Ridgewood Radio features concert recordings by adventurous bands and experimental musicians and restored archival tapes from private and institutional collections captured at venues large and small across the five boroughs of New York. enjoying greatly, thanks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm

Thanks, steveo. I think some people will be surprised by the variety of Basinski as illustrated in this show.

@Sem: how was Toulouse? Were the markets full of chanterelles and Reine Claude plums?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm
david w:

Greetings, βrian and please, Sem, do tell us what was happening in Toulouse.

The first time I saw William Basinski, I wasn't impressed. The second time, he blew me away. (nice chatty bloke, both times, nice lad!). I used to dj years ago at the same 'party' Lawrence English used to dj ambient sounds. Never saw him live, unfortunately.

Sem:

@βrian & David: he is a man of some mystery, perhaps Stanley will dish about Toulouse, perhaps not. Enigmatic, you know.

@Stanley: See misdirected query to Sem @3:24.

I understand, ngh (and Sem). Really a cowboy musician from Texas, but everybody thinks he is some mysterious European intellectual.

what part of Ridgewood is this anyway
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm

Existentially or by subway?

northguineahills:

The part of Ridgewood where you can skip to your lou to Bushwick (if you're broadcasting from outpost, or whatever it's called these days).

True! Ridgewood seceded from Brooklyn after the 1977 blackout riots. This spot is the Halsey stop on the cursed L.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm
david w:

Thanks, Michael. There is a lot of good stuff out there for the curious.

I was in Bed-Stuy for the 2003 Blackout. Our neighbors told us to stay inside and not come out until everything was resolved (sort stood out in there back then). But me, being me, went w/ my downstairs neighbor to get beer. There was a block-sized bbq party, and, luckily, no rioting happened. (One of the few times my safety wasn't issue there in those days). It was fun, except having to shower every other hour just to not overheat.

@ngh: I walked that day from Times Sq. to Williamsburg. No subways, but free melty ice cream at shops along the way!
Avatar 4:18pm
βrian:

@ngh: And stars? Could you see stars??
Avatar 4:19pm
northguineahills:

You said Basinski is sold out tomorrow? I would buy my wife a ticket if there were some (to document it for me, I'm rather selfish).

βrian: Yeah, that night we spent most of the night on the roof and it was beautiful. (still better views in humid swampland).

By the way, Sem, I ate fried whole walnut fruits in Toulouse with my pork and mash potatoes.

I saw Richard Chartier do an installation in midtown where he had copper oxide mixture dripping into a pool and the drop would light up on contact w/ the water. There was no light in the gallery, and it was backed by one of his minimalist tracks. It was magical!

Thanks david!

thank you !

Okay - this is probably my favorite discovery of the month. Thank you.
