I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

Hi james! I hope your conference trip last weekend was a great one!

Good afternoon Mayuko, james, and everybody

Hallos my radio family fred!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm
listener james from westwood:

It was an absolute blast, thanks! Learned a lot, saw many old friends, made new ones, and visited the Field Museum (natural history) and the Art Institute of Chicago!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm
listener james from westwood:

Was moved to tears when I merely spotted that famous Seurat "La Grande Jatte" painting. Up close it was awe inspiring.
Avatar 12:07pm
Mayuko:

Nice! the Field Museum was I think the first place where I'd ever seen Mold-A-Rama in real.
  12:08pm
rw:

Morning! Yes, it’s always nice when the painting looks better than the reproductions. Not always the case these days.
  12:09pm
rw:

Mold-a-Rama?
Avatar 12:09pm
Mayuko:

oh that's nice too that you saw Seurat! I felt kinda trippy to see all those dots in person when they had his show at the met museum.
Avatar 12:09pm
Mayuko:

Hey rw, happy to have you here!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm
fred:

My previous workplace was right next to La Jatte island (the place, not the painting)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm
listener james from westwood:

Oh holy crow, yes Mold-a-Rama! I and the three copy editors all got elephants, and one of us went to all the others to get the other models. We were giggling like schoolkids!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm
listener james from westwood:

One of our party took a video of a Mold-a-Rama creation cycle: twitter.com...
  12:12pm
rw:

Is that the machine that makes souvenirs that melt in the back window of your car?
Avatar 12:12pm
Mayuko:

@rw Mold-A-Rama was like a vending machine that has mold inside and makes some plastic figurines on the spot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm
listener james from westwood:

@Mayuko: it was so emotional. Van Gogh's self-portrait was there as well and it was mind-blowing to be inches from it. But I did not expect to be so moved by the Seurat. Glad you've gotten to see it live too!
@fred: Wow, how cool to be near that site! I now imagine you composed of a series of carefully applied tiny brushstrokes.
  12:14pm
rw:

Yes! I have a dolphin from when I was a kid. Found it in a box at my mom’s house the other day. I think it came from the Brookfield Zoo.
Avatar 12:14pm
Dave B:

I think the mold-a-rama idea was born at the Sinclair exhibit NY Worlds fair 64-65...

Howdy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm
listener james from westwood:

@rw: Yup! I suspect they'd rapidly vaporize under those conditions. Injection-molded plastic + summer car heat = choking cloud of hydrocarbons.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm
listener james from westwood:

@Dave: Correct! The grandson of their creator now services the machines.

@james: my office didn't overlook the island, but the break room nearby did. Now I work in a basement, so there's no view to speak of. My office is below Niki de Saint Phalle sculptures, though
  12:20pm
rw:

Just checked. Brookfield zoo. Must be at least 30 yrs old. Probably more. James, take good care of that elephant!
Avatar 12:21pm
Dave B:

Hello Mayuko!
Avatar 12:21pm
Mayuko:

@james haha! I love that you all got the elephants! I got a couple there too but gave them all to a friend in Japan who had told me about the mold-a-rama in the first place. I think I got another one in sears tower too. Somehow seemed to be wide spread in Chicago for some reason?
Avatar 12:21pm
Mayuko:

@Dave B that world fair in Queens?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm
fred:

That Vivenza track is nice
Avatar 12:22pm
Mayuko:

@rw Brookfield Zoo is in Chicago area too?!?!
Avatar 12:23pm
Dave B:

Yes ma'am. I was there again just the other weekend for an architectural tour.... They have a great display case of memorabilia from both the 64 and 39 worlds fair just before you go in to the giant diorama.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm
listener james from westwood:

@Mayuko: That is true re: their location in/around Chicago; they seem to be a more broadly Midwest thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, Mayuko and vertibots. How was your trip to Florida? This track sounds like a sick jet engine and turbulence (in a good way).
  12:23pm

Yep!

Still listening but I need to put together some breakfast. Have a good weekend everyone! Enjoy the Vertigo!

@fleep I'm glad to have you here!
Avatar 12:28pm
Mayuko:

Hi Ken! I had a great time & bird-watching there in Florida! Though today's show is sounding not influenced at all by the bright sun and beautiful beach and all that, haha.
Avatar 12:30pm
Mayuko:

@Dave B I'm glad they keep on doing what they do at that pavilion. It was fun to work there 2 years ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm

Met many bird friends in Naples and St. Petersburg on my 2012 and 2017 visits. Beautiful striding birds coming right up to human structures in the latter case.

Nardo:

Greetings! Would rather be in Milwaukee at the psych fest today, but this playlist is helping to assuage the pain.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm
fred:

@james: I knew about St Petersburg, but I didn't know there was a Naples in Florida too
Avatar 12:34pm
Dave B:

I'd say they've improved a lot since the last time I was there. I want to go back again soon...
Avatar 12:36pm
Mayuko:

@james Are those places west or east side? would love to go back to Florida for a longer bird-watching stay in that big forest part of it, and for the Disney world.
Avatar 12:38pm
Mayuko:

Hi Nardo! Thanks for tuning in!!!
Avatar 12:40pm
Mayuko:

@Dave B Now I think they should install mold-a-ramas there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm
listener james from westwood:

@Mayuko: Naples and St. Pete are both on the Gulf Coast, on Florida's western side. Naples had at least one nature preserve through which you could walk on boardwalks above the swampy ground, as well as around open lakes. And St. Pete is in a bay configuration, just south of Tampa, but although it's more built up you can still find natural spots offshore or inland.
Orlando, where Disney World is, is more central and inland but is indeed near lots of wooded areas.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm
listener james from westwood:

The WFMUI Record Fair should offer Mold-a-Ramas of various DJs. Who wouldn't want a bust of stream-master Doug Schulkind exerting its calming presence over one's cube?
Avatar 12:44pm
Mayuko:

@james I see. I only got to see Sarasota this time. But still I was able to see a couple of kinds of herons I had only seen in photos before!
Avatar 12:46pm
Mayuko:

Oh yeah! We should have our own Mold-a-ramas! That would be so funny. Every year we can install different DJs molds and make them collectible items.
Avatar 12:46pm
Dave B:

Check out the middle Keys Mayuko. When I was there diving over Easter, there was a whole bunch of birders at the hotel venturing off into some of the smaller islands...
Avatar 12:47pm
Mayuko:

Mold-a-Rama seems to be a good item that could really resonate with WFMU listener type of people...
Avatar 12:47pm
Dave B:

Mould-a-ramas - for some of the musty smelling records.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm
fred:

I think listener northguineahills works in environment restoration in Florida. He could probably recommend places to go for bird watching
Avatar 12:48pm
Mayuko:

@Dave B That sounds great! My questions was what was all that "keys" about for island names.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm
listener james from westwood:

@Dave B: LOL! Station Mgr Ken maintains that the record fair evokes a wave of colds and other respiratory infections b/c of the spores the many crates of musty records emit over 3 days!
Avatar 12:53pm
Dave B:

@Mayuko - Anglicized from the spanish word "cayo" meaning small island

@LJFW - I've developed some sort of hacking cough since visiting the fair last week. I"M CALLING MY LAWYER!!
