Hey Gary!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:11pm
Gary:

Jake! Has your commute improved since discovery of the Blue Wall?
  7:11pm
JakeGould:

So is that pick from a place in the U.S.?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:13pm
Gary:

@Jake: No, that pic is from the inside cover of one of the CDs I got at Nouri Brothers -- my pics of Nouri Brothers aren't interesting enough for the playlist, sadly ;-(
  7:13pm
JakeGould:

Ha! The stops they now make extra stops at because of that blue wall are extra quick… But then past that? Same inexplicable delays. I do wish the goats on the N line thing happened earlier in the day. I would have loved to tweeted about goats making me late for work!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:14pm
Gary:

Goats, blue walls, who can keep up with it all
  7:14pm
JakeGould:

Here are the goats. This is why my rent is cheap in this ass end of Brooklyn. ny.curbed.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:17pm
Gary:

Haha ... oh, man. I'm on the other side of that N from you, btw
  7:17pm
JakeGould:

In other hilarious news, a group came to my neighborhood during the latest Eid (Al-Fatir?) and they are the… “Authentic Rabbis Against Zionism” I laughed really hard at their “Authentic” poster.
  7:17pm
JakeGould:

@Gary: You mean in Queens?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:17pm
Gary:

Yes!
  7:18pm
JakeGould:

Do you folks out there dub the N and R lines the “Never” and the “Rarely?”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:19pm
Gary:

Neither is as bad as my former train, the Forever
Avatar 🇰🇷 Swag For Life Member 7:20pm

what is "Blue Wall"?

Ahhh… “F” the “Eff”

The blue wall is a secret.

Hi Hyde

JakeGould:

Now back to more important things: That guy in the pic has like 4 dubbing decks. Damn… I miss those days!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm
Gary:

That's Cheb Nasro, btw -- sadly, I'm not playing anything from the CD I scanned that pic from ... maybe someday :)
  7:28pm
JakeGould:

Well, I still like him!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:29pm

Haha -- well, he looks like a nice enough guy ... plus, again, yes, those decks

Avatar 7:34pm
Mayuko:

That's a really cool pic on the playlist. Almost asked the same question as Jake did!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36pm
Gary:

I feel like such a fraud now! But, my actual pics of Nouri Bros are like thousands of times less groovy. Also, just LOOK AT that white princess phone hovering just on the edge of left-hand side of that pic
Avatar 7:38pm
hyde:

i missed some of the yakkin'. is the general theme some neighborhood where you went and bought stuff?
  7:38pm
JakeGould:

The only thing I am thinking of is… I assume those decks are used for dubbing tapes. But in the upper left of the pic both bays of the deck have pre-printed tapes. Could just be using it to play one tape after another?
  7:39pm
JakeGould:

@Mayuko: Hey! So did you hear about the goats that appeared on the N train tracks in Brooklyn?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:40pm
Gary:

Hyde! Yes, everything is from Nouri Brothers, a Syrian (?) shopping center in Paterson, NJ
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:40pm
northguineahills:

@Jake: The Satmar Hascids have always been anti-Zionists. Even some ultra-Orthodox sects in Israel are as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:40pm
Gary:

You're right, Jake! He's DJin' tapes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:41pm
Gary:

NGH!
  7:41pm
JakeGould:

@NGH: I know, and I don’t really care. But I just think getting a sign saying “Authentic Rabbis” is very funny. Like there are a bunch of imposter Rabbis saying the same thing?
Avatar 7:43pm
Mayuko:

@Jake I'm off from commuting this week and staying away from MTA as much as possible to maintain my mental health. Where did the goats come from?! Didn't know we had goat neighbors around here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:44pm
northguineahills:

The funny part is Jon Stewart helped herd the goats before animal control got there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:45pm
Gary:

That's just ... I thought it was some kind of publicity stunt!
Avatar 7:45pm
hyde:

@Gary ah! awesome
  7:45pm
JakeGould:

One other funny thing to think—at least to me—is there used to be a heavy metal recording studio around the corner from me in Bay Ridge back in the 1980s. That was back when L’Amours was still a thing. But now I realize this neighborhood is Arabic/Middle Eastern those metal heads mixed in with the community I guess. Both semi-outcasts in deep Brooklyn.

@Mayuko: Escaped from a local slaughterhouse. Which is funny to me but also weird if you know the physical landscape. Those goats had to make some effort!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:47pm
Gary:

Jake, I have two -- two! -- books about heavy metal in the middle east
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:48pm
Gary:

And I think there used to be a blog devoted just to Algerian metal ... although I can't remember the name of it now
  7:48pm
JakeGould:

@Gary: Wow! maybe if the cabaret laws were repealed then perhaps a subculture like that could exist here.
Avatar 7:49pm
tim abdellah:

Viva el Ghiwane!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:51pm
Gary:

Tim, I found THREE Nass El Ghiwane CDs there!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:51pm
northguineahills:

@Gary, he just happened to be on the platform when he saw the goats, went and talked officer/booth person (I forget), and then herded them. I never get to herd goats, I'm jelly! (although I'd prefer to do it outside MTA tracks).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:52pm
Gary:

That's just amazing
Avatar 7:52pm
tim abdellah:

@Gary: !!!
@NGH: !!!
Avatar 7:54pm
hyde:

@ngh crazy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55pm
Gary:

I wanted to ask you about one of them, because the title of it is "Abderahmane Paco" ... but that's the name of the gembri player ...
Avatar 7:59pm
tim abdellah:

Hmm - interesting. Would love to take a look at it.
Avatar 8:00pm
tim abdellah:

Moroccan
Avatar 8:00pm
tim abdellah:

Najat Tazi, that is.
Avatar 8:03pm
tim abdellah:

I caught just the end of the Najat Tazi. It did sound like it had an Algerian rai influence.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:04pm
Gary:

Thanks, Tim! I'll update the playlist ... it did, right?
Avatar 8:06pm
tim abdellah:

Yep - it says "Morocco" now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:08pm
northguineahills:

Holas and Howdeez tim!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:08pm
Gary:

I'm gonna email you pics of the front and back of that CD in a moment, Tim
  8:09pm
JakeGould:

@NGH: I really don’t think Jon Stewart was on a subway platform on N train in Brooklyn. I doubt he and his wife were at the Fort Hamilton Parkway stop for any reason. I bet they just heard about the goats on the news and went to NYC animal control with whatever rescue group they work with.
Avatar 8:23pm
hyde:

this is great music to do laundry by
Avatar 8:24pm
tim abdellah:

Hmm. It's on Fassiphone. Paco did at least one album for Fassiphone in his post-Ghiwane years, so perhaps this is another one. Some of the titles correspond to Ghiwane songs, so they could be remakes. NG never recorded for Fassiphone, as far as I can recall.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:24pm
Gary:

Hyde, they're applauding your head-on approach to chore-doing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:26pm

Tim, I'll have to rip the CD for you, probably Friday -- I just looked I haven't done that yet
Avatar 8:26pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:28pm

I had to google "Kon Mari" just now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32pm
northguineahills:

OK, leaving work, hear ya at home!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:34pm
Gary:

Happy trails, NGH -- stay away from goats and blue walls!
  8:37pm
JakeGould:

@Gary: Basically it means just throwing stuff out. But in a very specific way. But in my definition it just means, “Ehhh… I’m never going to get $$$ back on this and it’s taking up space. Time to sell/donate/toss.”
Avatar 8:43pm
hyde:
