Sounds like you've been having the same thing that's put me down the past 3 weeks: parainfluenza B bronchiolitis, a condition usually associated with babies. In my case it triggered my atrial fibrillation, and the treatment reactivated my shingles, so fat-fingered typing with the numbness. Sleeping's been hard with orthopnea -- sucking wind lying down. Can't be on my feet more than about a minute aat a time either, though. Have a lot of work to get back to if I ever can. I can scarcely imagine what it'd've been like had I been in radio, but I was substituted for the last few weeks of the term teaching.

I've been vaccinated for it. The symptoms are in nerves where it activated in 2012, pre-vaccine. At least this time it's only numbness, not pain.

The reason I say bronchiolitis is usually assocated with babies is that I studied it in pediatrics long ago. Although I'm asthmatic, the wheezing I'm familiar with was nothing like the low tone rhonchi this gave on both inspiration and expiration.

I'm leery of antibiotics, but when a good friend bit me on the hand, resulting in infection and swelling to the size of a boxing glove, I went for the antibiotics. Two shots in the glutes and an oral regimen.

@Linda Lee: I once had 10-year old antibiotics during a period w/o health care and got seriously ill. Thankfully, I knew they would help my ailment and worked perfectly (antibiotics just lose potency w/ age). (It's been the only time I've taken antibiotics in 20 years).

The antibiotics are only prophylactic, so unlikely to make you feel better, -Ken. In fact they'll upset your stomach.
