Back in the '70s most Euro art/prog/psych albums sold in the US were "imports" -more expensive, rare, not easily available. You had to know a good rekkid store or someone with the dough to buy those LPs. As I dimly recall.

Question: Does anyone in the Krautrock scene get annoyed with the name?
Avatar 11:12pm
Scraps:

Some people call anything in Germany in the 70s Krautrock. It should be about style, but Rate Your Music, for instance, is all over the place.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12pm
coelacanth∅:

the name "can" - "Malcolm Mooney had originally suggested the name Can due to it having positive meanings in various languages. For example, in Turkish, a language much heard in Germany due to high numbers of Turkish speakers, "can" may mean, depending on the context, "life, soul, heart, spirit, beloved and vitality"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22pm
coelacanth∅:

that's contrary to what others have said...that Jaki was told to try simplifying.
Avatar 11:25pm
Jason Elbogen:

This is very interesting, Daniel. I had no idea about this...

@coel: Can is also a Turkish name, but pronounced "shjon" (nearly jon), as you know.

ngh i've known just a few turkish people and they all have names that seem somewhat more exotic to me. (like Demit, Homdee(sp?), Gulin, and at least 3 others that i should remember but cannot now, that are more elaborate but i can't or wont go to my facadebook account to see their names)

most of the turks i've known were here for college just before ertogan, and they generally claimed that the us was very oppressive compared to turkey. only one comes back still, annually (though, now?) and one lives here.
