This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

what is "library music"? have heard it mentioned many times on FMU in the last year or so

Avatar 7:15pm

Hi Dave! just from wiki here:

Production music (also known as stock music or library music) is the name given to recorded music that can be licensed to customers for use in film, television, radio and other media. Oftentimes, the music is produced and owned by production music libraries.
Avatar 7:16pm
Flash Strap:

en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar 7:17pm
northguineahills:

@Dave: Library music is usually music recorded somewhat anonymously by composers and session musicians that can later be used for film, tv, and other media. Hence the titles are descriptive of the 'feel' or 'mood'. Usually not commercially available and only found in second-hand stores.
Avatar 7:17pm
northguineahills:

oh, Flash got it first...
Avatar 7:18pm
Flash Strap:

I'll add to that that I think it's particularly interesting in that it creates a space for wide varieties of experimentation, despite its commercial motivators, and thus is often home to avant garde stuff, both intentional and otherwise
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:19pm
Dave in Vermont:

thanks to both of you- that was helpful

I like the underwater feel, had a terrible day too and it is soothing.
Avatar 7:20pm

even when it's not at its best, library music ofetn makes me think of the music you hear in dreams - sort of anonymous, nondescript, but weirdly compelling, a distorted mirror of musical trends of the day

Now that my infection is abating, I have energy for the first time years (tissue samples suggest I had a low grade sample for years, it just flared up this summer). So, one positive among negatives. I'll take it!

Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:25pm
chresti:

is it free to use library music? Is it public domain?
Avatar 7:26pm
northguineahills:

errr..., low grade infection, it just wasn't very symptomatic, so I didn't notice, but the drs. say it might have created chronic fatigue. Now, if my skin will heal (which it is, just at a glacial pace)>
Avatar 7:26pm
still b/p:

I've got a medium bunch of library music on vinyl sitting in a box here. I think a few years ago I told Uncle Michael he could probably have it. If someone's driving from northern New England through Kansas....let me know.

If I'd written down all the notes, thoughts, assessments and frustrations sparked by the late-day and evening portions I caught of the hearing today...they'd have to send a search dog in to find me buried and slightly crazed in my ceiling-high drifts of scribbles.

I brought folding chairs for all, so we can ride this elevator up, down, sideways, & back again, over and over!
Avatar 7:28pm
northguineahills:

@melinda: It was just a staph infection. Something happened this summer that made it flare up that my arms swelled up and my ankles for a weekend wouldn't fit in my shoes. The inflammation is 85% down, but it caused a knock-on effect that was a very minor psoriasis that soon enveloped 90% of my skin (now down to 60%).

Even recognizing the pressure and anger (real or faux) involved, as I watched BKs evasions and misdirectional redundancies and contentiousness and pugnaciousness, I kept thinking, "That -- THAT? -- is the substantial, deep, adept, practiced, balanced legal mind that's been touted and praised by his promoters?" No doubt he has experience and can write an opinion, but sweet sufferin' Moses, he seemed so intractably determined to be unconstructive and illogical...and so coming across as lacking any reassuring maturity and gravity.

I've long had trouble with the Collins way, and did also with the Snowe way.

they want and need to be re elected. they'll never have better jobs. those jobs depend on the voters.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:00pm

@glenn I've called in the past, and she has been heavily protested, called, with regular office visits from constituents and folks getting arrested outside her office. Yet she complains to a rightwing news org that the crowdfunded campaign to fund her opponent if she votes to confirm was a form of bribery. And she didn't want his papers released. She is giving all the signals that her mind is made up but she doesn't want to own it yet.
