@Rickwaukee: YMRT is a great podcast, one of the few I follow. Her Charles Manson's Hollywood nine-parter was another good one, but her one-offs about individual stars and producers long since forgotten and/or crusted with myth are great, too.
Her current season is a close examination/fact-check of Anger's "Hollywood Babylon."

  12:58pm
JakeGould:

FWIW, the main thing anyone needs to know about Kenneth Anger’s “Hollywood Babylon” is it’s eloquent, utterly-faceless bullshit that got traction before the Internet existed. I like Kenneth Anger’s work, but that book is basically an art interpretation of what a gossip book is; it’s bullshit and he knows it is.

there used to be a place in my town had homemade ice cream (her recipes) and juice and smoothies. i hadn't eaten ice cream in several years and didn't miss it. my gf & i'd go there to hang and draw/knit i'd have a heavily gingered vegetarian smoothie and she'd have ice cream. she convinced me to try it one 105ºf day and i started eating ice cream again.
then the owner moved away. sold the business, including the recipes for the world's most amazing ice cream. unfortunately she sold it to "vegans" who probably ceremonially burned the ice cream recipes.

@Jeff: You picked up on the reason some weird flavors exist. “Hey! What can we do with these old coffee grounds? Mix them into ice cream!” It’s part of the reason lots of horrible artisanal sodas and sweets exist. Lavender, dandelion and ginger are cheap natural flavoring ingredients. So just mix them into soda or ice cream, charge $5 per thing and profit!

@coelacanth∅: sounds like that lady was on the right track with quality ingredients! Yeah, some coffee ice cream can taste too sweet or like beans or a roast I just wouldn't want to drink, but super often it also tastes like oxidized old coffee or off old beans. Of course, the process of making ice cream may just have a bad effect on the coffee included.
