Hello all! Can anyone ID today's LP-under-the-cassettes? It's an obscure record, but if you know it, it should be fairly easy to recognize.

Happy Tuesday, Tony and all!!

hi tony, hi everyone! my guess on the LP: Lawrence Welk 'Music For Romantic Sunsets Under Palm Trees'
Avatar 12:09pm
Tony Coulter:

Hey, hey, JtotheK! One of these days, I really will use a Lawrence Welk LP.

Bonjour everyone! Hello tout le monde! Nice sunny artwork for such an obscure record...is all I can say.

coelacanth∅:

i don't know that album cover but it's beautiful
Avatar 12:12pm
Tony Coulter:

As I said on mic, Die Form & Nulla Iperreale later merged permanently and became Tasaday. The (not so) real-life Tasaday were a fake "lost tribe": www.livescience.com...
Avatar 12:14pm
Tony Coulter:

Hey, Yvang! Thanks for your discretion -- since you already know what it is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm
coelacanth∅:

it reminds me of "boys don't cry" by the cure

No Tony: to be honest, I actually don't!
Avatar 12:16pm
Tony Coulter:

Aha -- I thought you were being sporting!
Avatar 12:19pm
Tony Coulter:

Well, since it is such an obscure record, I guess I'll just do the big reveal now: It's Dennis Weise's "Valhalla" www.discogs.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm
Jeff Golick:

I guess wrong on the album cover, thinking it might be this one: waiwaimusic.blogspot.com...

Hi, TC and Co.

Tony Coulter:

Heya, Jeff! I guess one vision of paradise is much like another.
Avatar 12:25pm
Tony Coulter:

Love that General Strike album, by the way. It came out only on cassette originally, of course.
Avatar 12:28pm
Tony Coulter:

With a completely different cover: www.discogs.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm
Jeff Golick:

Oh yeah? Only came across it recently, via a reissue.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm
Jeff Golick:

Very cool. And yes, a great record!
Avatar 12:33pm
Tony Coulter:

Would have played the cassette on Tape Hiss long ago if it hadn't been reissued on CD and LP -- that disqualifies it for this show's purposes.
Avatar 12:33pm
Tony Coulter:

And for this show's porpoises.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm
Jeff Golick:

You can almost make out the porpoises behind the bottom two cassettes...
  12:55pm
Dean:

Does that mean playing the CD or LP is reciprocally off limits during the regular shows? Can you provide a copy of the show's bylaws that establish these restrictions? Can we take you to court for a violation, or is there a mandatory arbitration provision hidden among the fine print?
Avatar 1:03pm
Tony Coulter:

Hey, Dean! No, under the bylaws, I *must* play the CD on regular shows -- which in fact I have done. It's been a while, though, so to remain in compliance I will have to play it again soon. The bylaws are posted here: http/gobbledygook
Avatar 1:11pm
Tony Coulter:

or, maybe it should be "Na-eet," as in "naive" ... who knows!
Avatar 1:19pm
Tony Coulter:

The cassette on now is the one on the lower left. The cover is very hard to capture in a photograph -- it's a folded, clear plastic sheet with black letters printed on it.
  1:20pm
Mark Williams:

i have several Geins't Nait records and it's just interesting to me how with their limited means and absent vocals, there is definitely a distinct sound to them that I recognize instantly.
Avatar 1:23pm
Tony Coulter:

Hey, Mark! That's true, for sure. Though their sound is also very varied. The release before this one -- the LP "L'Or'n Cät" -- is pretty different ... though, as you say, distinctly them.
  1:26pm
Mark Williams:

well those that have worked with the technology available back then would know better than I. But apart from approach, they have certain go-to's in how those drums sound and the way they blend in their samples. And sure, the Frenchie thing kinda places them too!
  1:27pm
Mark Williams:

and hi Tony! I'll be 2.5 hrs from Portland from July 4-10. I wish I had time to swing by.
Avatar 1:27pm
Tony Coulter:

Interestingly, one of the core members of Geins't Naït -- Laurent Petitgand -- ended up writing soundtrack music for Wim Wenders films. Quite a change!
Avatar 1:29pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Mark: Well, if you find yourself closer, do get in touch. Us Geins't Naït fans need to stick together.
  1:29pm
Mark Williams:

ha. that we do!
Avatar 1:29pm
Tony Coulter:

PS: The track before this one, kinda sounded like No Unauthorized ... talking of the Frenchie thing.
  1:30pm
Mark Williams:

speaking of Wenders, I just saw Alice in the Cities again for the first time in forever. One musical piece by Can gets repeat play in that. I love that movie.
Avatar 1:33pm
Tony Coulter:

Yes, I think "Alice in the Cities" may be my favorite Wenders movie -- though I haven't seen it in eons.
Avatar 1:35pm
Tony Coulter:

umm, jumped the gun tracklist-wise. "Aldo 00" just started.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm
Jeff Golick:

I think the bylaws require you to now recite twelve "Sweet Jane"s in penance.
Avatar 1:50pm
Tony Coulter:

"Standin' on a corner,
Cassette tape in my hand."
Avatar 1:58pm
Tony Coulter:

As is probably obvious by now, I'm focusing on the industrial/noise side of the cassette underground today. I'll leave it up to you to decide if that's a good or bad thing.
  2:06pm
Mark Williams:

never a bad thing with me.
Avatar 2:16pm
Tony Coulter:

Of course, now with Blinddarm, things are getting funky.

@ Industrial Art: Not sure, to be honest. Really don't know that stuff.
