I am a regular WFMU listener. Fortunately, I am able to tune into this show and intended on doing so because of the theme. This is my 90s! I was listening to these bands living in the East Village and have seen each of the ones you have played so far. Is the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion on the playlist? They were a major part of my 90s as well. Thank you, for this show, and thank you, Matador Records for signing such great acts in the 90s.

I went to the 1997 edition of Lollapalooza which was almost its last iteration. It was an odd hodgepodge: Tricky, Snoop Dogg, Tool, and the Orb. The only reason I went was because my friend won tickets off of the radio. I think sales were low that summer because the phenomenon was played out.

@leyou: “Sassy” wasn’t exactly a zine. It was a mainstream magazine headed by Jane Pratt. I learned about “Nation of Ulysses” from “Sassy.”

And I learned about “Sassy” by gong to the zine store “See Here!” on East 7th near 2nd Avenue and buying some copies of “Teenage Gang Debs.” I discovered “Beat Happening” and “Bikini Kill” via that zine. And then “Sassy” as well. IT IS A SMALL WORLD!!!
