Hello

Neil Diamond related. True story.

Back when he came out w Coming to America I turned on him. Sorry. The wrong people got crazy over that song.

When I watched The Last Waltz w the Band I’d always fast forward through his bits.

In the summer of ‘86 he invited me to the deck of his place in Malibu for a drink and a chat. I was working there. He was being genuinely polite.

And he was. Very nice. Charming. Friendly. BUT. I was a kid. Didn’t know what to say. Had the perfect opener too. Both of us from Brooklyn. How can you go wrong.

But. So nervous. Played it cool. Conversation with him and his buddy or bodyguard stilted. Petered out.

I left. Never had the chance again. Regret a little.

Later on became aware of one lady. Called herself Nellie Diamond. Delivered papers to the property. Was advised that if I let her in to see him my job was toast.

World class stalker. Changed her legal name ffs. Nice enough in person though.

Just. Totally obsessed w him.

Legend had it he took her on a rollercoaster ride as part of a radio promotion when she was a kid.

She got hooked.

Fast forward. Xmas ‘85. She drops a real nice sized package w me to give to Neil Diamond. Ok. Bye!

Swing shift. Overnight guy comes in. Old timer Bill. Odd duck. “Oh no!” He says as he starts tearing it open and we find....

Lots of stuff. Tchotchkes. About a dozen items. Some nice some cheese. All I remember now is the gold Parker pen & pencil set that I still use to this day.

True story.

Glad you played Neil. Good song. As they say a “perfect segué” in FMU parlance.

Caught my attention. Annoyed the bride asking if she liked it too — that she took as changing the subject and then leaving the room.

Double score. Rest of the show perfect as always. Grazie.
