By the way, I've got lots of '60s/'70s psych in queue for today's show ... for those who swing that way.

That's a better version of the french anthem!
Avatar 12:27pm
Tony Coulter:

I used to sing a snatch of the French national anthem whenever I put down a dish of food for my cats -- have no idea why. Alternately, I would sing a bit of Kurt Schwitters's Ursonate.

TomDash:

Hey Tony - tuning in for the 60s/70s psych on this raining Brooklyn day at the shop! Can't wait for the Canadian Prog Specials coming up too. Love those regional shows for a little deeper education!

Tony Coulter:

Greetings, TomDash! Glad you appreciate the idea of an immersion in Canadianness!
Avatar 12:35pm
Tony Coulter:

It'll be just as much psych as prog -- at least for the Anglo Canadian show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm
TomDash:

Great Tony! Truth be told, I lean a bit more psych in my mindful music immersions!

This set is going especially nicely with the all-out rainy day we're having in northern NJ. (But then again, this show does originate in the PNW, so rain as a backing number is not alien to ya!)

Tony Coulter:

Thank you, Lord Yvang.

@ Listener James: Nothing but (kinda) sunny skies here today!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:53pm
listener james from westwood:

Oh, that's gotta be a rare bit of all right! I lucked out during a trip there one April—almost a solid week of sun and 70°! Was told I scored big time vs. the usual weather.

Dean:

I've been to Portland many times over the years and it has never rained, except for one time. This is because I traditionally went in late July, when it is supremely gorgeous. The one time it rained was during a visit when I met our esteemed DJ at a new record store opening.
  12:57pm
Dean:

Malo, not bad.
Avatar 12:57pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Dean: Ah yes, the opening of Musique Plastique!

Portland is actually *too* sunny during the month of August -- it can get to be like being in the Mojave Desert.

Tony Coulter:

Talking of Musique Plastique (well, I was), they made one of the greatest record store commercials ever: www.youtube.com...
  1:08pm
Dean:

That's a hoot! Best I can offer is a hodge-podge of videos from Down Home Records, which I visit with some frequency: http://www.downhomemusic.com/about-us/videos/

They had a parking lot sale this past Sunday. I picked up odds and ends: three Nonesuch LPs featuring contemporary classical music, all engineered by Marc Aubort, Quicksilver Messenger Service's Happy Trails, a Robert Palmer album...stuff.

This commercial is sure possessed by the spirit of Brainticket!

Tony, I don't know how you know all the way from Oregon, but your show is the perfect soundtrack to this cold, rainy Vermont afternoon.

Wendy! It's sunny out here -- so I'm just being contrarian.
