Good stuff on the brokedown podcast JC. So that is what you sound like before midnight

Morning, all.

Thanks for checking out the podcast. That was fun. I sound like shit on Skype!

Kaspar:

What is this blue gatefold you have up on Instagram? Loved the Oregon jamz y’all were playing on the Brokedown Podcast.
Avatar 12:15am
Jeff Conklin:

Curious if we have any new listeners tonight who came from the podcast. Reveal yourselves!

That gatefold is the second Chilliwack album...

Popul Vuh at their most magisterial/processional! Thank you. This is what Swans/Gira aims for/achieves sometimes

Luisa24:

Hi Jeff! Pretty sounds thus far! Does WFMU have cassette players? Just wondering?
Avatar 12:18am
Jeff Conklin:

Yes we have a lovely tape deck in the studio.

This trees! :-)

Hey Jay, I've never heard Swans come within 5k light years of Fricke and Co and to be honest I'm never gonna try to find it!
Avatar 12:21am
jaywbabcock:

Oh there's plenty of places where Swans achieved this but if you're not interested, you're not interested!
  12:21am
Dean:

I'll second that, Jeff. Re: Swans and PV, I mean.
  12:22am

A generational thing, maybe.

Been listening to PV and Swans for 20+ years and trust me, there are concordances

We had a little string of Flying Saucer Attack related songs going on there
Avatar 12:30am
Jeff Conklin:

@Jay: Cool not gonna argue and not saying you're incorrect. I have no interest in ever listening to that band is all.
Avatar 12:34am
Adamsworth:

That FSA cover of Sally Free & Easy is great. I remember they had to do the vinyl version in mono because the stereo separation would make the record skip.
  12:35am
Dean:

I think Jay has a point. I've listened to PV for more than 40 years -- a generation, give or take, longer than his experience. I'm probably older than you, too, Jeff, which complicates things. But I think for my crowd Swans sounded belated from the get-go, a nod to punk, for instance.
  12:38am
Jeff Conklin:

Well at least we’re not talking about 80s Dead. But still.
  12:39am
Dean:

Well, now that you mention them...
Avatar 12:43am

I have been listening to this Louvin Brothers discography cheapo 6 CD set I got for $20 all week. It's so good.
Avatar 12:45am

(re Swans. I guess I'm thinking mainly of the "White Light from the Mouth of Infinity" period, if anyone [other than Jeff, haha] is interested....)

Please share which Swans albums get to PV levels.

NRPS !!! Yay!! Also The Dead did play some hot shows in the 80's, at least that is how I remember it

Hello! Why did I open this page? Now I want to weigh in on the Swans thing. Geeking out about music is so much more fun than working. But... work is more important right now so I'll leave it at that and get back to it. Hello everyone! Enjoying the show!

@jeff: so, where might one find a CD copy of the MV & EE you played earlier? i've been Googling, but to little effect. always nice to hear one of the Ark shows too!
Avatar 1:58am

@dubkitty: Not available on CD. I've urged Matt to put it on Bandcamp. With his blessing maybe I can upload it...

That might well be my favorite Trad, Gras och Stenar / International Harvester jam, soooo good!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm

I love that Sommerlaten jam, too. Sometimes the riff reminds me of the theme of a certain long suite about a mythical railroad terminal that was written a few years later by a couple guys from northern California. Many great versions of that one were played in the 80's, btw.

Listened to this archive on my westward plane ride back from New England. I was at that MV/EE show! It was on the Tufts campus, and me and my then-girlfriend might have been the only non-students there. I remember the Environments jam being really good that night. Now that I know the name it was released under, I definitely need to hunt it down. I actually picked up the CD that Jeff recommended at that show! I agree it's a good toe-dip point.
