well, if it walks like a horse, neighs like a horse, looks like a horse, poops like a horse...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08pm
Sam Segal:

David, Minx, welcome! Hot tunes to keep you cool in this heat tonight.

From the horse's mouth...

Thanks for dropping by, Chresti!

just got stuck inside my computer lmao the craziest stuff always happens to me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25pm
coelacanth∅:

so what's going on in the picture? a wedding? a sending off of a useless girlchild on a raft? a wine tasting?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27pm
Sam Segal:

I believe its a baptism, @coel!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27pm
coelacanth∅:

oh yeah? i just had to wrestle my computer back from a very formidable horse ghost!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29pm
Sam Segal:

@JustTryingToBeAGoodGuy: Funny you should mention getting stuck in your computer, because I recently got my computer stuck to me! Velcro keyboard and velcro gloves ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30pm
coelacanth∅:

oh okay Sam. i've been to one of those. i was an infant though -i don't remember what it was like.

JustTryingToBeAGoodGuy:

i'm a mini person now and there's no going back....now where to find a restroom in here....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39pm
coelacanth∅:

that baptism picture reminds me of this 78.media.tumblr.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51pm
chresti:

looks like the baptism lost their horse
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54pm
chresti:

luckily for me, being the third born, I was able to escape baptism
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57pm
Sam Segal:

No baptism over here either...Jew, you see.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm
david w:

So, the horse is a metaphor for god and the baptism pic is a tangential judgement on today's theme: what makes you think you're ___. Either that or Garbarek is reminding me of my sensitive spiritual days.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08pm
coelacanth∅:

you mean the horse is a metaphor for dog, of course...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09pm
Sam Segal:

Oh, David, I am so tempted to pretend that I've put that much thought into tonight's proceedings. In fact, I think I will pretend I've put that much thought into tonight's proceedings. Your interpretation is correct!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11pm
david w:

Ha! Is that a dog in the water about ten feet out?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12pm
coelacanth∅:

Wow Sam that's Brilliant!
(oh, and david too for figuring it out!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm
coelacanth∅:

and i think that's someone's pet rock.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14pm
Sam Segal:

"Baptizing My Pet Rock." Might have to write that poem.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm
coelacanth∅:

oh Sam, rocks - like all other animals, don't have souls. only humans (which of course are not animals) have souls.
  10:18pm
fleep on app:

I got soul enough for a dinner party of eight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23pm
Sam Segal:

Damn skippy, Fleep! Welcome!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24pm
coelacanth∅:

and whaddya know there aren't even 8 diners here! what's your address again?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27pm
david w:

8 souls, one rock, Yoruba gods, and a tricky horse. There's your poem.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29pm
coelacanth∅:

'practically writes itself.

Carmichael:

Sam!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06pm
Sam Segal:

Carmichael! Nice to see ya!
  11:08pm
Carmichael:

Been a while. Sounds great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13pm
Sam Segal:

This whole Carl Stone compilation is incredible. Highly recommend checking out the other three masterpieces on it.
  11:15pm
Dean:

Used to listen to Stone on LA's KPFK. Ear-opening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17pm
david w:

Regarding your plea for Frank: Early Sinatra for the voice, later Sinatra for the phrasing and arrangements, he's faking the singing after '51. Carl Stone, all of it, none fake.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm
Sam Segal:

@Dean: This comp features a brilliant piece called "Woo Lae Oak" that I believe Stone premiered on KPFK
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22pm
Sam Segal:

The Gordon Jenkins arrangements are like a warm bath, that's for sure, David. Fake or no, Frank sells 75% of his recordings, for me anyway.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22pm
Sam Segal:

I mean "sell" metaphorically of course. I assume he literally sold more than 75% of his recordings.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27pm
david w:

His achievements historic no doubt. But when I hear him struggle, it distracts me from the music.
  11:28pm
Dean:

An LA Thai restaurant, evidently, the namesake of that piece. I mighta heard it, mighta not.

Sinatra, meh, sorry, not a big fan. Don't quite get the hoopla.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30pm
Sam Segal:

The thing about Sinatra is...the guy bums me out! And that's why I like him!
  11:33pm
Dean:

By that criterion, Trump is Pavarotti!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35pm
david w:

For speech rhythms, Sinatra is immortal and Trump is forever a ten-year-old.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38pm
Sam Segal:

The bizarre, demented idiocy of Trump's speech pattern, I must say, it1does captivate me in a way. I don't know if "awe" is the word, but I am blown away by how bad at constructing normal sentences a person is allowed to be, while also serving as president of the United States.
  11:41pm
Dean:

Immortal, yes, for performance prowess. (I was going to write, "technical prowess," but I'm not sure Sinatra was so technically astute.) But both S and T are kinda creepy, not in my experience personally--though that may be so, too--but aesthetically.

Trump's delivery is no more demented than a huge swath of our citizenry's. I really think we tend to dislike him for the wrong reasons. There is no rule prescribing eloquence for POTUS.
  11:45pm
Dean:

But I wanna keep things "meta" and I will mention that I heard Japan at the Whisky right after the second album (when I liked them), and I was involved with an interview of Vivabeat long ago when the guitarist, Rob Dean, had joined the group.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46pm
Sam Segal:

I agree that eloquence isn't mandatory for POTUS, although coherence would be nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm
david w:

To bring it all home, do we think Holger Czukay was baptized?
  11:54pm
Dean:

I went to law school. Good luck with coherence.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56pm
Sam Segal:

If I had to guess, from the looks of him, I'd say Holger was baptized. Don't ask me how I know, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58pm
david w:

I'm guessing raised by beatnick anarcho-communists. Hey, great show! Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59pm
coelacanth∅:

Holger Czukay was baptized. i performed the service myself, in exchange for an autographed copy of monster movie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00am
david w:

coel wins.
Avatar 12:00am
fleep:

Thanks, Sam!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01am
chresti:

thanks Sam
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02am
coelacanth∅:

Thanks Sam! gnight y'all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03am
chresti:

if his last name was chuka, then he must be baptized
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03am
chresti:

goodnight
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04am
