I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

I hear vibra/xylophone-type music, if that helps!

I'm hearing a vibraphone (I think)

I sometimes think that being an artist requires a belief in oneself that makes it easy to be a jerk
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm
Dropof Goldensun:

Yes, he wasn't the most faithful in his relationships if that's what you mean. Kind of "rockstar" before the term existed. Not sure of any other controversies. I will have to look it up. All I know is I spent countless hours trying to perfect his impressionist style on the paino with not much luck.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm

Good morning! We saw MS perform this a few months ago. It was pretty great.

Also, Mayuko, the lunar theme is a good one!

P-90:

Subotnick! Another great choice.
  12:39pm
Rickwaukee:

Well, that escalated and deescalated quickly
  12:39pm
rw:

Yeah, I hadn’t heard it for a while and was afraid it wouldn’t hold up but it totally does.
Avatar 12:40pm
Mayuko:

It's unfortunate but I guess that's how it is re: artists being into themselves. Personally I'm hoping to keep it to the level of not too obnoxious for myself!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm
Dropof Goldensun:

If I may make a suggestion... Silver Moon by David Sylvian.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm
Dropof Goldensun:

Same here but I'm sure I'm considered obnoxious by some! haha

Mayuko I can’t picture your ego inflating out of control. I think you’re fine.

@Mayuko: What rw said. I think you have a safe margin before going there

And I’m back to fixing the bicycle. Keep it in orbit and I may check back in later!

Howdy! "Rihako no Tsuki" givs me visons of cartoons. Enjoying very much!
Avatar 12:47pm
Mayuko:

@Rickwaukee I wonder if it was the silver apples escalated and deescalated on the moon for some reason? What are they doing there? What's all these Silver Apples talk in English spoken culture anyway? Is the band Silver Apples referring to the same thing? Like Bible thing or something?
Avatar 12:47pm
geezerette:

...excuse me, Rihaku!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm

Then again there are many self-centered jerks who don't have the redeeming quality of being artists, or producing much except hot air

The last time my workplace organized a conference, more than half the papers were submitted within one hour of the midnight deadline. A common researcher trick to buy time is to submit a fake PDF then claim it was somehow corrupted during upload. Nobody's fooled, but almost everyone has done it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm
listener james from westwood:

I, a freelancer, would be lying if I said my to-do lists weren't often started with "Make to-do list" just so I'd have something I could instantly cross off.

@Ken all the Japanese kids would be extremely appreciative of having that extra 5 days! Then again, probably they'd just postpone everything to that week and the panic is bound to happen. That's what would happen to me anyway...
Avatar 1:23pm
Mayuko:

@fred That strategy might have not become so common yet in the illustrators industry. I should keep that trick in mind for future. I also hope none of my clients are listening to my show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm
Dropof Goldensun:

All Japan and David S sounds very good to me! I will look forward to it! It will DEVASTATE me, but in a good way.

@james OF COURSE!!! re: to-do start with Make to-do list

Lately I've been making very minimal to-do lists, keeping the bar low.

@Robert I heard someone says whatever you can do tomorrow, don't feel stressted, do it tomorrow. But I feel like I have to admit it's probably your reminder is the better way to go!!!!!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm
fred:

My email inbox is my to-do list. I have so many bosses who won't acknowledge my existence that I usually hear about a deadline by being cc'ed in an email blaming me for missing it. It's actually relaxing, as my deadlines are in the past anyway
Avatar 1:36pm
Mayuko:

@Dropof I dunno what to do with that challenge yet but maybe a premium of some random people covering Japan songs, and handmade Japan members portraits for giveaway prizes or something. (And yes I am aware that it all sounds suicidal fundraiser-wise!!!!!!!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

I just paid a couple of medical bills online, so I can hereby proclaim this a productive Saturday. Getting a haircut and going grocery shopping still on the to-do list.
Avatar 1:37pm

@Joe Thanks for tuning in! Listening to some moon songs for an hour two wouldn't hurt! And yes! I looove that image of project LOLA!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm

Also on the list: change the calendars. Rabbit rabbit!
Avatar 1:39pm

@Ken those are productive and yet not too painful to-dos!

@KenFHP: I think the last time I got a haircut was in December. 1994
Avatar 1:41pm

@fred That sounds like yet another nice way of dealing with deadlines.
Avatar 1:42pm
Mayuko:

... I meant the inbox thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm
Dropof Goldensun:

Mayuko that would be amazing! A handmade portrait of David or the late great Mick Karn would probably make me break the piggy bank. Love the cover song idea as well. And you're right, it does sound semi-suicidal but I'm sorry, I'm not going to be the one who talks you out of it! ;)

Do you all know about PhD comics? It's a very accurate portrayal of academia (and procrastination as an art form)
Avatar 1:47pm
geezerette:

rbt, exactly! It's true though.
Avatar 1:47pm
Mayuko:

@geezerette The thing is when you're stressed that kinda paralyzes your motivation too, which makes it difficult to move and start doing stuff. So it's not really helping...

Nice show. Listening on the following Friday. Missed it Saturday -- was off on the Delaware coast, but where I spent a portion of the weekend at the local beer factory (Dogfish Head brewery in Milton) drinking beers such as "Dragon Yum Yums" a beer created (and named) for them by Wayne Coyne, who once wrote a song called "Yoshimi battles the Pink Robots" a reference to the Boredoms. And a beer whose label was painted by John Langeford who was in the Three Johns, and the Mekons.
Avatar 11:52am
Mayuko:

Thanks for listening in the archives, paul! Sounds like you had a great weekend! I'm not familiar with Flaming Lips, but can't help thinking I'm relieved it was Flaming Lips-inspired beer and not directly boredoms-inspired beer (which I'd imagine to taste horrible).
