Good welcome, dear Maggie. So much hurt happening all around us. Horrible.

Will try to make things marginally, superficially less horrible for a while.

enjoyed that della reese, thought i'd have to seek out the 45 and then saw that huh, it's the flip of Clock That's Got No Hands ... which I never flipped over. Lesson from Funky16Corners blog I read years ago but forget to always follow - listen to both sides of 45s!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44am Funky16Corners:

@JtotheK - Sometimes you have to go back and reevaluate flipsides you checked out already (as your tastes develop). I've rediscovered tons of cool stuff that way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44am Doug Schulkind:

Speaking of sweet... Mr C's here, y'all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45am Funky16Corners:

I like the Wildwood Flower quote at the beginning of this one!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45am Webhamster Henry:

Me too - WHERE'S THE AUTOHARP?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46am Funky16Corners:

There's a crazy reworking of Wildwood Flower on this Spotlights 45 (Leon Russell-related) www.youtube.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47am Doug Schulkind:

There're about 3-4,000 songs that reference Wildwood Flower. God bless every one of them.
Avatar 🥁 9:47am duke:

This tunes make me want to load up my hound dog into my pickup and drive down to the honky-tonk. Then I remembered I don't have a pickup truck or a dog.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48am Doug Schulkind:

Does my love drive you squirrely?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:48am JtotheK:

@F16C - agreed! i remember reading years ago how a lot of in-demand 45s can be for totally different audiences. for example a 'deep funk' side and a 'sweet soul' side. and while my tastes historically have been on the uptempo sides - i'm starting to flip over and enjoy some of the ballad sides.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49am Doug Schulkind:

@duke
You've still got time! I'll wait.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49am listener Rey:

I love country story-songs like this one by Guy Drake.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:50am JtotheK:

*which then also introduces me to the world of 'northern soul beat ballads' which i know absolutely nothing about ... and i'll then (probably) end up seeking out even more 45s that i'd otherwise overlook.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51am Doug Schulkind:

And the kids would never get this one. "What's a phone booth, Daddy?"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am Doug Schulkind:

'nother story-song coming up, Rey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am Funky16Corners:

@JtotheK - One of 45s that has been on my want list for the longest time is one of those 'divided loyalties' records, with one side for New Orleans soul/funk collectors and the other side for Northern Soulies
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53am Doug Schulkind:

"A smile was all she wore."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53am Funky16Corners:

Which is why it rarely turns up and when it does is prohibitively expensive
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53am Funky16Corners:

BTW I'm digging the wild pedal steel on these tracks

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15am Funky16Corners:

My brother and his family holidayed in Greece last year. It looked amazing. I'm not much of world traveler, but my dream retirement is in one of those whitewashed houses on a sunny hill in the Greek isles.

“When the reds hit the blue zone, the golden years get long.”

Morning! Sounds like Friday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25am Doug Schulkind:

Apparently, there was quite severe starvation on Icaria in the '30s and '40s. Some say the longevity on the island is the simple result of Darwinism.

  10:38am Listener Gregory:

Doug, is this recorded at the Famous Ballroom in Baltimore? I heard some great concerts there when I could peel myself away from the books, though a decade later than this one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41am Doug Schulkind:

@Listener Gregory
This was recorded at the Royal Arms.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42am Doug Schulkind:

This pianist is hot! John Hicks is not a name I'm familiar with.
Avatar 10:48am ausmanx:

hey, brian... TT had its usual casualty count this year?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53am Jeff Golick:

Hicks is great, somewhat unsung. He is on some wonderful Arthur Blythe records, and was also in the David Murray quartet for a time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53am Doug Schulkind:

@Funky16Corners
Hicks was a prolific sideman, but not as much on record.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54am Doug Schulkind:

My final set is packed with some really deeply hurting songs. I am kind of terrified to air it. Feeling very raw at the moment, what with all the assaults to the collective psyche hanging in the air in recent days.

Can we all hold hands during?

There are some wonderful examples of tablets in the Archeology Museum in Istanbul. They are 'taking care' of them; just like those museums in Berlin and London.
Previously I would think that is stealing but with all the troubles in Mesapotamia (Baghdad Museum cleaned out) they have been preserved.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34am Jeff Golick:

With ya, @Doug, and fellow drummers. I believe it's ultimately good to express the hurt -- keeps that pain from only turning inward.
