.
  4:41pm MayJillar:

The Mellbays!!!!!!
  4:43pm brainiac:

Don't give me any goddamn adverbs, you dirty hippy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm Parq:

My kid went to that rarest of entities, a left-leaning Christian summer camp. She and her friends used to call it "Jesus-is-a-hippie camp".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm melinda:

"all the socials" haha
  4:48pm flashbazbo:

When I was in grade school we not only had fire drills but also air raid drills. I say that not to admit to being old, but that there are weird holdovers that last decades for human behavior. We had a religious instruction period, ONCE, and it never happened again. I think there was a complaint. I don't know if there was a supreme court ruling on it, but it was gone.
  4:49pm brainiac:

So no Stan, I'm guessing.
Avatar 4:57pm Itzall Ablurr:

Hah! Mis-read that as "HALF of the sacred cow". Oh the mirth.
  5:04pm Jeff, the Butterman:

Are we done with Joe Frank since his unfortunate passing? I've managed to miss any mention or news of this?
Avatar 5:07pm Irwin:

Yes, no more Joe. But not by choice. No further info.
  5:10pm Jeff, the Butterman:

Obviously not by choice, Irwin. Well, it has been amazing listening to him over the years thanks to you. You're wonderful. Thanks.
Avatar 5:12pm Fredericks:

Loving the strings!
Avatar 5:13pm Fredericks:

rrg: I couldn't find the Bottle Rockets on your Kerosene list. W.T.F.?
  5:16pm prudy:

Irwin- haven't heard Wilson's latest either but a friend was greatly disappointed.
Avatar 5:20pm Fredericks:

This Liston Smith brings to mind Alice Coltrane.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm tom from Glasgow:

wonderful set
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm rrg:

@Fredericks: lyrics.com doesn't have that, certainly an oversight. But other lyrics sites (genius.com, Musixmatch) do have that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35pm Passaic River Blues:

The Smith + Lin dyad was perfection.
Avatar 5:36pm Irwin:

An elegant set. Very unusual 'round these parts.
  5:40pm spleeng:

Lovin' the show, man. Thank you. "Still Not a Glass Fan"
Avatar 5:50pm Linda Lee:

what a pretty Springfield cover!
  5:52pm brainiac:

Enjoyed the subtle Neil Young theme. Thanks, Irwin.
  5:59pm Rudy:

Thank you Irwin, I'm a millennial who just got into a job training program this week after having spent my whole adult life being a student slacker, and this was exactly the music I needed before I go to bed.
Avatar 5:59pm Listening Out There:

Just in time. Whew...
Avatar 6:01pm Linda Lee:

good work Andy! :-D
