Does the minestrone come with some bread?
Avatar 9:08pm Franco Twinkie:

I wish we had some Minestrone, then we wouldn't have to go out and do the hunter-gatherer thing right now. I really just want to stay in and rock out with you,Sam.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09pm Sam Segal:

Depends on your political ideology, @SBP.
Don't hunt, don't gather, rock and roll, @Franco!

Heya, Melinda. So glad you are here!
  9:20pm Carmichael:

I’m on the iPhone app, so I can’t see who’s logged in and who’s not. Melinda, are you the logged in Melinda or the other one? You’re both fine with me, btw.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23pm Sam Segal:

There are two Melindas?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24pm melinda:

I'm currently logged in Carm.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26pm melinda:

There's another one who goes by Miss Melinda but I haven't seen her around much.

Great dog walking music! Hoo-whee!
Avatar 10:08pm TDK60:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09pm Sam Segal:

Howdy Jeff and Jeff's Dog! This song's all about the whooshing, slightly dated synths for me.
10:11pm Jeff g., walking the dog:

...and now it's raining :(
  10:12pm Carmichael:

These folks are truly funky!
10:12pm Jeff g., walking the dog:

There's an ECM AEOC box set out soon? now? that is absolutely ridiculous.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm Sam Segal:

Yeah, it's like 21 CDs or something insane. I think it's only like $95, which isn't outrageous when you think of the size...think it comes with a huge book too.
Avatar 10:18pm Franco Twinkie:

Okay, back from dinner. I love Lester Bowie! Perfect.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19pm Sam Segal:

Me too, Franco. All the Brass Fantasy records are such a blast.

Hello Sam n horseyland!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27pm Sam Segal:

All the stars are here! Hello, Chresti!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35pm Scraps:

My favorite Lester Bowie is =Fast Last!=, though that’s compounded by the first one I ever bought by Bowie. Still, Joseph Bowie, Julius Hemphill, Bob Stewart, John Hicks... oh, John Stubblefield.... etc
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39pm Scraps:

Muse put it out again by a different name in the eighties. Called — wait for it — =Hello Dolly=
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41pm Michael 98145:

nice set ... ♫
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42pm Sam Segal:

Cheers, Michael! Thanks so much.
10:42pm Jeff g., walking the dog:

Oh man. Thanks for playing this one, Sam. Got my eye on it....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46pm Scraps:

And then Camden did a CD of Fast Last! (aka Hello Dolly) as as two-CD set, also with =Bugle Boy Bop= and =Rope-a-Dope=; a good set
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48pm Michael 98145:

low energy is okay. the year is tired.

Avatar 10:51pm Franco Twinkie:

Sam, I suggest a big steaming bowl of Pho Ga(chicken) That's what we had, 'cause Chresti is feeling like she's tipping into a cold.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52pm Michael 98145:

i gotta give love to all our friends in California. cripes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52pm Sam Segal:

Oh man, I have a great Vietnamese spot near me, not a bad idea, Franco!
Avatar 10:53pm Franco Twinkie:

Coel, Yes. I heard a blended melody at the beginning that went someplace else, never to return.
  10:53pm chresti:

Very enjoying set! Twitter suspended my account I have to join again it told me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm Sam Segal:

For real, @Michael. It all grows more apocalyptic by the day.
  10:55pm chresti:

I’m pretty low flow as well
Avatar 10:55pm coelacanth∅:

Franco i'm intrigued!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55pm Sam Segal:

Twitter suspensions are outrageous and I don't blame anyone for avoiding the whole damn website for the way they treat their users.
Avatar 10:56pm Franco Twinkie:

Thanks Michael. We're feeling a little raw around the edges out here. Music keeps us sane.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56pm Michael 98145:

i love this passionate jazz -- which annoys some in my vicinity. :)
Avatar 10:57pm TDK60:

a "what-NEXT?!" kind of year; I am tired.
  10:57pm chresti:

It does sound like a baby animal crying for his mom at the beginning
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57pm Michael 98145:

what TDK60 just said

  10:58pm Dean:

One of the top three concerts ever: Brotzmann with Pliancas and Wertmuller in Berkeley at the now defunct Jazz House.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm Sam Segal:

Seeing Brotzmann, William Parker, and Hamid Drake at Roulette was an all-timer for me, Dean.
  11:00pm chresti:

I heard if 6 was 9 when Franco said darkness darkness
  11:02pm chresti:

I haven’t yet embraced twitter to their liking, I gather
  11:02pm Dean:

I heard that or a similar gig at Vision Festival years ago. Had a beer with Brotzmann. Stood at the adjacent urinal to Parker. I mean, what more can one ask for?
  11:02pm chresti:

Love this one -
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03pm Sam Segal:

Dean, I think we were at the same gig. The one I saw was part of the Vision Festival.
  11:05pm Dean:

I doubt it, because I haven't made it to Roulette. The one I saw was in the basement of a church.
Avatar 11:07pm coelacanth∅:

i'm woefully lacking in the outjazz live show experience. (as well as my Lester Bowie familiarity, apparently)
Avatar 11:08pm Franco Twinkie:

Dean, Stan told me he stood next to Ry(Wry)Cooder at a urinal and blurted out 'I've always admired you!' and without missing a beat Ry responded 'Exactly what is about me that you admire?' Rimshot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08pm Michael 98145:

here on the left coast, jazz has to be sought.
  11:09pm chresti:

TDK60@10:57- it’s exhausting
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10pm Scraps:

I missed Marion Brown & Dave Burrell, shoot.
  11:12pm Dean:

Sounds like Ry Cooder is just a wee bit narcissistic, no?

As I recall, William Parker said, "Hi," when I acknowledged him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12pm melinda:

The public nature of Twitter scares me. I think I joined but haven't confirmed my account or posted anything. I'm on facebook with the other fogeys.
Avatar 11:12pm TDK60:

yeah chresti and Michael; but I ain't giving in; just for now hitting the horizontal plane for a snooze. // DJ Sam your music tonight has really helped..
  11:13pm Dean:

(I loved Cooder's music, in any event. Would like to think he were more polite.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15pm Michael 98145:

nite, @TDK60

I met many friends on bulletin boards years ago, but the social media world doesn't work for me. #sad
Avatar 11:15pm coelacanth∅:

i've seen some "unknown" ensembles which included some fairly well-known "sidemen", right in town in a little club - which is my preferred way.
i was checking to see if David Ware was playing out in this country when i found out he'd died.. ...which really sucked because i knew him, but we hadn't communicated in a few years and i'd hoped to surprise him by showing up at a gig.
  11:15pm Dean:

Re: Twitter, etc., let me urge everybody to listen to the latest episode of Harry Shearer's Le Show, in which he interviews Bruce Schneier. It is a rare and smart discussion of online security. Schneier not only knows his stuff, but he can describe and explain it.
Avatar 11:16pm Franco Twinkie:

Narcisssistic? How'bout fast on the draw.
Avatar 11:16pm coelacanth∅:

'sounds to me that Ry Cooder just had a healthy sense of humor.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16pm Michael 98145:

love this show ... always love this station.
  11:17pm Dean:

Maybe. Asking, even ironically, about one's interlocutor's admiration of oneself runs a risk.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18pm Sam Segal:

Mighty nice of you to say, Michael.
Avatar 11:19pm Franco Twinkie:

My take on Ry is he's just a funny guy. Wiener jokes never get old.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm doctorjazz:

Looks like this show was right up my alley, have to catch up in the archives.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm Scraps:

If a random person strikes up a conversation at a urinal, that’s already gone past politeness, in my opinion. I thought he handled it fine: with humor.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm doctorjazz:

Big Ru fan, don't rain on my parade...
  11:20pm Dean:

Aha! I hadn't considered the phallic inflection! Yeah, if he was making a dick joke, well, hell, he's family!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21pm doctorjazz:

...Ry, that is, never mind.
  11:22pm Dean:

(Though I do believe he is famously difficult.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23pm melinda:

Thanks for the tip, Dean.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24pm melinda:

Ry Cooder is a funny name.
Avatar 11:24pm coelacanth∅:

haha -good point,Scraps. i don't like when ANYBODY talks to me when i'm peeing...at least not guys!
  11:24pm Dean:

You're welcome, melinda. It's really good.
Avatar 11:25pm Franco Twinkie:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25pm melinda:

I always thought it must be weird to pee next to strangers with no partition for privacy.
  11:26pm Dean:

Just occurs to me that I know a guy named Ry, yet I never once considered that he shares the name with Cooder. I'm not the most alert guy on the planet, that's for sure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26pm Sam Segal:

Heya, Doctor Jazz! Thanks for dropping by!
Avatar 11:26pm coelacanth∅:

i never considered doing the twit thing. 'just never saw a reason why.
Avatar 11:28pm Franco Twinkie:

Melinda, men's room Port Authority Bus Depot. Discomfort central.
Avatar 11:28pm coelacanth∅:

melinda it is a little weird, because one never knows if the person next over is weird until he is!
  11:29pm chresti:

Glitchy Marxist dub
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29pm melinda:

@Franco sounds like a creepfest.
Avatar 11:30pm Franco Twinkie:

So you've heard.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30pm melinda:

I think Twitter is necessary for promoting a lot of things.
Avatar 11:30pm still b/p:

Stream of side-by-side bathroom badinage coulda gone on -- "Well, you produce some amazing stuff. Um, I mean...I love what you do with your instrument. Um, I mean...""
  11:31pm Dean:

I have long believed the norm should be unisex bathrooms. I've never quite understood why we divide ourselves, though I understand the risk of harassment and violence. But I think that risk is a function of segregation. If we'd never separated ourselves, we wouldn't be in this situation.
Avatar 11:32pm Franco Twinkie:

This topic is going to get some mileage I can see.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm Ike:

Groovy sounds.
Avatar 11:33pm coelacanth∅:

i was once at a urinal in a bus terminal or some such and i saw periferally (sp) the guy next to me checking me out - intently! i decided i'd turn and piss on his legs but at that moment he backed off.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33pm Sam Segal:

Thanks, Ike!
I'm with Dean on the gender-neutral bathrooms.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34pm Michael 98145:

exactly! private cabinets, shared wash room. just like our European friends.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35pm melinda:

My junior high had no doors on most bathroom stalls. Not kind to young adolescents.
A local art center went unisex bathroom several years ago but I never encountered men in the restroom formerly known as the women's room. But I haven't been there in a while.
Avatar 11:37pm coelacanth∅:

i was at a club in nyc when the bathrooms were out of order and we were directed through a maze of stairway and halls ,through a (closed) restaurant downstairs to a bathroom. i was at a urinal and someone was in the stall. then she came out! we both had a good laugh! neither of us knew it was for both sexes.
Avatar 11:38pm still b/p:

By now, I'm surprised the ridiculous women's line length vs. men's line length disparity hasn't given us a big practical push to greater prevalence of unisex rest rooms.
Avatar 11:42pm coelacanth∅:

sb/p good point. many times i've guarded the mens' room while a lady used it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43pm Scraps:

Many years ago I went to a professional science fiction party, and I got introduced to Tom Disch (Thomas M. Disch). I said I admired his work (which was very true). Disch said he wanted to know what I thought was the worst thing about his wtiting. I was surprised, but I thought about it and answered it seriously. We then had a very cordial conversation about his faults.
Avatar 11:43pm Franco Twinkie:

A friend of mine was in Soho and she really needed to pee. She went into a chinese restaurant and asked to use the bathroom. They rudley refused her, so she went into the kitchen, pulled down her pants and peed on the floor.
  11:45pm chresti:

Stillb/p@10:30 haha!
Avatar 11:45pm coelacanth∅:

Scraps that's cool. i guess not everyone's afraid of reality.
- anyway i'm sure you helped him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46pm Sam Segal:

Franco, that's my favorite bathroom story all night, hands down.
Avatar 11:47pm coelacanth∅:

yes, sb/p, the "stream" could've continued.
Avatar 11:48pm coelacanth∅:

actually i think she's lucky she didn't get scalding oil thrown at her.
  11:48pm chresti:

Melinda@8:35-that’s like Juvenal hall
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49pm Scraps:

I think he was very sure of himself, at least as a writer. Also, an editor friend pointed out later that Disch was gay, and I was 22 and cute.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50pm Scraps:

coel: just what I thought, too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm Scraps:

(the oil, I mean)
Avatar 11:51pm coelacanth∅:

i was self-conscious enough that throughout the entirety of grade school, or at least from K through 9th, i never once pooped at school.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53pm doctorjazz:

This Fair Annie is just lovely!
Thanks, Sam, night all!
Avatar 11:54pm coelacanth∅:

...and i purposely didn't pee during lunch break so that i could go use the bathroom during class, when the chances of someone else being in there were slim.
Avatar 11:54pm Franco Twinkie:

Well. I heard all about it from two other people who were there. She apparently finished the job, then ran like hell.
Avatar 11:55pm coelacanth∅:

gnight dr j
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55pm Michael 98145:

hey, thank you, Sam S !~
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56pm doctorjazz:

This has been a Pee-utiful conversation, y'all.
Avatar 11:57pm Franco Twinkie:

Thank you Sam. Goodnight everybody.
Avatar 11:58pm coelacanth∅:

Franco i have a friend who decided she could pee right on the sidewalk with lots of people around if she squatted with her back to a wall with her dress covering her and me squatting next to her just talking casually... until there was a stream of liquid flowing away from us! it was hilarious!
  11:58pm Dean:

I sympathize with your shyness, coelacanth∅. We are weird about bodies.
Avatar 12:00am coelacanth∅:

Thanks Dean. i'm not so anymore. i think my punk days gave me an "i don't give a shit what others think" attitude about that!
  12:01am Dean:

"give a shit..." Heh! So to speak!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01am Michael 98145:

when did any club back in the day worry about toilet issues?

Avatar 12:01am coelacanth∅:

Thanks Sam! Brilliant program!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02am Scraps:
