Favoriting September 15, 2018: Mother Termite Lives in Chicken and Other Tales
Imagine a sequence of unrelated tales translated from the tattooed hieroglyphics on the tongues of a chorus of old salts who, upon emerging from a pub after several days and nights of hard drink, bawdy song, and a barkeep who had threatened them with all manner of violent acts to be perpetrated upon their bodies if they didn’t shut up, had a brief brush with fame when a photographer of some reknown captured a moment where they, staggering at angles so severe, were prisoners of a gravity that you and I will never know. Now, forget that and imagine a warehouse find of a stash of unknown Caedmon LPs: Cary Grant reading Aldous Huxley’s The Doors of Perception, Groucho Marx reading Mark Twain’s The Mysterious Stranger, Dirk Bogarde reading Colin Wilson’s The Outsider, Shel Silverstein reading from Francois Rabelais’ Gargantua and Pantagruel. Now, forget that and imagine 40+ minutes of air time featuring the literary talents of Gaylord Fields, Bronwyn C., Steinski, DJ Stashu, Cheyenne, Scott Williams, and the Inflatable Squirrel Carcass. That’s what you're going to hear if you tune in this evening at midnight.

Hiya, Rich! Termites? lemme tell you about termites...
  12:05am
rich:

good morning all,

here for you to look at: https://www.instagram.com/fergemanden/
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05am
coelacanth∅:

presumably a wooden chicken
  12:07am
grace gold way:

scary im getting goosebumps
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08am
coelacanth∅:

they might be chicken bumps
  12:11am
rich:

rubber chicken bumps
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12am
Franco Twinkie:

As I sit here barely awake, the termites are busy eating the kitchen cabinets and I can't seem to muster the interest to do anything about it.
  12:12am
Plasmobe:

Whoops, transitioned to the next show.. Yes, coelecanth... WKCR..Columbia University. WFDU in NJ was another station that played good stuff back in the day. I was always a 'left of there dial' explorer back then. All the best music was left of 92 on the FM dial, lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15am
coelacanth∅:

i can't polka to this at all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16am
coelacanth∅:

Bronwyn C?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17am
coelacanth∅:

...haha! oops i just saw that you're disclosing the narrators over there!

lultz, coel!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18am
coelacanth∅:

Plasmobe i never learned about wfdu when i was in nj. where was that based?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20am
coelacanth∅:

...oh probably fordham, no?
  12:20am
Plasmobe:

IIRC , Fordham University. I recall they used to, share the signal with I think WNYU (NY University) FDU would come on the air around 10pm till sometime in the morning then NYU would take over again...or something like that
  12:22am
Plasmobe:

I heard bands like 'Crash Course In Science' and Head Cheese ('Jungle Jam") on FDU, lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22am
Franco Twinkie:

You guys have planned to do this for a long time - I can tell! Do you think you can insert a disposable musical interlude so I can go into the termite infested kitchen and smear something on a cracker?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24am
coelacanth∅:

i might've listened to it occasionally without ever knowing the call letters. rsu was another sometimes good one (out of rutgers)
...back then wfmu also stopped transmitting usually at midnight or at 2 am. most of the shows were 4 hours long and i think they had trouble getting 2am-6am people.
  12:24am
rich:

fdu is fairleigh dickinson
  12:25am
Plasmobe:

Oh...and not to mention, "The Devil Lives In My Husband's Body" by Pulsallama, lol
  12:26am
Plasmobe:

Ah yes, Rich, correct!
  12:27am
Plasmobe:

Memory is not stable, lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27am
coelacanth∅:

fairleigh dickenson, in madison i believe. a very beautiful old campus if i remember correctly
  12:29am
Plasmobe:

But noes I think of it...didn't Fordham have a 'good' station?
  12:29am
Plasmobe:

...'now' :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29am
coelacanth∅:

i don't think so. it's wfuv.
  12:30am
grace gold way:

ok now i have chicken bumps... yeah fordham is also a lot more humbler than nyu, if i dare me so bold
  12:30am
Plasmobe:

Wait a sec.... Fordam did the 'mountain stage; country bluegrass thing now that I think of it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30am
coelacanth∅:

(terrible people playing mostly mediocre music)
  12:31am
rich:

memory is what covers the floor of my stable
  12:31am
grace gold way:

b, dare b so bold
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31am
Franco Twinkie:

From this point forward, this is the way I want to enjoy a story. In the morning I'm going to throw all my books into the trash.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32am
coelacanth∅:

that's them. my sister gives them lots of money and they give her tickets to one or the other of those events.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33am
coelacanth∅:

(my sister has unadventurous musical inclinations so fuv is good for her)
  12:33am
grace gold way:

mayb some1 would like your books tho, franco twinkie. dont just trash um.
Avatar 12:34am

Avatar 12:36am
northguineahills:

Franco has the right idea (still not throwing my books in the trash).

@coel: I'm better w/ voices then faces....
  12:36am
Plasmobe:

What I find bizarre is after 25+ years, many of the same people are still on the air, lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36am
Franco Twinkie:

Dean! Are the kids in bed? Let's talk about spicy food!
  12:37am
grace gold way:

i am certain that mr wiggles is a rip off of Uncle Wiggily Longears!!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38am
coelacanth∅:

ngh i'm good with both but not always good with names
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39am
coelacanth∅:

if i'm done with a book and don't find someone who wants it i place it in one of the free lending libraries in town
  12:39am
Dean:

Kinda, sorta in bed. But no spicy food talk. I made a hella good shepherd's pie (albeit with beef, not lamb) tonight. Hella good.
Avatar 12:40am
northguineahills:

heck, I can tell people apart just by hearing footsteps...(I have a photographic memory, but for some reason, since my 20s, It takes a few encounters for someone's face to imprint...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40am
coelacanth∅:

okay i didn't guess Steinski. it's been too long.
Avatar 12:42am
northguineahills:

I could tell it was Steinski just by the beats and samples...

we also have free lending library boxes here, there one on the block behind mine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42am
Franco Twinkie:

Oh man, I love shepherds pie! If you were closer, I would trade you a slice of fig pie straight up!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43am
coelacanth∅:

funny, ngh. i just told someone a few days ago that i knew when it was she coming down the balcony stairs in a local market she works in, without looking
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44am

In Brooklyn, I could tell which of my neighbors were coming up the steps. I obviously could tell when my wife was coming up.

what coel said....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45am

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57am

i could never understand why my older brother liked buttermilk when we were little. when i was 16 though and had to teach myself how to cook i discovered that there's no reason at all to make pancakes if i don't have any buttermilk.
