Greetings Jeff!9:22am : Love this Ornette!9:26am : hello everyone!🥁 9:27am : Morning all!9:34am : Hello everyone! Bob "The Frogman" Brainen Comeith9:35am : perhaps i've missed something along the way but looking at the new wfmu schedule, bob is conspicuously absent. end of an era? say it ain't so!9:36am : I go swamping to get good field recordings at night (frogs usually dominate aurally).9:38am : Hey Doc + All, Good Timing!9:38am : @ngh: Why not send your field recordings into WFMU so we all can hear them on someone's show9:38am : are you sure? google says: 'No results found for "frogs dominate aurally"'9:42am : Loved Dean. Look up British comic Daniel Kitson, he’s good friends with Demitri and they’re quite alike. He doesn’t put a lot out though so you may have to stoop to the bootlegs9:48am : @northguineahills ~ i love doing field recordings! aiming to do something at my new digs ~ natural sounds move through this bowl-shaped valley pretty amazingly. what kind of recorder do you use?9:49am : @Rocky I think ngh has had some of his field recordings played on Neighbors Noise, on the GTDR stream9:50am : @melinda cool!9:50am : I love the Orlons! I have all their LPs and picture sleeve 45s. "Goin' Places" should have been a number 1 hit!9:51am : great show, selecter
Steven Wright's voice and demeanor

I like it.10:02am : Richard In Brooklyn prompted me to take a look at the fall schedule. I, also, can’t find Bob anywhere.
I’ve been listening to Bob since 1980. In an increasingly fucked up world, his program is an oasis. I/we need him.
What’s up, Bob?10:03am : that's just Bob, Buddha. :-)10:03am : Jeff, are you kidding? let's go see.10:04am : ha10:04am : Kerouac did a lovely set of pieces with Zoot Sims. haiku.10:05am : Anne Sexton did readings with jazz too10:06am : Jeff's right, damn it.10:06am : @melinda ~ did she? must hear!10:07am : Buddha ~ Shirley Ellis did the song that inspired Rachel Bo Bachel. :-)10:08am : Whaa? Thought Rachel was just being quirky!10:08am : @LL I heard it at an exhibit of stuff from her archive at the Ransom Center in Austin, haven't looked for it since then.10:09am : she was. but look up 'the name game'. folks my age knew it as kids.🥁 10:09am : Gonna miss ya man.10:10am : I'll miss you Bob, you've become a part of my Saturday morning routine. Enjoy your hiatus.10:10am : Great show as always, Bob! Going to miss spending Saturday mornings with your show!10:11am : Where'd ya go Hughie C?10:11am : @melinda ~ time to go detective! thanks.10:11am : wow .. working hard here on an art piece. FANTASTIC SHOW!!! thanks very productive music. For me10:11am : I was shocked to see Bob absent from the schedule, too, this was my first FMU show 8-9 years ago.10:11am : I really dig this song.10:11am : no one can replace Bob Brainen. that's a fact.10:12am : @Rocky: Jesse Kaminsky plays my unedited and edited field recordings on Neighbor's Noise on Give the Drummer Some stream Tuesdays 7pm-10pm. I'm excited to see everyone's work.10:16am : @Buddha: epidermis is stil shite, but my friends gave me homeopathic pointers and local experts, to supplement my pharmeceuticals, so, I'm optimistic.10:17am : Glad to hear northguineahills. Will you be in NJ for the Art Auction?10:19am : cant remember my pass word or you email.... THAt sounds like clay. hahahaah10:20am : the falsetto i mean10:21am : thought for sure you meant the memory lapse :-)10:22am : Linda Lee, you're feisty today.10:22am : I don't do monocultures, my veggies are all mixed together, w/ native flowers, but I need to go back out to weed some of the larger elephant ears and other plants that are encroaching my precious herbs and veggies.
@Buddha: due to my medical costs, I've cancelled my visit to my wife in BK, so, sadly, I won't be there (I have insurance, and it still costs me more then an airline ticket per month, well, that's what I get for living in a third-world country [accident of birt])10:22am : no bonnie turner. my writing is horrible10:22am : Is my profile pic too Goth/dreary? I can change it to fluffy clouds.10:23am : So, I started listening to Bob and Frank O’Toole (back to back) in 1980. Sometime in the late ‘80s, I’m at the Bottom Line with my girlfriend/future 1st and ex-wife. I start rapping to the guy sitting next to me, and, guess what? It’s Bob Brainen! He invites me to come and guest DJ with him, and I never do it.
What a putz I am!
Thanks for the memories, Bob10:23am : errr... accident of birth (darn sticky keys)10:24am : amount of feisty is directly related to wakefulness here.
Goth? hardly! it's in color!10:24am : Northguineahills, i am sorry to hear that. You have been through so much. Offering you a virtual hug.10:24am : @Jeff ~ we've all got those putz stories, methinks :-)10:25am : thanks for your great shows.10:25am : Thanks LL10:25am : Hey Cooh John10:26am : Thanks, Linda Lee10:28am : i was visiting LA in 73 with music biz familiy & invited to see the Dead play, from the guy who managed the theater. would've gotten close to the stage & backstage as well. i chose the beach. putzish! :-D10:30am : linda last show at JFK stadium in philly. Sold my dead tickets went to see jazz on delaware10:30am : Nooooooooooo! Don’t go away, Bob. Saturdays won’t be the same. :_10:30am : 198410:31am : oy. :-D10:31am : And now... Bob "The Frogman" Brainen10:32am : does anybody know link for the archives folder DJ intitials to download mp410:33am : still haven't lived mine down & for this reason i will welcome senility.
or death. :-D10:33am : i think i would gone to yours10:34am : Daniel closes10:34am : Clowes10:35am : @Jeff: I guess that session wasn't archived. My sessions were mysteriously not archived and that was in the noughts of this millenia.
Thanks, Buddha, abrazos a cambio!10:37am : there's a bit of a karma story there. the manager's old lady & my aunt, her bestie, wouldn't guide my decision, though they were my 'babysitters'. i remember the manager's lady saying, 'let's not make this decision. let's let the kid decide. see how hip she is.' so i chose the beach. they were visibly disappointed. served em right! that's karma. :-D10:37am : disappearing outside to tend to the garden, if I'm not back, thanks Bob!10:38am : nice, LL!10:40am : thanks, i agree. i've been a karmic facilitator ever since. i tend to bring it about. ;-)10:42am : gosh, i love the Ivy League. love this stuff immensely.10:43am : karma hasn't favored me the last few years, so I'm due! (bets on the Washington Generals vs the Harlem Globetrotters).10:43am : I saw the Dead and The Band in 1973. It was in Jersey City of all places! All I remember was Phil Lesh walking past me before the show with his eyes rolled back in his head. All I saw was the whites of his eyes. Reminded me of the first time I went to the Village Vanguard to see Pharoah Sanders. Freaked me out!10:43am : What LL said...10:44am : wow. having a pre-show event i guess. :-D10:45am : what happened at the vanguard?10:45am : ngh ~ yes, you're due. just be kind. it'll catch up to you for sure. ;-)10:45am : @ngh: I alway root for the Globetrotters10:46am : @Jeff creepy! but good.10:46am : I saw the Dead out of curiousity in '96. I wasn't too much into the music back then (I am now), but the people there were amazing human beings. I will never forget it. Then Jerry died a few months later. An unforgettable experience.10:47am : what the hell venus was there in JC in 73, Jeff? i grew up there, more or less, throughout the 60s & 70s. don't remember any venue at all.10:47am : Great show today, Bob. I'm glad we have today.10:47am : sadly, never got to see the Pharoah.....10:47am : glad you got to see them, ngh. i did not!10:49am : Roosevelt Stadium: https://www.cs.cmu.edu/~./gdead/setlists/73.html10:49am : .. nor Pharoah. saw Sun Ra though! :-)10:49am : Nice mix bb.. 8-)10:50am : * getting happy*10:50am : Saw the Arkestra, sans Sun Ra. still mindblowing.....10:50am : next lifetime linda lee you'll make a different choice10:50am : Roosevelt Stadium
I took the subway, the PATH train and a bus from Brooklyn to get there.
On the way back, my friend and I were almost hit by the PATH train - we were sitting on the ledge with our legs dangling down and looking the wrong way for the train. I got home at around 6-7 in the morning. My mother was standing at the door when I opened it. Made me wonder how long she was standing there?10:52am : @the illuminated void ~ truly hope i won't have to :-D
forgot all about Roosevelt Stadium! gosh.
@Jeff ~ wow. lucky you on that PATH train. silly wabbits!10:52am : Mother business, Jeff Bro.10:52am : I have a confession to make.10:53am : uh oh :-D10:54am : Confess Buddha!! Confess!!10:54am : Sometimes I like to troll what you guys say on here while eating a small portion of gummy bears as I listen to Brainen's collection of tunes.10:55am : @Buddha, do you need a lawyer?10:55am : great show Bob! love the Ivy League. the other 2 songs by them that really send me are "Funny How Love Can Be" and "That's Why I'm Crying." I always felt there's a strong Tokens influence in their music.10:55am : i'm guessing that's the behavior of many, Buddha. probably minus the gummies.10:55am : Must have got lost @Buddha. Actually had a moment to write feverishly! Looking forward to catching up w/ you!10:56am : thanks for the recommends, Dennis D!10:56am : Wow. Had no idea Bleckmann performed Ives!10:56am : @Buddha that's just lurking, lots of lurkers10:57am : this set is my life today. fantastic. thank you Bob!!10:57am : Blues Mandinga, I think people secretly like to be studied/observed from a distance. I am a garden variety lurker.10:57am : It was a Grammy nominee, and I missed it.10:58am : Hi Hughie! Please email me more of your wonderful writings! Looking forward to it.10:58am : Hello. Sun Ra Arkestra plays today at Union Pool in Brooklyn. A free gig! I'm gonna try to go, but know I may be turned back if it fills up. Never been there; is it big?10:58am : i really don't. this is why there's scotch tape over my laptop cam :-D10:59am : Sounded like somebody had stollen Clay's sound effects10:59am : I need to tape my cam, too, LL, thanks for the reminder10:59am : hey there TDK60! more room in the deep end, for sure. ;-) get there early as you can.11:00am : Linda Lee, so do you think I should keep this new profile pic up? Every time I see my mug on here I get the heebie jeebies.11:00am : We'll miss you Bob! One more next week i hope?11:00am : And now... Bob "The Frogman" Brainen11:00am : folks use opaque, but i like the images you get through scotch tape!11:01am : Time to hop on out already? Have a good week, Bob.11:01am : Buddha ~ i like the new pic. but no one likes the heebie jeebies.11:01am : @Buddha I prefer to be studied from the closeness.11:01am : Bob is this is the last day for a while?
