Morning all!
  6:41am FߘFߘ(:

Good morning, Mr Ken! Can't barely hear you. Turn up your comment's volume a little bit. Thanks!
Avatar 🚽 Swag For Life Member 7:11am Ken From Hyde Park:

Ever notice that Melanie's right arm is so much longer than her left?
  7:29am FߘFߘ(:

Ken from HP,

Nice catch! And you know what's longer than her right arm? Her patience.
  7:49am Listener Robert:

Sorry, I looked but I'm too distraught for a GIF poem or horoscope. Couldn't find A long-term replacement for the late Listener Steve to share the rent here, now have to move out, don't know where. I think I'd rather pay the whole rent for a while, pending coming up with more income or a later replacement co-tenant, than go thru the trauma of finding a place & moving now.

Mornings are always when a situation like this looks bleakest to me.
Avatar 🚽 Swag For Life Member 8:06am Ken From Hyde Park:

Ack, sorry to hear of your predicament, Robert. The station should pursue the possibility of erecting a modest low-cost apartment building in the present-day parking lot in back. It'd be reserved for WFMU patrons only. Or maybe add a couple floors on top of the building for that purpose. Got to fix the leaky roof anyhow.
Avatar 8:13am Losermom:

Good morning everyone. Melania's right arm really is longer than her left.
Avatar 8:36am (Murakami Whywolf))):

My sympathies, Listener Robert. Make it through the morning with Ken.

For myself, with the exception of good radio, I've always found mornings worthless…really, if it weren't for external obligations, I'd be asleep between 06:00 and 16:00. My first summer in Pasadena I had a night job, hated the heat, had no air cooler and lived those hours relatively contentedly.

So I guess I'm affirming what you said: come the afternoon, maybe it'll seem tractable.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37am The Oscar:

I dug OLLA, mostly because I like Jarmusch and Swinton and Hiddleston. It's mostly a hangout movie about aging weirdos who happen to be vampires (and one of whom happens to be Christopher Marlowe). Not a lot of plot, but I didn't mind. I'd recommend checking out the first few minutes-- if you like what you see there, you'll probably like the rest.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44am The Oscar:

@Henry Yes! And record porn, and weird old tech-curio porn. Part of me feels like it's an excuse for Jarmusch to show off his collections, but again, I'm okay with that.
  9:46am FߘFߘ(:

Before I enter the film discussion going on right now I'd like to know what the heck "ponderous and plodding" means, please. I'm too lazy to grab the dictionary now. Thanks.

@Okasa - I saw Pete say that too in a documentary. Todd Haynes went for the legend: a Pete analogue axes the power to the stage as one of the Dylans plays.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34am SSS:

Not that I don't love amplification!!!
  10:34am JakeGould:

“Folk Nazis” is a decent phrase. Reminds me of a bizarre conversation I had with an older hippie lady at the Park Slope Food Co-op when Michael Jackson died. I said something casually of getting tired of hearing “Billie Jean” since Michael Jackson died. She then ranted endlessly about how vacuous his music was and how the only good music is folk music and Michael Jackson made garbage music. I responded, “Well, I like Billie Jean” and Michael Jackson… I’m just getting tired of hearing it.” And sh harumphed away from me. Clearly my brain was rotted from listening to too much of “Off the Wall” and “Thriller.”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34am The Oscar:

Aw man-- at first I thought this was Rockabye Baby doing "Crow Jane" by Nick Cave, and I was so excited to see what the cover of that album looked like.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59am Dominick:

Play fucking loud
  10:59am Brendan:

It wasn’t electrification that changed it all. The intro of the piano in the folk scene was the turning point. Used to traveling from town to town with a guitar, musicians had to lug a piano on their back.
Avatar 10:59am D. Lightfoot:

Kismet: was just reading about Shelley moments ago
Avatar 11:00am D. Lightfoot:

  11:00am PB:

I know this is all focused on the Newport/electric vrs. acoustic nonsense, but has Dylan been even moderately relevant since Blood on the Tracks?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01am The Oscar:

One morning in an old apartment I was playing John Jacob Niles when my roommate came in and said, "Hey, you know what's great for a hangover? NOT THIS."

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05am Pat in Philadelphia:

Whoa the new live stream pop up player is great! Just noticing it now so sorry if I'm late on that one but kudos to whoever did the redesign.
  11:06am Brendan:

Ken did you bring the humpback whale in studio again? I think the landlord is gonna fly off the handle.
  11:07am Sam:

Has WFMU considered a Coney Island transmitter to help reach the distant parts of Brooklyn as well as a huge undersea life audience? I think there are a lot of orcas and squids and stuff that would tune in. And obviously dolphins and sharks.

  11:10am Michiel:

I love Ken's humor.
  11:10am Sam:

Ha, I remember when I was like 20 and I needed a plastic straw to drink a beer out of a can. I'd actually ask for one at the bodega. So embarassing.
Avatar 🚽 Swag For Life Member 11:12am Vivian:

Ken, what about metal straws? Being the bigwig Andy is, surely he's seen them. Or is that too hipster for Andy?
  11:12am Sam:

Now that I think about it, I really miss straws. It's been so long. Carbonation feels nice coming out of a straw. Andy's on to something. That guy is such a genius it's scary.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14am The Oscar:

Rubber nipples are the way of the future.
  11:14am FߘFߘ(:

I read that before plastic went mainstream straws were made of paper. So maybe they will get a comeback. I'd invest in artisanal, organic, fair-trade paper straws. Millenials all over will love them!
Avatar 11:14am Linda Lee:

i can remember packaged paper ones.
Avatar 11:14am zopa:

Oh, I see what you did there.
Avatar 11:15am βrian:

Why not a real straw? You know, straw.

  11:18am Chi Bill:

original straws were rye stem, according to nice polite republicans
Avatar 11:18am βrian:

Before they started to perforate the paper coverings, one could snip one end and blow the covers off like like little missiles.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18am Tome:

those floppies were the sh*** !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18am steveo:

oh i guess it's a floppy disk drive, not a printer?
  11:19am Sam:

My great great great great great grandson visited me from the future in his time machine. It's a crappy American time machine, he couldn't afford a state of the art German one. But that's not the point, the thing is, he was completely green and his skin was leafy. Apparently humans evolve to develop photosynthesis in the future, which makes perfect sense, and nobody eats anything anymore and straws are completely obsolete. And you don't need toilets, so that also cuts down on expenses.
Avatar 11:19am Lewis:

@ßrian - my parents frowned on that behavior
Avatar 🚽 Swag For Life Member 11:19am Webhamster Henry:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20am melinda:

I've seen paper straws designed to resemble birch trees. Definitely a market for fancy non-plastic straws.

By the way, people, I have been told this Harry Nilsson and Shelley Duval track can be found in the masterpiece, chef-d'œuvre, magnus opus album of Popeye's sountrack. Yes! Don't be mislead! This album deserves a place in the musical Olympus. I'm writing NASA chiefs to bring back that album sent to space and change it for this one!
