Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57am joe:

I know this maybe totally out of the blue but Live Nation is doing their 20 dollar no service fee sales as of this morning. Some of the stuff that looks like it is pretty readily available in all states is the Lucinda Williams/Steve Earle/ Dwight Yoakum tour and the Willie Nelson Outlaw festival as well as some other stuff. Just a heads up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59am crateslinger:

I used to love April Wine so much. Still sounds pretty good to my redneck white trash ass.
Avatar 9:59am Joe McG:

Thanks for the tip, Joe, as I "extend" this musical joke.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59am karlward:

Someone tell me that Jeff Lynne produced April Wine.
Avatar 10:00am PKNY:

Before today, I thought the most brilliant thing April Wine did was simultaneous play the "Day Tripper" and "Satisfaction" riffs in the middle of "I Like To Rock". I stand corrected.
  10:00am KP in DC:

Oy vey
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01am Vincent Nifigance:

If You See Kay = "F U C K"? Is it just me?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01am joe:

@Joe McG I applude your musical joke
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01am The Oscar:

Now, are you a bad enough dude to play "King of Fuh?"
  10:01am JakeGould:

For some reason, this “April Wine” reminds me of “The Sure Thing.” Watched it for the first time since… Whenever… And you know what? It’s not a bad movie but man, John Cusack was not good in it.

@VincentNifigance: See you next Tuesday!

@TheLonlietsMonk Kids!
Avatar 10:03am Joe McG:

@Krys O: Oh, I didn't know! I love his albums with brother Gary. I'll play a couple next week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03am crateslinger:

My favorite April Wine trope is the song, "Just between you and me". He's literally telling her not to tell anybody they're going out and making it sound romantic. Just what every girl wants to hear. O, and he says it in French one time. "Seulement entre toi et moi", has same number of syllables.
Avatar 10:03am Joe McG:

I won't be playing that Lucifer song, either!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04am The Oscar:

@Monk I remember when that song came out thinking it was a semi-clever joke, but being annoyed she didn't follow through with the double-entendre. Now I know she wasn't even being original!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04am Vincent Nifigance:

This is amazing.
  10:06am queems:

haha; that speed sounded good
Avatar 10:13am Chris from DC:

I kind of like the 45 version.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13am joe:

That was incredible at the wrong speed. It sounded like a roller skating raga
Avatar 10:13am Stashu:

This is tubular tubes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13am steveo:

i guess the real speed is better... hmm, can you play the first way one more time after this?
Avatar 10:14am Stashu:

Greetings from the city that never sheeps.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14am The Oscar:

As a teenager I used to buy easy listening records with funny covers, and if (when) they turned out to be boring I'd just bump them up to 45. They mostly sounded great!
  10:14am JakeGould:

Hey Stashu!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14am Krys O.:

Thanks, Joe. The Earl Scruggs Revue was cool, too. Stevie toured with them and Jody Maphis, son of Joe, was also in the band. Stevie and his friends went to school with Gary and Randy in Madison, TN.
  10:15am queems:

this is great. though i also enjoyed it fast
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15am steveo:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22am The Oscar:

@crateslinger I think you're right! It's been far too long since I revisited that show.
  10:22am JakeGould:

@TheOscar: Yeah, he’s more known as just a comedian in general.
Avatar 10:23am Fashion Tashjian:

I dunno if I love or hate this bass tone. Must listen to more Invisible Girls.
  10:23am JakeGould:

@βrian: That would probably break after a day and then be a part of the adoption gallery. What WFMU needs is a second, smaller elevator. Maybe on the outside of a building. A dumbwaiter if you will,

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28am karlward:

Joe, lately your show has been making me realize similarities between artists in this strange, free form way. I never thought of this as heavy Dylan, but now I can't help but hear that. Or last week when I realized that some Aerosmith sounds like The Band. Also, "Romeo and Juliet" is a flawless song.
  10:28am Fletcher:

Amy Ray used to do such a beautiful version of this in the very early Indigo Girls days.
  10:28am duane:

i used to tape alexie sayles stuff on public tv, it was a sketch comedy show starring him

Avatar 10:39am Wild Neil||Peace All:

The Young Ones=Epic memories of the late 80's. Motorhead playing Ace of Spades.
Avatar 10:40am βrian:

Even an organ duo is hard to conceive of. You'd need side-by-side cathedrals.
Avatar 10:40am Joe McG:

  10:46am melinda:

Dire Straits reminds me, everyone should check out the Walk of Life project. This guy decided the song was the perfect music to end any movie and did so with a bunch of different ones, it's hilarious.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46am fleep:

The Young Ones included musical numbers because a 'variety' show got a bigger budget from the BBC than a 'comedy'. That's what gave us Motorhead and Madness and Amazulu.
  10:46am TimBk:

Completely agree Joe, its hard to jive that guy with the guy who write one of the more beautiful love songs... Beyond the lyrics its just a really bad song as well.

Avatar 11:05am βrian:

Did that pronunciation come from Fiona Ritchie?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05am The Oscar:

The record literally yells at you to flip it over!
Avatar 11:06am βrian:

Though it was more like "chewn."
Avatar 11:07am northguineahills:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10am joe:

I would pray to the Leslie cabinet if someone wanted to create a religion to the Organ
  11:11am queems:

for a minute i thought they were all going to be on hammond organ and i got psyched
  11:11am queems:

but now i’m psyched anyway because this is amazing
Avatar 11:12am Brian in UK:

Hey Joe, did they not play the Lowery organ on site? Still remember Richard Youngs playing it on Dan Bodah's show.
Avatar 11:12am βrian:

The modern miracle of the pipeless organ!
  11:12am melinda:

@queems that was what I first imagined too, haha
Avatar 11:12am Wild Neil||Peace All:

This is pretty F'ing righteous. Choon, man. Hey, The Young Ones is all over Youtube, guess what I am watching for lunch!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am steveo:

chair dancing like mad
Avatar 11:13am Joe McG:

@Brian: No, Brian, Delvon is a Hammond guy all the way. Plus there are two bum keys on the Lowery at the moment. :(
Avatar 11:14am Wild Neil||Peace All:

This is like Rockford Files music. In the BEST possible way!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15am maestroso:

Digging this Hammond funk.
Avatar 11:16am Davee:

Loving this, sounds like the Roaming Gabriels
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16am Matt Fiveash:

Man, these guys are great! And god bless Scott K, the sound is amazing.
  11:18am queems:

@melinda can you imagine what that would have sounded like lordddd
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20am joe:

Scott K is an artist this sounds amazing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20am maestroso:

I remember back before Monty Hall, someone brought in a Hammond and they had to stand it up on end to get it in the lift. I think it was on Joe Belock's show.
Avatar 11:24am ManhattanMike:

I thought this was a studio recording I was listening to til a minute ago
Avatar 11:25am KP:

Foot pedals or a bass keyboard, i wonder.
Avatar 11:25am βrian:

This guitar has that nice railcar sway to it.
Avatar 11:25am Joe McG:

@maestro: It might have fit if we tried that, but it was already outfitted with a rig and poles to move it around. @Manhattan: Yes, our Scott K is a heckuva engineer. The band is great to begin with, and then he really caught them beautifully.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26am maestroso:

@KP probably both I wager.
Avatar 11:26am Joe McG:

@KP: Devon played all the bass with his feet.
  11:27am queems:

this sounds absolutely amazing
Avatar 11:29am Joe McG:

I'll try to get this up on the FMA by next week, minus the cover tunes of course. Like this one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30am Itzall Ablurr:

This set makes me super-appreciative of "our" hometown favorite, Ike Stubblefield who plays w/his combo every Wed. night in walking distance of my house. Same deep funk/chill vibe, could listen to this all day. Thanks Joe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32am Itzall Ablurr:

I invite one and all to hit up the YouTubes and see what I mean. LATER, of course.
Avatar 11:33am βrian:

Our local was the other Stubblefield guy, but he's gone now.
Avatar 11:34am Joe McG:

Speaking of Stubblefield...

Big thanks to Delvon and crew for being so generous with their time. First time playing in New Jersey ever and they played a 45-minute set!

This is their last tune. Man, it's been great to bring this to you! Wish you could have all been in the room. They packed a punch!
