Postwar atmospherica. High bop modernism and Afro-Latin sounds, twilight exotica and soundtrack moods, soul stompers and weepers, hypnotic R&B and blues, mystical '60s pop, lonely country, lonelier rock 'n' roll, instrumental weirdness, electronic creaking. Bringing worlds beyond into the worlds at hand.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03pm coelacanth∅:

  10:03pm still b/p:

...making it a propitious occasion.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04pm coelacanth∅:

Avatar 10:05pm Little Danny:

Flash, coel, still b/p! We are begining
Avatar 10:06pm TDK60:

Good evening. 45 RPMs, get out your spindle mojos... // wow, love fuzzy organ.
Avatar 10:06pm geezerette:

Smooth ride.
Avatar 10:09pm geezerette:

My favorite neighborhood bar.
Avatar 10:10pm Flash Strap:

that dee dee was monstrous, damn
Avatar 10:11pm Little Danny:

TDK60! Never enough 45s here. Only Rex and FineWine play more than I, methinks.
Avatar 10:11pm Little Danny:

Geez! Glad you could make it to the next party
Avatar 10:12pm geezerette:

This sounds like Ray Charles phrasing.
Avatar 10:12pm Little Danny:

@Flash: I knew you'd be diggin' the Dee Dee
Avatar 10:13pm Little Danny:

@geez: You have correctly identified it!
Avatar 10:17pm geezerette:

Thanks, Danny. Was imagining her in the shades.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19pm chresti:

Wow! is right!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19pm melinda:

hi all
Avatar 10:20pm geezerette:

This record wears the shades.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21pm chresti:

And it's smoking
Avatar 10:23pm Little Danny:

Hi Chresti, hi Melinda!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27pm melinda:

I like hearing Kenneth Patchen.
Avatar 10:29pm Flash Strap:

that Patchen blew my wig off
Avatar 10:31pm geezerette:

Hey, Coel,Melinda,chresti!
Another Patchen fan here. :)
Avatar 10:32pm northguineahills:

dropping in, finally!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34pm melinda:

hi geeze!
Avatar 10:35pm geezerette:

Howdy! :)
Avatar 10:36pm Dano59:

I'm here, listening, loving it (esp the crime jazz) but largely lurking - got some issues with the devices tonight. Will stay tuned in as long as I can ...
PS I have that Dee Dee Sharp album!
Avatar 10:40pm TDK60:

Kenneth Patchen, influence to the Beats. Last night on Larry's Testify show we heard some Bob Dorough and discussed connection to Ferlinghetti, talked @ Snyder, Ginsberg, etc.
Avatar 10:42pm Dano59:

I met Bob Dorough once, real nice guy. We also did a lengthy interview before that, for a School House Rock Live! show coming to town (as he did) about 20 yrs ago
Avatar 10:44pm geezerette:

TDK60,Danno59: that was all so good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45pm chresti:

Avatar 10:45pm Kris Holmes:

The Koala has some attitude
Avatar 10:46pm northguineahills:

Labbing it in Stereo!!!
Avatar 10:46pm Little Danny:

Ennnnnnnn Geee Eighch!
Avatar 10:47pm Little Danny:

Heeyyyy Dano! that's awesome - what happened to that interview?
Avatar 10:47pm geezerette:

If The Byrds were punk, The Koala.
Avatar 10:48pm northguineahills:

I actually have "Peng!" signed by Laetitia Sadier. (I was 20, the only autograph I've ever asked for.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48pm coelacanth∅:

very nice, stereolab.
Avatar 10:48pm Little Danny:

Oh shit, hi Kris! Yes, the Koala is quite an underappreciated and ahead-of-its-time LP
Avatar 10:48pm Kris Holmes:

new to me
Avatar 10:49pm TDK60:

It was a fine day when a friend turned me onto Stereolab circa '95; the band made me younger in the '90s (I was older); love their early droney stuff like this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49pm melinda:

Sounds a bit different from the Stereolab I know but I like it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49pm coelacanth∅:

i've been in the kitchen, unpacking groceries and eating and talking and missing so, so much.
Avatar 10:53pm Kris Holmes:

have not heard Tally Ho in too long, great track
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm JtotheK:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm coelacanth∅:

me neither. my grandma used to say it, with only a hint of jest.
Avatar 10:56pm northguineahills:

@melinda: I have Stereolab's whole catalogue. I may have got bit obsessive at some point. Heck, I got coffee w/ Tim, Laetitia, Mary, and Morghane before that same life changing show aforementioned. Also, sitting down w/ them, the first time I tried alcohol. (bartender was pushing negra modelo on me and my friend, and, we went, sure, why not)(my friend was 19 at the time)
Avatar 11:01pm Kris Holmes:

iconic esther phillips track
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01pm coelacanth∅:

damn, Esther left us far too soon.
Avatar 11:01pm Little Danny:

Jason! Just in time for the Esther Phillips
Avatar 11:02pm Little Danny:

Iconic problematic wedding DJ jam in your case, too, amirite Kris?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04pm JtotheK:

and just in time for clydie king! (tony/lynn was pretty cool!)
Avatar 11:04pm geezerette:

What a sound! All that depth.
Avatar 11:05pm Little Danny:

Wow, that's awesome NGH! But wait how old were you when you sat down with Stereolab and alcohol? Big day all around
Avatar 11:05pm Dano59:

I know a musician who claims on at least 3 occasions of wedding gigs the happy couple requested he play 'Your Cheatin' Heart'
Avatar 11:06pm Kris Holmes:

Ha. Yep. Lucky I was not the one who played it though
Avatar 11:06pm TDK60:

Melinda Stereolab 2nd album: "Transient Random-Noise Bursts with Announcements" a fave -loud noisy, drone, a rush!
Avatar 11:07pm Little Danny:

Amazing, Dano59. We could put together hours of inappropriate wedding jams
Avatar 11:07pm Dano59:

As for my Dorough interview, I did a lot of phoners for my newspaper gig in those days. I'll have to see if the article shows up on the Wayback Machine. I may have the print copy. Bob lived about 2 hours away near the Delaware Water Gap so he drove up cos he wanted to bring his granddaughter to as many shows on the tour as he could.
Avatar 11:07pm northguineahills:

The Flash must of come in....
Avatar 11:08pm Dano59:

I think I have a future show theme -- 'If Loving You is Wrong ...'
Avatar 11:09pm TDK60:

Little Danny: Yes.. "Now folks, here's that great tune: You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling."
  11:09pm still b/p:

That was a gift, I favorited it, but it didn’t say Christmas magic t’me at all.
Avatar 11:10pm northguineahills:

@LD: I was 20. I had done other green things, and low pH tabs, and maybe some equis (as said en espanol), but until then, I was anti-alcohol, believe it or not.
Avatar 11:10pm Dano59:

TDK - The Thrill is Gone!
Costello's I Want You!
I Knew the Bride ... even
Avatar 11:12pm Dano59:

I love me some Bebel ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13pm coelacanth∅:

Avatar 11:13pm TDK60:

for transparency: once played in band that often did weddings. '50s rock, '60s soul, oldies (at least you got a meal)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15pm chresti:

I've heard that descending sound in snowfall used in other tunes
Avatar 11:15pm TDK60:

any tune covered from "Black Orpheus" has to be ok at least.
Avatar 11:15pm northguineahills:

I have quite a of bit of Bebel and Astrud on wax....

Never Heard this Les Baxter album.
Avatar 11:18pm northguineahills:

Gotta clean, will be away for a bit!
Avatar 11:21pm Dano59:

I need at least as many Bebel and Astrud albums as I have Julie London and Petula Clark albums
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24pm chresti:

I want to crank the organ up on you and I
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26pm coelacanth∅:

this reminds me of the assponys song in which he's Thankful for the simple things...like waking up in the morning with no bones protruding through his skin...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33pm melinda:

@Dano did you hear Gaylord will be interviewing Petula Clark this Sunday?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37pm coelacanth∅:

it's odd but when it's an accordian speaking french i understand it just fine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39pm coelacanth∅:

in fact i suddenly seem to be able to comprehend many languages i didn't think i knew.
Avatar 11:40pm Little Danny:

Hahaha Coel! The universal language of accordian
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm JtotheK:

apparently now i have to pay attention to george shearing 45s when i see them (at least if 'mambo' is in the title) ...
Avatar 11:52pm Little Danny:

@Jason: Yes, exactly! His Latin jazz records are top notch
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00am coelacanth∅:

Brilliant Danny!
tchau camaradas
Avatar 12:07am Little Danny:

Thanks coel! And thanks errbody! Luv and g'night! See y'all around!
