Hi Cheyenne! I've been squirreling away FMA faves that aren't in your archives already.

Yep, just answering a zillion tweets, FB posts and emails about the FMA today, might as well listen to some good tunes while I'm at it!!

Howdy, hi! I hope a couple of them are from deep-pocketed individuals with checkbooks ready!

@Webhamster Henry - everything will still be available via archive.org/details/freemusicarchive in the coming weeks but if you have things listed as faves, now's the time to nab 'em.

Ken From Hyde Park:

Any word on future live sets recorded at WFMU? It was always to reassuring to hear that they'd be available on the FMA. I guess there's the playlist archive from the DJ's show.
Avatar 3:25pm
Cheyenne:

The live sessions, like everything else, will be at archive.org (and some already are, btw). Going forward, I don't think they'll be added to a downloadable repository.

I'm riding virtually through Switzerland, listening to Turkish music. I really want a qanun.

Devastating news about the FMA. Speaking of Switzerland, will the EPFL dataset remain available?

Heya David and DrumSum people. Did you mention the locale of the picture?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm
David D:

Thanks for asking, Carmichael. That is a nearby part of Leipzig that I have only recently discovered myself up close. Sort of an in-between area.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm
kuba:

former train tracks behind bayrischer bahnhof?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm

Kuba, very close, near the train tracks, I believe where barracks used to be.

kuba:

@coel, me too, that's why i don't hold back on super specific and esp. weird place names!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm
coelacanth∅:

...i was thinking it looks like it once connected things significant to each-other and now (at least if it were in the us) it's just waiting to be profitable, er i mean "developed".

Carmichael:

Speaking of voting, my county is a beta site for Early Voting/Vote by Mail. I turned in my ballot yesterday, so no long lines/voter suppression BS.
  5:30pm
melinda:

@coel I know what you mean. I'm picturing train tracks and barracks in a city I've never been too.
  5:31pm
melinda:

To, not too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm
coelacanth∅:

100% what?
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:35pm
Michael 98145:

@Carm, up here in the upper left, voting is by postage-paid mail or a drop box. why can't that be national?
Avatar 5:38pm
Carmichael:

Agreed, Michael. The Secretary of State runs that stuff for each state. Look at Georgia: The SecState is running for governor, so he's actually controlling his own election. The tales of voter rights suppression there are astonishing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm
Webhamster Henry:

This is plenty swing-y!
Avatar 5:41pm
Carmichael:

David, I was just watching my Bireli Legrene concert video last night. Great Gypsy jazz!
  5:42pm
melinda:

@Michael I heard about that and hope other states follow. We have paper ballots here but they don't mail them to you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm
David D:

I believe there may be vague ideas about developing the area in the picture. On the other hand, those things tend to take a very long time here, with ownership rights often unclear in the area.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm
David D:

Carmichael: Yes, another manouche great!
  5:51pm
Mark R:

That picture could just as easily be Jersey City or Detroit. This Les Colocs track has really turned into something great, hasn't it. Started slowly and the momentum picked up, and now it's just like a great big locomotive, steaming down the tracks (you know, the tracks that used to be in your picture.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm
David D:

Mark: Yes, they picked up a head of steam there. And you're right, many post-industrial landscapes are similar across the world.

Yeah I know, Coel...(shudder). The results of tonight's elections will let us know if we're heading that way ourselves.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:01pm

Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 6:01pm
Michael 98145:

great set. thanks again.
  6:01pm
Mark R:

I agree, dr., and the Rasgueo track, too. Beautiful stuff. It's interesting to notice the vague connections between European gypsy jazz and Appalachian mountain music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04pm
doctorjazz:

True dat, Mark R, I would have guessed am American country/folk unit...
  6:09pm
Mark R:

In another life, I might have liked being a cultural anthropologist, traveling the world, meeting people and studying their art, their music, their food...the musical connections aren't as unlikely as they would seem when you consider the countries of origin of those settlers in the Appalachians, for example.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm
doctorjazz:

Bunny Berrigan, over of those beautiful, golden trumpet tones.
  6:11pm
Mark R:

I've intentionally stayed away from any news today. We really won't know anything until the polls close (8 pm in the Eastern Time Zone), and a lot of tight races are out West, so it may very well be tomorrow morning before we know anything. One thing that worries me is if Trump loses, like really gets hammered, will he question the legitimacy of the voting?

It is right off the railroad corridor, now connected via a tunnel and busier than ever.
