Not to worry. This morning Trouble played a tune by the National Jazz Trio of Scotland. Wasn't jazz. Wasn't "national," nor from Scotland. Might have been a trio, though.

I'll bite, @?. No, I don't think Branca is boring, but there's a reason they call it "drone." Also, sometimes music (or anything) that isn't immediately captivating turns out to be quite rich over time. Alternatively. sometimes arguably objectively boring music--I'm thinking of much of Telemann--turns out to be just the right kind of boring. I'm a huge fan of Telemann, precisely because some of his vast ouevre barely manages to keep my attention without demanding too much of it.

on the gentrification/rental-market scale, DC seems to be an even 10 years behind Brooklyn. I've been using it as an accurate gauge on what's coming here. Williamsburg = Columbia Heights, etc. It's not a perfect match, but it's generally close...

Avatar 👻 5:31pm
Rev. Turnip Druid:

The crucial difference is population diversity: NYC/Bkln still has it over DC. We don't have the same density, so all the diversity is being more fully flushed out. It's all clones of the same five white affluent 32 year-olds. And they're starting to breed.

My parent's saw my house, and remarked how small it is (it is by FL standards), but it's WWII vintage and at 750 sq feet, it seems gigantic for just myself to live in (my brothers live in mcmansions).

i've done some painting for a few people with mcmansions - ZERO soul in those homes, the trim and moulding is cheap tiny clamshell crap ,vaulted ceilings and the sound echoes, the furniture is usually too small for the space, just a shitty deluded self perception of 'having arrived'

Dean .. wouldnt have thought of telemann
.. even if telemann is formula composing
its relaxing at worst ... branca is loud and montonous ..maybe that is hypnotic to some folks ... but i listened to all the punk stuff live in nyc ..loved all of it nearly .. i could not understand the appeal of branca .. but there is a following i guess there is a niche for everyone .. no matter how awful it is .. i mean yoko was a contentious subject ..even the greatful dead had dark star .. fabio's shows are always the best no matter what .. and every one should express what they are .. no matter what .. even trump // thanks for responding

@Rev. - I've been doing a couple DC trips over the last 2 weeks and noticed how spot-on you are about the gentrification time-lag compared to BK. I think the homogeneity is industry-related guessing b/c of political opportunities.

Avatar 5:48pm

Shit, fox, I'm sorry, that sucks. My wife and I nearly broke up after we were both laid off our permanent jobs and she got diagnosed w/ cancer and we had to pay out of pocket (it happened a few weeks after she was laid off). She's fine now, and the stress of being underemployed and broke made me look for new horizons. It took a while, but we've mended our relationship.
