  6:43pm PTNOTR/billyjam:

Welcome to “Rap-tober 2018” and part-one in WFMU’s “Put The Needle On The Record” series on Hip-Hop History when the plan is to attempt to neatly condense 45 long intensive years of hip-hop’s history into four one-hour weekly shows (impossible maybe but amma gonna try it anyways). Each week a different co-host or guest will join me with this week one’s guest/co-host being $mall Change - the longtime DJ / CA transplant who is a NYC club fixture and FMU DJ for 2 decades. That’s today (week one) when we will attempt to condense the first 11 years, 2 months, 3 weeks and five days of Hip-Hop History. Then next week (#2 of 4) my guest will be a special person to be announced. October 19th/week three’s guest/co-host will be DJ ALF when this show will be coming live from Oakland CA. Then the finale/fourth week of Rap-tober/Hip-Hop History on October 26th live from the WFMU Jersey City studios will feature WFMU DJ/Tommy Boy President Monica Lynch as co-host plus a quick mix set from legendary San Francisco turntable ensemble the Bullet Proof Scratch Hamsters. As president of Tommy Boy Records, with whom she began as the label’s first employee in 1981, Monica was instrumental in shaping hip-hop including during its impactful “Golden Era” of the late 80’s and early 90’s so we’ll have a lot to condense into that final week’s show in Rap-tober. Stay tuned and post here in comments A: your earliest hip-hop memory + B: favorite all time hip-hop song

Doug reaired all of Steinski's shows that occurred before the archive kicked in, so you can find the older ones on the Give The Drummer Some stream under Steinski. (well, he did this a few years ago, so they will be mostly labelled as recent ones, and the playlist will have the the original air date.)
