I was outside on the deck as we came near the Statue of Liberty. A lot of people had been talking the whole time, which was annoying, but when we got close, there was a hush that matched the music you were creating down below. I'm sure everyone was thinking about the contrast between the meaning of the statue and Emma Lazarus's words (added later, but still way before any of us were born) and the current dreadful treatment our government has been inflicting on asylum seekers and other migrants of various levels of documentation.

Also, I don’t want people to get too upset, but did everyone see the New York Times article on Denmarks “ghettos?” It’s jaw dropping. Not to belittle what we in the U.S. are dealing with, but globally this kind of lunkheaded hate seems to be flourishing.

’Starting at the age of 1, “ghetto children” must be separated from their families for at least 25 hours a week, not including nap time, for mandatory instruction in “Danish values,” including the traditions of Christmas and Easter, and Danish language. Noncompliance could result in a stoppage of welfare payments.’

I had a math teacher in High School who once went on a a tangent in class about how he didn’t like going to concerts. Like he just liked to sit home, sip a drink and listen to Dr. John.
