Good afternoon Tony and all. What was that "Est tu" about? Corsican?
Avatar 12:07pm
Tony Coulter:

Forgot to mention: Lord W (on now) is a Vittore Baroni / Trax–related project.

Hello, sensational people!
Avatar 12:09pm
Tony Coulter:

Heya, Fred! and Yvang!
Avatar 12:11pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Fred: er, I guess I meant to type "et tu?"
Avatar 12:12pm
Tony Coulter:

Hard to believe I was once fairly conversant in French.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm
fred:

@Tony: If you meant that to be in mainland French, try "et toi?"
Avatar 12:17pm
Tony Coulter:

Righto. Jeez.

Mark Williams:

that Harrison et al was beautiful. Hey Tony. Ca-va?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm

I know that feeling, my French is getting worse every year, to the point that it's an employment issue by now
Avatar 12:21pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Mark: Bien sûr ! Et toi?
Avatar 12:25pm
Tony Coulter:

or, let me try this: Oui, ça va. Et toi?

By the way, this cassette comes with tons of artwork, as can be seen here: www.discogs.com...

Moo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm
fred:

"Est" means "is", "et" means "and". So you want to use "et toi" instead of "est toi", unless you're going existential, which would be French enough come to think of it
Avatar 12:39pm
Tony Coulter:

Thanks, Fred: Corrected already. I plead typo on that one, as I am also writing out the playlist. Still, I hang my head in shame.
Avatar 12:40pm
Tony Coulter:

Ike! Woof!
  12:44pm

"Et" also means you've already had lunch.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm
fred:

Man, shame can't come near you. Your support meant a lot to my friend Charlotte (aka Charlene Darling), so I'll always be in debt to you for being there when not many were
Avatar 12:49pm
Tony Coulter:

Ah yes, the great Charlene Darling. Tell her to send me more stuff. It's been years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm
fred:

@Tony: She's writing her PhD thesis... On the plus side, expect an outburst of creativity once she's done
Avatar 12:56pm
Tony Coulter:

The Twins (just on) released two great cassettes, and one great LP, after joining forces with Rig Veeda: www.discogs.com...
Avatar 12:59pm
Tony Coulter:

The Die Form on now is *not* the better-known French group of the same name -- it's the Italian Die Form.
Avatar 1:06pm
Tony Coulter:

I've had this comp for years (decades!), but still know nothing about The London Different Kings, even though I quite like this track. Anyone know anything about 'em?

Just back from Times Square, which is a zoo today, as you can well imagine. I like to go and watch everyone ignore the Max Neuhaus sound installation.
Avatar 1:20pm
Tony Coulter:

La STPO (on now) = La Société des Timides à la Parade des Oiseaux
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm
steveo:

The STPO sounds like times square, but also with a few non-timides, mostly dressed as Elmo.
Avatar 1:22pm
Tony Coulter:

Ha! Is the Naked Cowboy still making the scene?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm
fred:

@Steveo: I always wondered how far Elmo impersonators were from Eno impersonators
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm
steveo:

i thought about asking the naked cowboy how much for a performance of billie jean a few weeks ago, but i didn't see him today
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm
steveo:

fred: diametrically opposed
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm

Now that there is a Ken impersonator, I guess this is all scrambled: www.wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm
Rich in Washington:

Tickle Me Eno has over 10,000 possible response modes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm
fred:

I wonder what the people who made these tapes did later
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm
steveo:

i was checking out Ken's biceps on Sunday at the record fair to determine if that could possibly be him. result: undetermined, but not beyond the realm of possibilities
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm
Jeff Golick:

"Go outside and shut the door and tickle me."
Avatar 1:33pm
Tony Coulter:

Oops -- it's, DENIER Du Culte, not DERNIER, as I just mistakenly said on mic
Avatar 1:33pm
Tony Coulter:

Heya, Rich!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm
Rich in Washington:

This is interesting stuff, Tony!
Avatar 1:35pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Fred: Some of these folks are still quite active, including DDAA, who put the comp together.
Avatar 1:36pm
Tony Coulter:

Also still quite active: STPO ... who are on now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm
fred:

@Tony: thanks, that's great news
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm
fred:

I'm not on Facebook, so it's hard to get news about alternative bands
Avatar 1:43pm
Tony Coulter:

Funny you say that: I'm FB "friends" with both DDAA and STPO.
  1:43pm
Dean:

Nothing showing up in music literature about The London Different Kings. Curiously, though, the group's contact information on the packaging might provide a lead. Adrian Ortiz lived in Chicago at the time the tape was produced. In 2010, an ESL instructor at UIC, an Adrian Ortiz, was in the news for having been busted for growing pot in his house on South Exchange, not too far from the contact address. In 2010, Ortiz was 45, which means he would have been 20 when the tape was produced. Not an uncommon name, to be sure, but maybe?
Avatar 1:44pm
Tony Coulter:

Maybe! If so, hope they've sprung him by now.
Avatar 1:47pm
Tony Coulter:

Despite what discogs says, the Maddy Genets on now is *not* this band: www.discogs.com...
Avatar 1:47pm
Tony Coulter:

It's an offshoot of Hellebore
  1:49pm
Dean:

Three years probation, fees, costs, 50 hours community service.
Avatar 1:51pm
Tony Coulter:

By the way, the other (real) Maddy Genets' band photo is worth a gander: www.discogs.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm
fred:

It's not that I despise faceboook. It's just that I don't think I have anything to bring to the conversation. I know I miss shows, but I don't want to add more useless crap, there's a steady supply of that
Avatar 1:53pm
Tony Coulter:

I don't have anything to bring to the conversation either -- but that doesn't stop me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm
steveo:

if that's it (rather than some ideological objection, etc.) it's quite possible to just lurk for band news. you'd probably even get away with yousing a fake name (wow, that's a bizarre typo/braino, I think I'll keep it as documentation for the pathologists)
  1:56pm
Dean:

I have almost two billion FB accounts, all under fake names.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm
steveo:

cool can you get them to all like my insurance sales business?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm
steveo:

i like this rut
  1:58pm
Dean:

I'm sure that can be arranged.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01pm
fred:

If you can get something out of it, whatever it is, sure, get it while you can
Avatar 2:03pm
Tony Coulter:

Talking about typos, this Atem Ten Too cut is listed as "Jungle Drean" ... I'm assuming that's a mistake!
Avatar 2:06pm
Tony Coulter:

Similarly, "Citoyeus" (above) may really be "Citoyens" -- but there I'm going with what I see.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm
fred:

Jungle Dean would be a sad premonition, so I vote for the mistake
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm
Sem:

Head down in work, but diggin' the Hiss, TC. Thanks.

btw: not on Facebook either, still running away from convention.
  2:09pm
Dean:

Maybe a pun on "citizens" and "eyes"?
Avatar 2:09pm
Tony Coulter:

I am on FB (as I already made clear), but I don't have a cellphone ... which is my way of maintaining some autonomy.
  2:10pm
Mark Williams:

whenever I think I have it down when it's Bene Gesserit vs Human Flesh vs Subject, etc, they throw me off with one. This sounds like something Neffe would've put out under the Subject moniker, don't you think Tony?
  2:11pm
dj_damoncreed:

Bene Gesserit working Pere Ubu's Life Stinks vibe a bit there.
  2:12pm
Dean:

I have a cellphone, a flip phone at least a dozen years old, and it's a fucking waste of time and money. "Upgrading" to a so-called smart phone would be a fucking greater waste.
Avatar 2:12pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Mark: Well, Nadine is pretty discreet on that track, for one thing.
Avatar 2:12pm
Tony Coulter:

Hiya, dj_damoncreed!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm
fred:

I don't have a cell phone, yet. I'll have to get one to renew my ID card though, Macron needs his cut
  2:17pm
dj_damoncreed:

Hello Tony. h/t to Mark for pointing me to today's show. Forgot how good this compilation is. Surprisingly, no cuts from DDAA.
Avatar 2:18pm
Tony Coulter:

Yes, that is modest of them, isn't it!
Avatar 2:20pm
Tony Coulter:

I think this comp does an unusually good job of bridging and integrating the quite different European and U.S. cassette underground scenes of the day.
  2:21pm
Dean:

I do have a food mill. It is not a waste of time.
Avatar 2:43pm
Tony Coulter:

Instead of = Stephan Barbery, who was in Digital Dance and Snowy Red, and several other Belgian groups
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm
steveo:

great tapes, tony; i don't think the title's an overstatement
Avatar 2:45pm
Tony Coulter:

Glad you like it, Steveo! I'm sure this thing would be fairly well known if it had been released as a (4LP) vinyl boxset instead of on tape.
Avatar 2:46pm
Tony Coulter:

But, of course, that would have cost an arm and a leg ... and a neck ... and a liver....
  2:53pm
dj_damoncreed:

Same Stephan Barbery, the graphic designer for many PIAS releases?
Avatar 2:54pm
Tony Coulter:

Yes! Same guy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:58pm
