Early hellos, Mayuko and all!!
Avatar 11:58am Mayuko:

Hi james! I hope your conference trip last weekend was a great one!
Avatar 12:03pm fred:

Good afternoon Mayuko, james, and everybody
Avatar 12:05pm Mayuko:

Hallos my radio family fred!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm listener james from westwood:

It was an absolute blast, thanks! Learned a lot, saw many old friends, made new ones, and visited the Field Museum (natural history) and the Art Institute of Chicago!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm listener james from westwood:

Was moved to tears when I merely spotted that famous Seurat "La Grande Jatte" painting. Up close it was awe inspiring.
Avatar 12:07pm Mayuko:

Nice! the Field Museum was I think the first place where I'd ever seen Mold-A-Rama in real.
  12:08pm rw:

Morning! Yes, it’s always nice when the painting looks better than the reproductions. Not always the case these days.
  12:09pm rw:

Avatar 12:09pm Mayuko:

oh that's nice too that you saw Seurat! I felt kinda trippy to see all those dots in person when they had his show at the met museum.
Avatar 12:09pm Mayuko:

Hey rw, happy to have you here!!
Avatar 12:10pm fred:

My previous workplace was right next to La Jatte island (the place, not the painting)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm listener james from westwood:

Oh holy crow, yes Mold-a-Rama! I and the three copy editors all got elephants, and one of us went to all the others to get the other models. We were giggling like schoolkids!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm listener james from westwood:

One of our party took a video of a Mold-a-Rama creation cycle: twitter.com...
  12:12pm rw:

Is that the machine that makes souvenirs that melt in the back window of your car?
Avatar 12:12pm Mayuko:

@rw Mold-A-Rama was like a vending machine that has mold inside and makes some plastic figurines on the spot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm listener james from westwood:

@Mayuko: it was so emotional. Van Gogh's self-portrait was there as well and it was mind-blowing to be inches from it. But I did not expect to be so moved by the Seurat. Glad you've gotten to see it live too!
@fred: Wow, how cool to be near that site! I now imagine you composed of a series of carefully applied tiny brushstrokes.
  12:14pm rw:

Yes! I have a dolphin from when I was a kid. Found it in a box at my mom’s house the other day. I think it came from the Brookfield Zoo.
Avatar 12:14pm Dave B:

I think the mold-a-rama idea was born at the Sinclair exhibit NY Worlds fair 64-65...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm listener james from westwood:

@rw: Yup! I suspect they'd rapidly vaporize under those conditions. Injection-molded plastic + summer car heat = choking cloud of hydrocarbons.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm listener james from westwood:

@Dave: Correct! The grandson of their creator now services the machines.
  12:16pm own crabapplesatellite Johnzon:

Good afternoon Cow Dogs
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm fleep:

The Sinclair machine made green dinosaurs, I had one.
Avatar 12:20pm Dave B:

I was only 8 months old or so during the second season of that, but my brother had one that lasted until about 68 or so...

Avatar 12:20pm fred:

@james: my office didn't overlook the island, but the break room nearby did. Now I work in a basement, so there's no view to speak of. My office is below Niki de Saint Phalle sculptures, though
  12:20pm rw:

Just checked. Brookfield zoo. Must be at least 30 yrs old. Probably more. James, take good care of that elephant!
Avatar 12:21pm Dave B:

Hello Mayuko!
Avatar 12:21pm Mayuko:

@james haha! I love that you all got the elephants! I got a couple there too but gave them all to a friend in Japan who had told me about the mold-a-rama in the first place. I think I got another one in sears tower too. Somehow seemed to be wide spread in Chicago for some reason?
Avatar 12:21pm Mayuko:

@Dave B that world fair in Queens?!
Avatar 12:22pm fred:

That Vivenza track is nice
Avatar 12:22pm Mayuko:

@rw Brookfield Zoo is in Chicago area too?!?!
Avatar 12:23pm Dave B:

Yes ma'am. I was there again just the other weekend for an architectural tour.... They have a great display case of memorabilia from both the 64 and 39 worlds fair just before you go in to the giant diorama.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm listener james from westwood:

@Mayuko: That is true re: their location in/around Chicago; they seem to be a more broadly Midwest thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, Mayuko and vertibots. How was your trip to Florida? This track sounds like a sick jet engine and turbulence (in a good way).
  12:23pm rw:

  12:25pm rw:

Still listening but I need to put together some breakfast. Have a good weekend everyone! Enjoy the Vertigo!
Avatar 12:25pm Mayuko:

Good afternoon, Johnzon, thanks fo tuning in! Hellos, fleep!!
  12:26pm rw:

Oh, and thank you Mayuko!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm fleep:

Greetings, Mayuko. This is a not normal Saturday, so I'm here for you!
Avatar 12:26pm Mayuko:

You too, rw!
Avatar 12:26pm Mayuko:

@fleep I'm glad to have you here!
Avatar 12:28pm Mayuko:

Hi Ken! I had a great time & bird-watching there in Florida! Though today's show is sounding not influenced at all by the bright sun and beautiful beach and all that, haha.
Avatar 12:30pm Mayuko:

@Dave B I'm glad they keep on doing what they do at that pavilion. It was fun to work there 2 years ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm listener james from westwood:

Met many bird friends in Naples and St. Petersburg on my 2012 and 2017 visits. Beautiful striding birds coming right up to human structures in the latter case.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm Nardo:

Greetings! Would rather be in Milwaukee at the psych fest today, but this playlist is helping to assuage the pain.
Avatar 12:33pm fred:

@james: I knew about St Petersburg, but I didn't know there was a Naples in Florida too
Avatar 12:34pm Dave B:

I'd say they've improved a lot since the last time I was there. I want to go back again soon...
Avatar 12:36pm Mayuko:

@james Are those places west or east side? would love to go back to Florida for a longer bird-watching stay in that big forest part of it, and for the Disney world.
Avatar 12:38pm Mayuko:

Hi Nardo! Thanks for tuning in!!!
Avatar 12:40pm Mayuko:

@Dave B Now I think they should install mold-a-ramas there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm listener james from westwood:

@Mayuko: Naples and St. Pete are both on the Gulf Coast, on Florida's western side. Naples had at least one nature preserve through which you could walk on boardwalks above the swampy ground, as well as around open lakes. And St. Pete is in a bay configuration, just south of Tampa, but although it's more built up you can still find natural spots offshore or inland.
Orlando, where Disney World is, is more central and inland but is indeed near lots of wooded areas.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm listener james from westwood:

The WFMUI Record Fair should offer Mold-a-Ramas of various DJs. Who wouldn't want a bust of stream-master Doug Schulkind exerting its calming presence over one's cube?
Avatar 12:44pm Mayuko:

@james I see. I only got to see Sarasota this time. But still I was able to see a couple of kinds of herons I had only seen in photos before!
Avatar 12:46pm Mayuko:

Oh yeah! We should have our own Mold-a-ramas! That would be so funny. Every year we can install different DJs molds and make them collectible items.
Avatar 12:46pm Dave B:

Check out the middle Keys Mayuko. When I was there diving over Easter, there was a whole bunch of birders at the hotel venturing off into some of the smaller islands...
Avatar 12:47pm Mayuko:

Mold-a-Rama seems to be a good item that could really resonate with WFMU listener type of people...
Avatar 12:47pm Dave B:

Mould-a-ramas - for some of the musty smelling records.
Avatar 12:47pm fred:

I think listener northguineahills works in environment restoration in Florida. He could probably recommend places to go for bird watching
Avatar 12:48pm Mayuko:

@Dave B That sounds great! My questions was what was all that "keys" about for island names.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm listener james from westwood:

@Dave B: LOL! Station Mgr Ken maintains that the record fair evokes a wave of colds and other respiratory infections b/c of the spores the many crates of musty records emit over 3 days!
Avatar 12:53pm Dave B:

@Mayuko - Anglicized from the spanish word "cayo" meaning small island

@LJFW - I've developed some sort of hacking cough since visiting the fair last week. I"M CALLING MY LAWYER!!
  12:59pm Joe McG:

"Play it fair and play it cool"--words to live by, Mayuko! :)
Avatar 1:06pm Mayuko:

@fred I didn't know he had such a cool job. I definitely will ask him for recommends next time!!!
Avatar 1:07pm Dave B:

No offense - but this almost sounds like Kermit the Frog
  1:07pm rbrt:

gooooooood afternoon
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm Fox:

I was thinking it sounded like the Log Lady.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm fleep:

Has anyone ever seen The Space Lady and Kermit together? Don't think so!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm Doug Schulkind:

Verti GO!
Avatar 1:07pm Mayuko:

Joe McG!!! Glad to have you here!!!!!!!
  1:08pm rbrt:

I loved that beatles song, it's hard to cover a beatles song!
Avatar 1:09pm Dave B:

Laibach did a pretty good cover of it...
Avatar 1:09pm Mayuko:

@Dave B No, actually I totally get that Kermit feel now that you mentioned.
Avatar 1:09pm Mayuko:

Hi rbrt, Fox and DOUG! Thank you for tuning in!!!!
  1:09pm rbrt:

I like kermit lol
Avatar 1:13pm Mayuko:

yah, Space Lady should appear on Sesame street and all the kids must see that.
Avatar 1:13pm Sem:

Hello. Vertigo people, Mayuko, MSW Doug, and all. Late, mowing, suntanning, etc.
Avatar 1:14pm fred:

Doug! Congrats on getting out of school, with a degree
  1:15pm rbrt:

do kids still watch sesame street?
Avatar 1:18pm Dave B:

Artist: The Space Lady
Album: On The Sesame Street Of Dreams
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm Doug Schulkind:

Thank you! I have most of my brain cells and all of my dignity intact!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm Fox:

rbt: They do if they have HBO?
Avatar 1:19pm Mayuko:

Hi Sem! Sounds like you're having an active, nice afternoon! Thanks for tuning in!
  1:20pm rbrt:

fox: sesame street isn't still on pbs???
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm listener james from westwood:

Many congrats, Doug! Still catching up on GTDR archives after a jaunt to Chicago, but glad you're all graduated and such!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm Fox:

rbt: they do, but HBO gets it first now. PBS gets it nine months after it airs, and pays a licensing fee to do so.
  1:24pm rbrt:

fox: oh wow! didn't know that....what has happened to this world
  1:25pm rbrt:

this French song is wonderful :D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I think this is an outstanding happy birthday song.
  1:27pm melinda:

Hi all
Avatar 1:28pm fred:

@rbrt: I think they were Walloons
  1:28pm P-90:

Happy Saturday @ Mayuko and Playmates.
Nice show today! -my first chance to comment.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm listener james from westwood:

Some of the classic cartoons and skits from old Sesame Streets are on YouTube, free of HBO's tendrils. Good pick-me-ups. And you can't beat that old Pointer Sisters pinball music.
  1:29pm tom from Glasgow:

my working day is over and my radio day begins!
Avatar 1:29pm Sem:

Hello from the great white @P-90.
  1:29pm tom from Glasgow:

oh hey, Doug: congratulations!
Avatar 1:30pm Mayuko:

@rbrt Yes! I love Honeymoon Killers!
Avatar 1:30pm Mayuko:

@ken although I have no idea why the hell I'm playing a happy birthday song today. but I'm sure it's someone's birthday today!!
Avatar 1:31pm Mayuko:

Hi melinda! P-90! Thanks for listening!
  1:31pm rbrt:

fred: ahh french speaking but from belgium?...I just learned what a walloon is lol
  1:31pm rbrt:

I'm gonna play that happy birthday song every thursday
Avatar 1:31pm Mayuko:

ah hallos Tom! How you been? happy radio hour to you!
Avatar 1:32pm Mayuko:

re: walloon That's so interesting! never heard it before either.
  1:32pm rbrt:

james: that little pinball montage was my favorite :D
  1:33pm rbrt:

I thought it was a typo for balloon at first :( lol
Avatar 1:33pm fred:

@rbrt: I had to look up what the name was in English, so we both learned something about them today
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm Fox:

I periodically search through youtube for all the Sesame Street skits with Grover and Kermit together. It's Oz and Henson at their best, comedically. So much fun!!
Avatar 1:37pm Mayuko:

@Fox ahh! I love it when Grover visits Kermit as a sales person.
Avatar 1:38pm fred:

Yukihiro Takahashi!
  1:39pm rbrt:

very 80's summer vibe
Avatar 1:41pm Mayuko:

@rbrt YES :))))
  1:43pm rbrt:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm Doug Schulkind:

@Listener James from Westwood
I've been following your travels. Sounds like everything was ACEs.
Avatar 1:45pm fred:

Zoe has played Yukihiro Takahashi a few times
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Grover playing an inept waiter to the businessman are skits I enjoyed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm melinda:

An old favorite and the source of David D's show theme: www.youtube.com...
Avatar 1:47pm Dave B:

I was watching Imamura's "Unagi" last night, and think that might be one for the 2018 Rooftop Movie season. If I can find some, maybe I can serve up some kabayaki
Avatar 1:55pm fred:

Maybe it's Fujino's birthday
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Isn't it Mexico's birthday today? (Cinco de Mayo)
Avatar 1:56pm Sem:

Thanks, @melinda, wondered where DD found that theme :-D
Avatar 1:57pm Dave B:

@KfHP - no. It's Mexican St. Patricks Day
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm tom from Glasgow:

today's birthdays include Adele, Richard E/ Grant, Tammy Wynette, Nellie Bly and Karl Marx
Avatar 1:58pm fred:

Actually, I guessed from the label (Crammed Discs), they don't have a Belgian accent, which isn't that noticeable anyway (and 7 is pronounced set, the p in sept is silent)
Avatar 1:58pm Dave B:

actually - celebration of the defeat of the French, battle of Puebla
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm tom from Glasgow:

thanks Mayuko!
Avatar 1:59pm Sem:

See you and all next time, Mayuko.
  1:59pm rbrt:
