I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

excited for moon music!☽
Avatar 12:00pm Mayuko:

Am I on? My app seems broken and I can't monitor.
Avatar 12:01pm fred:

Good afternoon Mayuko and listeners
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm listener james from westwood:

I hear vibra/xylophone-type music, if that helps!
Avatar 12:02pm fred:

I'm hearing a vibraphone (I think)
Avatar 12:02pm Mayuko:

Good, that's it! Thanks!!!!!
  12:02pm rbrt:

Seems like it, Masayoshi Fujita
Avatar 12:04pm Mayuko:

And hallos everyone! Thanks for tuning in! @rbrt it's kinda easy/lazy theme but a fun one for sure, haha.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm redkayak:

Hello all :)
  12:06pm rbrt:

the moon is always fun!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm Dropof Goldensun:

Greetings Mayuko and listeners!
  12:06pm rbrt:

hi redkayak
Avatar 12:06pm Mayuko:

& thanks for posting the info of that Korean woman last week, my radio family fred! I haven't been able to look into it yet... it's been a bit crazy week which has led to this show with moon theme today.
Avatar 12:07pm Mayuko:

Hi redkayak! and Dropof! Glad to have you guys here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm coelacanth∅:

greetings Mayuko & Moonies
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm coelacanth∅:

("moonies" in the non-sado-masochistic cult kind of way)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm redkayak:

Hi @mayuko, @rbrt :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm doctorjazz:

Hey all, pretty opening
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Greetings, Mayuko and guests. Nice way to honor the reign of the mascot, Moondog the lucky goat.
  12:14pm rbrt:

I love that What the Moon saw!
  12:17pm P-90:

Greetings, Mayuko-DJ and friends
Avatar 12:17pm Mayuko:

Hi coelacanth∅, doctorjazz, and Ken! Thank you for tuning in!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm Dropof Goldensun:

I love Debussy!
Avatar 12:18pm Mayuko:

@rbrt It's such a beautiful book with a little lonely feeling, I loved it when I was a child.
Avatar 12:19pm Mayuko:

Hellos, P-90! Thanks for tuning in!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm Robert Tables:

Good after-moon!
  12:23pm rbrt:

yeah! all those fairy tale like books are great
Avatar 12:24pm Mayuko:

@Dropof He's amazing except himself? Can't remember the details, but wasn't he infamously a jerk?
Avatar 12:24pm Mayuko:

Good aftermoo, Robert Tables!!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm Jeff Golick:

I love lunar toons. Hello, Mayuko! And fellow vertiginians.
Avatar 12:29pm Mayuko:

Jeff G!!! Happy to have you here!!!
Avatar 12:32pm fred:

I sometimes think that being an artist requires a belief in oneself that makes it easy to be a jerk
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm Dropof Goldensun:

Yes, he wasn't the most faithful in his relationships if that's what you mean. Kind of "rockstar" before the term existed. Not sure of any other controversies. I will have to look it up. All I know is I spent countless hours trying to perfect his impressionist style on the paino with not much luck.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm Dropof Goldensun:

  12:34pm rw:

Good morning! We saw MS perform this a few months ago. It was pretty great.
  12:35pm rw:

And fred, Ive had that thought many times before!
  12:37pm rw:

Also, Mayuko, the lunar theme is a good one!
Avatar 12:37pm Mayuko:

@rw That must have been fun! I like that this track is experimental but also so much fun.
  12:39pm P-90:

Subotnick! Another great choice.
  12:39pm Rickwaukee:

Well, that escalated and deescalated quickly
  12:39pm rw:

Yeah, I hadn’t heard it for a while and was afraid it wouldn’t hold up but it totally does.
Avatar 12:40pm Mayuko:

It's unfortunate but I guess that's how it is re: artists being into themselves. Personally I'm hoping to keep it to the level of not too obnoxious for myself!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm Dropof Goldensun:

If I may make a suggestion... Silver Moon by David Sylvian.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm Dropof Goldensun:

Same here but I'm sure I'm considered obnoxious by some! haha
  12:42pm ike:

Hi! Sounds great! Just stopping in briefly before I go mail postcards to voters for Zellnor Myrie and hand out Blake Morris flyers etc.
  12:42pm rw:

Mayuko I can’t picture your ego inflating out of control. I think you’re fine.
  12:43pm Rickwaukee:

My class voted for Police's 'Walking on the Moon' to be our Jr Prom theme and the Admin overruled it so Christopher Cross 'Sailing' :-(
Avatar 12:44pm fred:

@Mayuko: What rw said. I think you have a safe margin before going there
  12:45pm rw:

And I’m back to fixing the bicycle. Keep it in orbit and I may check back in later!
Avatar 12:47pm geezerette:

Howdy! "Rihako no Tsuki" givs me visons of cartoons. Enjoying very much!
Avatar 12:47pm Mayuko:

@Rickwaukee I wonder if it was the silver apples escalated and deescalated on the moon for some reason? What are they doing there? What's all these Silver Apples talk in English spoken culture anyway? Is the band Silver Apples referring to the same thing? Like Bible thing or something?
Avatar 12:47pm geezerette:

...excuse me, Rihaku!
Avatar 12:47pm fred:

Then again there are many self-centered jerks who don't have the redeeming quality of being artists, or producing much except hot air
  12:49pm Rickwaukee:

Did not know Silver Apples was a thing. <out of loop
Avatar 12:50pm geezerette:

Wonderful set!
Avatar 12:50pm fred:

This Yas-Kas track was delightful
  12:53pm rbrt:

Mayuko you're stressing me out with homework lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm Ken From Hyde Park:

The school district here commences class this Wednesday, the 5th.
  12:55pm Rickwaukee:

Drawing the moon is as hard(er) as(than) photographing it
  12:59pm rbrt:

haha like if I had to pick a way to go, dying drunk trying to catch the moon isn't so bad I guess
Avatar 12:59pm fred:

The last time my workplace organized a conference, more than half the papers were submitted within one hour of the midnight deadline. A common researcher trick to buy time is to submit a fake PDF then claim it was somehow corrupted during upload. Nobody's fooled, but almost everyone has done it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm listener james from westwood:

I, a freelancer, would be lying if I said my to-do lists weren't often started with "Make to-do list" just so I'd have something I could instantly cross off.
  1:00pm rbrt:

@james lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm Robert Tables:

I have a sign hanging over my desk to serve as a constant reminder: "Procrastination is stressful. Whatever you want to do tomorrow, do today; whatever you want to do today, do now."
Avatar 1:03pm fred:

I like this track!
  1:08pm melinda:

Hi group
Avatar 1:10pm Mayuko:

Thanks for stopping by Ike!
Avatar 1:10pm fred:

This one even more! (to nobody's surprise, as Okinawa music is always worth a clicky-star for me)
  1:11pm rbrt:

hi melinda
Avatar 1:11pm geezerette:

Love this man's voice. :)
Avatar 1:16pm Mayuko:

@Dropof Ah! I have Silver Moon somewhere deep in my external HDD!! I'm planning to play all JAPAN/David S for my next fundraiser marathon, whatever that could mean. (could mean devastation)
  1:17pm Rickwaukee:

Wow, clean sound for 1930
Avatar 1:17pm Mayuko:

Late hallos and welcome, geezerette! Thanks for tuning in!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm melinda:

I like the photo
Avatar 1:21pm Mayuko:

@Ken all the Japanese kids would be extremely appreciative of having that extra 5 days! Then again, probably they'd just postpone everything to that week and the panic is bound to happen. That's what would happen to me anyway...
Avatar 1:23pm Mayuko:

@fred That strategy might have not become so common yet in the illustrators industry. I should keep that trick in mind for future. I also hope none of my clients are listening to my show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm Dropof Goldensun:

All Japan and David S sounds very good to me! I will look forward to it! It will DEVASTATE me, but in a good way.
Avatar 1:24pm Mayuko:

@james OF COURSE!!! re: to-do start with Make to-do list
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm melinda:

Lately I've been making very minimal to-do lists, keeping the bar low.
Avatar 1:30pm Mayuko:

@Robert I heard someone says whatever you can do tomorrow, don't feel stressted, do it tomorrow. But I feel like I have to admit it's probably your reminder is the better way to go!!!!!
Avatar 1:30pm Mayuko:

Hi melinda!! Late welcome but happy to have your ears!
Avatar 1:31pm geezerette:

Melinda, that's a really good idea!
Avatar 1:31pm Mayuko:

I think that's a very good idea too! It must help you stay motivated.
  1:33pm Joe:

Late hellos to everyone! I also have work I should probably be doing, but I'm enjoying the tunes while checking out more images of project LOLA -- pretty amazing!
Avatar 1:34pm fred:

My email inbox is my to-do list. I have so many bosses who won't acknowledge my existence that I usually hear about a deadline by being cc'ed in an email blaming me for missing it. It's actually relaxing, as my deadlines are in the past anyway
Avatar 1:36pm Mayuko:

@Dropof I dunno what to do with that challenge yet but maybe a premium of some random people covering Japan songs, and handmade Japan members portraits for giveaway prizes or something. (And yes I am aware that it all sounds suicidal fundraiser-wise!!!!!!!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I just paid a couple of medical bills online, so I can hereby proclaim this a productive Saturday. Getting a haircut and going grocery shopping still on the to-do list.
Avatar 1:37pm Mayuko:

@Joe Thanks for tuning in! Listening to some moon songs for an hour two wouldn't hurt! And yes! I looove that image of project LOLA!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Also on the list: change the calendars. Rabbit rabbit!
Avatar 1:39pm Mayuko:

@Ken those are productive and yet not too painful to-dos!
Avatar 1:40pm fred:

@KenFHP: I think the last time I got a haircut was in December. 1994
Avatar 1:41pm Mayuko:

@fred That sounds like yet another nice way of dealing with deadlines.
Avatar 1:42pm Mayuko:

... I meant the inbox thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm Dropof Goldensun:

Mayuko that would be amazing! A handmade portrait of David or the late great Mick Karn would probably make me break the piggy bank. Love the cover song idea as well. And you're right, it does sound semi-suicidal but I'm sorry, I'm not going to be the one who talks you out of it! ;)
Avatar 1:44pm geezerette:

My dad used to say,"Procrastination is the thief of time."
Stressed me out every time he said it! :D
  1:45pm rbrt:

@geezerette lol, would stress me out and I would procrastinate more
Avatar 1:45pm Mayuko:

@Dropof haha!!
Avatar 1:45pm geezerette:

Beautiful show,Mayuko!
Avatar 1:46pm fred:

Do you all know about PhD comics? It's a very accurate portrayal of academia (and procrastination as an art form)
Avatar 1:47pm geezerette:

rbt, exactly! It's true though.
Avatar 1:47pm Mayuko:

@geezerette The thing is when you're stressed that kinda paralyzes your motivation too, which makes it difficult to move and start doing stuff. So it's not really helping...
Avatar 1:47pm Mayuko:

in another word what rbrt said!
Avatar 1:48pm geezerette:

Fred, that sounds very funny!
Avatar 1:49pm geezerette:

Mayuko, I agree completely.
Avatar 1:51pm fred:

@geezerette: phdcomics.com
Lots of inside jokes though, that won't make sense if you're not in the weird world of academia
  1:52pm rw:

What kind of ice cream do you use for a moon shake?
Avatar 1:52pm geezerette:

Thanks, Mayuko and friends!
  1:53pm rbrt:

this moon show was very relaxing
Avatar 1:53pm fred:

(Today's strip is appropriate to the comments back-to-school theme)
Avatar 1:54pm geezerette:

@Fred, I'm sideways to it. Many of my friends are professors or adjuncts.
Avatar 1:55pm geezerette:

(checked it out, Ha! :D)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm Dropof Goldensun:

I never plan on changing my procrastination habit. I do my best work under stress and at the last minute. When I allot enough time to do things I wind up over thinking everything.
  1:57pm rw:

Thank you Mayuko! Have a relaxing Labor Day and a productive week everyone!
Avatar 1:58pm geezerette:

@Dropof, same here. Wish it were otherwise...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm Robert Tables:

I first heard the word "procrastination" on Sesame Street, funny enough. Thanks Mayuko!
Avatar 2:00pm fred:

Thanks again, Mayuko. I'll probably be away next week (going to a show featuring people I haven't seen in a while, with a former WFMU DJ dropping by), thanks "Bob" for the archives
  2:02pm Rickwaukee:

Take me to the river, to spit, please. Ha ha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm listener james from westwood:

Oh jeez, what a week! Either of those alone would've been a hell of a thing!
  2:02pm rbrt:

lol I would of had a hard time not laughing with those songs playing while dentist was working
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03pm Dropof Goldensun:

Thanks Mayuko! Have a great week everyone!
Avatar 2:03pm fred:

I wish the dentist had played music when extracting a tooth. That sound was weird, as was the guy basically sitting on my chest pulling
  2:04pm rbrt:

fred lol
  2:05pm Rickwaukee:

I hope you had lots of ice cream post extraction. It has not changed you speech, which is GOOD. Thank you, Mayuko. Have a beautiful week.
Avatar 2:06pm fred:

I once saw Kid Koala do a great version of Moon River
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm listener james from westwood:

Thanks, Mayuko!
  2:07pm rbrt:

thanks mayuko! hope your no tooth? feels better
  2:07pm rbrt:

have a good weekend everyone!
Avatar 2:08pm fred:

Getting a tooth pulled out is really going to extremes to get doctor's order to eat ice cream
Avatar 2:11pm Mayuko:

Thanks again everyone for listening and well-wishes for my forever lost tooth! I did treat myself with lots of ice cream. See you all next week (except, have fun at the show, fred!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Thanks, Mayuko. The tooth will set you free!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm coelacanth∅:

Thanks Mayuko!
take care
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:57pm paul b:

Nice show. Listening on the following Friday. Missed it Saturday -- was off on the Delaware coast, but where I spent a portion of the weekend at the local beer factory (Dogfish Head brewery in Milton) drinking beers such as "Dragon Yum Yums" a beer created (and named) for them by Wayne Coyne, who once wrote a song called "Yoshimi battles the Pink Robots" a reference to the Boredoms. And a beer whose label was painted by John Langeford who was in the Three Johns, and the Mekons.
Avatar 11:52am Mayuko:

Thanks for listening in the archives, paul! Sounds like you had a great weekend! I'm not familiar with Flaming Lips, but can't help thinking I'm relieved it was Flaming Lips-inspired beer and not directly boredoms-inspired beer (which I'd imagine to taste horrible).
